WHEN TO REGISTER

REGISTRATION BEGINS

March 12, 2025, 8:30 am.

WHAT DOES "RESIDENT' MEAN?

Resident means you live within the Wheeling Park District boundaries. In addition, all children enrolled as students in School Districts 21 and 23 are granted resident rates on qualifying non-contractual youth programs.

If you have never used our registration system and want to qualify for resident fees, please stop by the Guest Service Desk at the CRC and show proof of residency status. Valid drivers license, utility bill, copy of lease or mortgage agreement are acceptable forms of proof.

Non-resident guests are always welcome to take part in programs and activities.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Periodically, photos and video of Park District programs and activities, classes or events, and properties are used by WPD for marketing materials including electronic, print, video and audio channels and online. By registering for a class or attending or participating in an activity, or using WPD property, you authorize use of your image or your child’s for Park District purposes without prior notice or permission and without compensation. The Park District is not responsible for images shared by others through social media or other channels.

The Wheeling Park District Preschool is guided by the philosophy of “learning through play”. Through activities like art, games, storytelling, cooking, movement and songs, children develop self-control, physical coordination and social skills. Children are exposed to letters, numbers, colors, shapes and readiness skills in an encouraging and nurturing setting. The Wheeling Park District Preschool provides a secure and supportive environment for developing a love for school. A detailed Preschool Parent Handbook is available at Parent Orientation. REGISTRATION INFORMATION & CRITERIA

OUR STAFF

The Wheeling Park District Preschool staff are qualified, experienced teachers who pride themselves on creating a warm, sensitive, safe and educational environment. A ratio of one experienced teacher for every eight children is maintained. Teachers keep up-to-date on the latest standards and trends and are always bringing new ideas to their daily classroom activities.

All children registering for the 2025-2026 Preschool programs must meet the age requirement for the class. A complete registration form with class choice(s), up-to-date medical forms and a copy of your child’s birth certificate must be on file prior to the first day of attendance.

Preschool is set up in 9 equal payments with the first installment collected at the time of registration which is non-refundable/non-transferable. The remaining eight (8) payments will be automatically deducted on: August 10, September 10, October 10, November 10, December 10, January 10, February 10, and March 10.

PRESCHOOL PREP

Must be 2.5 before September 1, 2025

Social learning goes hand in hand with language development, a key task for our busy 2s. We enrich the day with songs, rhymes, stories, activity time, and art projects. This is a great way for children to learn how to be away from their parents and how to play with others. Learning is natural and easy with lots of choices and opportunities to explore. A parent or care-giver will be asked to attend the first class only. Students will be given priority registration into our 2026-2027 Preschool Program. Toilet training is required or a parent or care-giver must be available on-site to change the child's diaper.

Must be three before September 1, 2025

The three-year-old program is designed for a child ready to flourish in a school setting. Our program stresses socialization, cooperative play, fine motor skills, sharing, and following directions. Choose from a two day per week or three day per week class option. In this positive, nurturing environment, children are introduced to colors, letters, and numbers, all of which help to encourage a love of learning in education. Toilet training is required or a parent or care-giver must be available on-site to change the child's diaper.

FOURS & FIVES

Must be four before September 1, 2025

The four-year-old curriculum develops skills needed for entering Kindergarten in area school districts. Our program stresses the development of independence and cognitive skills through learning centers, structured activities, socialization, cooperative and dramatic play, and sharing. In this final step before kindergarten, make sure your eager learner is as prepared as possible! Toilet training is required or a member of the family must be available on-site to change the child's diaper.

PARENT TOT CLASSES

TINY GARDENERS

In this class, children will decorate a flower pot and plant a flower. An adult must remain in the room and participate during class with their child. One adult per child.

EARLY CHILDHOOD

ROCKET SHIP ROAD TRIP!

In this class, children will journey through the cosmos on an intergalactic adventure, exploring different planets and expressing their creativity through art. Please pack a peanut-free lunch and a water bottle. This is a drop-off program, and participants must be able to use the bathroom independently.

NATURE NURTURERS

Children will discover the wonders of nature in this hands-on, nature-based class designed for surious preschoolers! Through outdoor exploration, your child will engage in play-based activities that fosters creativity, problem-solving and a love for the outdoors. This is a dropoff program, and participants must be able to use the bathroom independently.

BUGS! BUGS! BUGS!

Discover the fascinating world of bugs and insects—where they live, how they move, and more—while creating fun, bug-inspired crafts! Please pack a peanut free lunch and a water bottle. This is a drop-off program, and participants must be able to use the bathroom independently.

SPRING INTO SUMMER PRESCHOOL ENRICHMENT

In each class, children will participate in circle time, read a story, free play, and a special themed project! Preschool staff will be leading this program. Please pack a peanut-free lunch and a water bottle. This is a drop-off program, and participants must be able to use the bathroom independently.

PRESCHOOL PROM

Join us for a special preschool prom with music, dancing, crafts, bounce house, and photobooth. Sweet treats and juice boxes for the little ones will be available. Pre-registration required for participants. Adults are free, two adults per child maximum. Dressing up is encouraged, but not required.

FLASHLIGHT EGG HUNT

Bring your flashlight to find candy- and toy-filled eggs. Please bring a basket to collect your eggs. This night will also include games and bingo. Pizza will be provided. This is a drop-off program.

PRESCHOOL PLAYGROUND EGG HUNT

Come out to the preschool playground for fun and games. Bring your camera for a photo with the bunny before the hunt for toy-filled eggs begins. Please bring a basket to collect your eggs. Register early as spaces are limited.

Location: CRC Preschool Playground | Each child will be permitted one adult to join them.

EARTH DAY

Celebrate Earth Day with the whole family! Take a nature walk and learn about all the beautiful wildlife Wheeling has to offer. Exhibitors will be on hand to present information on the environment and answer all your questions about how to make our planet a better place.
