NEW RELEASE AT THE GALLERIA SABAUDA
EXHIBITION In the Galleria Sabauda at the Musei Reali, around 500 works by Piedmontese, Italian, Dutch, Flemish and European artists from the 14th to the 20th century are currently on display on four viewing levels. The new itinerary on the second floor, ordered by historical periods, includes works from the 18th century hitherto kept in storage and more than 120 works from the Gualino Collection. Entrepreneur, collector and patron of the arts, Riccardo Gualino was one of the great protagonists of 20th-century Italian history: his collection includes ancient and modern sculptures, paintings, goldsmiths and furniture, bronzes and ivories dating from antiquity to the 19th century and from Europe and the East. An itinerary, subdivided along seven rooms, proposes immersive environments, with contemporary colours: a look to the East; the taste of the Primitives; paintings, gold and ivories; the museum house; the Renaissance and beyond; the taste for antiquity; the portrait gallery. HOMAGE TO FRANCESCO ROSI AND HIS CINEMA OF TRUTH
EXHIBITION The Museo Nazionale del Cinema celebrates the 100th anniversary of Francesco Rosi’s birth (1922-2015) with an exhibition dedicated to the great master of Italian cinema. As a director and screenwriter, he was capable of combining cinematic art with civil commitment and profoundly influenced Italian and international cinema. This is a multimedia journey that uses new technologies to stimulate the interest of the younger generations in important and still topical issues. Each section is represented by set photos, posters, statements by the author and original materials from the Museum archive, and is introduced by videos made by exceptional testimonials, able to recount the themes addressed by Rosi from a contemporary perspective. The homage is set up on the reception floor of the Mole Antonelliana and admission is free.

GALLERIE D'ITALIA-TORINO AT THE HEART OF PHOTOGRAPHY
NEW EXHIBITION SITE Sanpaolo has inaugurated this year the Gallerie d'Italia-Torino, the Group’s fourth museum (after Milan, Naples, and Vicenza): ten thousand square metres of exhibition space on five floors, three of which underground, dedicated to photography and Baroque art in Piazza San Carlo in Palazzo Turinetti. The museum is home to the Intesa Sanpaolo Publifoto Archive – with about 7 million shots taken from the 1930s to the 1990s by one of Italy’s leading photojournalism agencies - and the pictorial cycle of the ancient Oratory of the Compagnia di San Paolo. Two exhibitions are on show: 'Lisetta Carmi. Suonare forte', the first major monographic exhibition dedicated to one of the most interesting personalities on the Italian photographic scene who recently passed away at the age of 98. The large exhibition 'Gregory Crewdson. Eveningside' is dedicated to the internationally renowned American photographer and master of staged photography. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the world premiere of the new series of photographs with the same title 'Eveningside', the final act of a trilogy spanning ten years of work.

REGGIA DI VENARIA REALE UNTIL 5 FEBRUARY
FIRST TIME IN PIEDMONT
THE ROMANTIC LANDSCAPES OF CONSTABLE
EXHIBITION The Reggia di Venaria continues the investigation begun in 2021 on the theme of landscape, widening its view to the European sphere and proposing for the first time in Italy an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to the famous English artist John Constable (1776-1837). The greatest exponent of English Romantic painting is the protagonist of the exhibition that chronologically retraces his entire artistic career through the works of the Tate, UK. The exhibition consists of around sixty works, ranging from sketches and small paintings executed en plein air, in an early Impressionist manner, to the most important and extensive Romantic landscapes. Constable depicts a cosy, reassuring nature in which one can relax, fall asleep serenely, concentrating on painting places closely associated with his life and family circumstances. The exhibition also includes works by artists contemporary with Constable, and in some cases, competitors, such as Turner, John Linnell, Benjamin West and others whose work intertwines and compares with Constable’s. These are just some of the extraordinary shots in Focus on Future. an unprecedented journey dedicated to the situations of fragility on our planet, tackling that are essential for the wellbeing, survival and progress of humanity such as the defeat of hunger and poverty, equal access to justice, the right to health, education and decent work, the achievement of gender equality, and actions to combat climate change. The show is enriched this year by three new works: “Io, sono nato qui” by Renato Leotta (roof of the Sant’Anna Obstetrical and Gynaecological Hospital), “AzzurroGiallo” by Giorgio Griffa (Giardini di Piazza Cavour) and “...?” by Grazia Toderi (Piazza della Repubblica on the dome of the Basilica Mauriziana).

A MODERN TRIBUTE TO THE BAROQUE
INSTALLATION The light sculpture “Assembly” by artist Marinella Senatore is on display until 8 January 2023 in Piazza dell’Annunziata in Venaria Reale. Inspired by the traditional illuminated architectural structures that were used in openair public celebrations in Southern Italy from the 15th century onwards, this work evokes Baroque festivities, which changed the appearance of royal residences thanks to ephemeral apparatuses. In the Anticamera dei Valletti on the Piano nobile of the Reggia, six smaller site-specific light sculptures will be presented until 5 February 2023. Light, electric and optical, material and metaphorical, becomes a means of narration and poetic creation by the Italian artist, as well as of resistance and cohesion. “Assembly” by Marinella Senatore Reggia di Venaria Reale. JOURNEY THROUGH THE 19TH CENTURY
EXHIBITION The museum’s 19th century collection, which has not been on public view for almost four years, is once again on display with seventyone works including paintings, pastels, large charcoal drawings, marble sculptures, delicate plaster casts and waxes. The itinerary compares the noble tradition of figure painting with the novelty of landscape research, through 8 thematic sections that accompany the visitor along the exhibition route. The theme of the woman as subject constitutes a significant track for visiting the exhibition: from being a literary subject of the Romantic era, the female figure becomes in the course of the century the focus of images that are increasingly adherent to contemporary reality. THE FIRST QUEEN OF A UNITED ITALY, QUEEN AND INFLUENCER
EXHIBITION Margaret of Savoy (1851-1926) was the first queen of united Italy. From her marriage to Prince Umberto, she won the hearts of Italians and helped build the nation’s sense of identity around the Savoy crown. The exhibition illustrates the Italy’s tumultuous transition from the 19th to the 20th century through the trajectory of this figure who became a female icon of the House of Savoy, Queen from 1878 to 1900: glamorous in her rich and excessive toilettes, maternal in her interest in the needs of the people and in supporting their education, forerunner of a new lifestyle that related to nature and the mountains. WAVY LINES AT THE ROYAL RESIDENCE
SCULPTURE British artist Tony Cragg is exhibiting ten sculptures made between 1997 and 2021 at Venaria Reale. These works relate to the genius loci of the Reggia in a sort of post-modern redefinition of the Baroque and Rococo styles. The sculptures are set within the permanent exhibition itinerary of the Reggia, starting from the Court of Honour, continuing in the High Park of the Gardens, and ending in the inner hall at the head of the Scuderie Juvarriane. Large-scale works, moulded using a variety of materials - from bronze to wood, fibreglass to steel - all characterised by the typical wavy and sinuous lines that seem to have been modelled on a giant potter’s wheel.
