Color Observation and Texture Comparison
Fall 2008 Soroka / Hashas
In the begining exercises I approached the assignments with the intention of drawing by seeing, instead of drawing from what I thought that I already knew. These drawings are explorations on how colors change over the coarse of the day and how different media allow for different advantages in showing different attributes of an object.
In this assignment, my goal was to explore the properties of different media and the laws of perspective vto see how I could play with these rules to trick the eye as it moves across the drawing. To create objects that look one way from one direction, and then different from another.

My intent in this project was to explore an inorganic form through varied methods of using a material to highlight different qualities of the material. After initial texture analysis, I moved forward exploring the qualities of a metal hexagonal section of an air conditioning unit on campus.

Small Space Development - Dorm Room Redesign
Fall 2008 Soroka / Hashhas
For redesigning a small space besed on out explorations of humans in space, I chose to develop a space I know all too well, the dorm room. My design intent was to create a custom space that better accomodates the flow of activities to better use the limited space.

Critical Lens Devices In this project, my goal was to create devices that engaged a user and caused them to experience a certain situation in my studio area.
Spring 2009 Voroneanu
This first device is meant to cause the user to pull it down from the ceiling to look through, puting them in a sort of voyeuristic view of the activities going on in my area.
This second device encourages the passerby to come in for a more deliberate and warranted over the shoulder type view that someone would have who was intentionally engaged with me.
Critical Lens Devices
Spring 2009 Voroneanu
The final device strived to create a first hand experience of my space. It consisted of an ipod mounted to the arm of the chair attached to a pair of speakers on the back of the chair. When the user sat in the chair and pushed the button isolated on the ipod, the speakers played a recording of sounds panning from side to side from that pathway that mimmicked how that space becomes engaged at different points in the day.

Critical Lens Device Advancement
Pushing the idea of my third device further, I attempted to try to transform how the created pathway behind my desk is activated. Instead of noise being created by unwanted passerbys, I attempted to create a device to engage them where I would have control over the sounds they made by enticing them to plucking a string installation of both fishing line and guitar strings mounted from the ceiling.
Critical Lens Devices Final Installation
Spring 2009 Voroneanu
To advance on my previous installation, I created a device where user could either intentionally engage with the the bottom strings, or where they may intentionally or accidentally trigger skewers that woul d reverberate agains metal strings mounted vertically abehind a free form mesh
Little Five Points Radio Station Schematic
Spring 2009 Voroneanu
The intent of this project was to create a design for a radio station in little 5 points, in Atlanta that is known for the variety of voices it allows to be heard without discrimination. We began by creating site collaged that were arranged according to each parts characteristics as ground, mediator, or pattern.
After distilling the 3 collages into outlines, we aligned them about the x, y, and z axis. From this point, we extrude each outline based on a set of guidlines for mediators, patterns, and ground in each queadrant. We then translated theses forms into models to help inform our design

Final Radio Station Schematic Design
I let my previous studies inform me with ideas of how I might layer the space, and then I used the language of teh graffiti wall mural, that seemed to fully embody the feel of the site, to help generate a language for my building
I used the area of the graffiti with an emanating explosion to create an covered area conducive to impromtu instrument jamming, like is commonly seen in the area, or just an area to relax and experience the mural from a different perspective.
Spring 2009 Voroneanu
The building follows the form of the graffiti and culminates with a roof top deck in the shape of a hand embracing the earth on the mural.

Downtown Marietta House Design Schematic Design
Fall 2009 Cole
My goal for this project was to design a restaurant for my friend Nick and Selina in downtown Marietta that would accomodate their needs as music lovers, and as a student and professional musician.
Design Development
Fall 2009 Cole
Since my clients were a musician and music lover, I used both the literal and metaphoric qualities of music and instruments to drive my design process. This informed everything from rhythms and patterns to textures and materiality.

Castleberry Hill Restaurant Schematic Design Project Prompt: Design a restaurant in the historic Castleberry Hill region of Atlanta. The choices of site are both infills between two buildings. The site will need to accomodate two separate restaurants, one from each member of the two partner team, and a shared food bank.

Analysis: When studying the site, the history became a major focal point for me. In the 1800’s, Castleberry Hill was known as Atlanta’s red light district and “The Snake Nation” because of its many snake oil salesman and con artists. I took the idea of the red light district and broke it down into the ideas that defined it. compartmentalized, private, and a space for small group interaction. Then I looked analyzed the idea of snake oil salesman and defined that type of space as open, public, and a space for large group interaction focus upon a single datum.

As I further investigated the idea of the snake oil salesman being the central datum, or focal point, when he is trying to peddle goods, I realized that these characteristics directly coincided with what the bar in the program could be. One the bar was decided as this central datum, I began to experiment with shelving and how it could become a focal point, display bottles in an everchanging manner as they are passed, creating a privacy barrier that allows limited views through it, and also as a sort of overhanging awning type structure that offers some sense of enclosure in the vertical sense.
