Dr. Kristine Jarrell
Native to Oak Harbor, Weak Sheep (Marielle Rypstra with her brother, Nehemiah Renner) creates sounds with a mix of indie folk and indie rock flavor, with original lyrics and music written by Marielle.
Voted Whidbey Island’s most trusted
The duo grew up in a home that fostered the love and opportunity to play music (including their older brother’s raucous punk band SOAPBOX, which played every day after school in the family home). Weak Sheep is an independent, Christian band that aims to remain honest and raw with both the music and lyrics.

Simple Minded Symphony is a local Seattle band that sounds like if Chicago played ska for a little bit, but then Patrick Stump came and wrote Fall Out Boy songs with a horn section. SMS brings a freshly-squeezed sound to delight a variety of audiences.

BROKEN BANJO Broken Banjo could be described as a folk/ Americana vocal group, but this doesn’t begin to describe the range of what this exciting trio delivers. In the span of a few songs, they can move from a soulful ballad to a jazz standard to classic blues. With Larry Mason on rhythm guitar, Kevin Johnson on lead guitar, and Deirdre Fairfax on lead vocals, guitar, harp, and penny whistle, these three creatively collaborate from their own perspectives and strengths to put a Broken Banjo stamp on each song. Their name was adopted from Deirdre’s father’s music and coffee house in a small town in Millington, Tennessee, in the mid sixties. It seemed like a perfect namesake for the band that loves to share songs spanning across genres and time.

BIRCH PEREIRA & THE GIN JOINTS
Born out of a love of the early years of swing, country, and rock ‘n ‘roll, Birch Pereira & The Gin Joints is a band whose sound transports you to the time of speakeasies, honky-tonks, and roadhouses. With upright bassist and vocalist Birch Pereira at its center, the band’s debut album Dream Man was released independently and received the Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Award for Northwest Recording of the Year in 2016. Fans, critics, and deejays have delighted in Birch Pereira’s “old soul” tenor voice, the group’s clean stripped-down arrangements of musical gems from the past, and Pereira’s ever-growing repertoire of original, yet period-evoking, material.

Van Deusen decided to take a break from touring, and TLF went on an indefinite hiatus. After two years of traveling, writing, and recording, Van Deusen just released a solo album, The Universal Sigh, part of a four-album series entitled (I Am) Origami. It was released through newly-created Monopath Records, an independent record label headquartered in his hometown of Anacortes.

THE EASY LEAVES

Marc Broussard is an artist with a unique gift of channeling the spirits of classic R&B, rock, and soul into contemporary terms. This gift has been a matter of common knowledge since 2002, when Broussard released his debut album, Momentary Setback, which he recorded and released independently at age 20. It was no secret before then, going back to those lucky witnesses who heard him belt “Johnny B. Goode” onstage at age 5 while sitting in with his father’s band. Throughout his life, Broussard has been tapped as a talent to watch. Marc’s song, “Home,” was successful on radio and catapulted him onto the national touring stage. The timeless, soulful nature of Marc’s vocal lends well to film and TV, and his music has been placed in many TV shows and movies. Marc recently released a followup to his S.O.S. album. It is another soul cover album appropriately titled S.O.S. 2. He will be donating fifty percent of the profits to City of Refuge. For more info about City of Refuge, please visit www.cityofrefugeatl.org. Marc is currently working on an original record and is hoping to release it this year.

Featuring catchy melodies, mindblowing improvisational solos, and fully scored backing tracks, Alex’s music draws from a musical influence from the past 400 years and a musical education spanning most of his 29 years on Whidbey Island. Born and raised on South Whidbey, Alex has made his living as a freelance web developer, but he considers music, art, and travel his full-time passions. Alex is active in local community service organizations and holds board positions for the Rotary Club of Whidbey West-side and the South Whidbey Children’s Center. He now lives in Freeland with his wife, Melissa, and his 3-year-old son, Delling.

THE HOT CLUB OF TROY
Inspired by the compositions of legendary gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, The Hot Club of Troy plays acoustic jazz in the master’s style and instrumentation. A swinging rhythm supplied by acoustic guitar, clarinet, saxophone, and bass provides the foundation for the timeless beauty of Django’s melodies as played on his trademark Selmer guitar. This is lyrical, lively swing!
The Hot Club of Troy consist of Troy Chapman (guitar), Eric Vanderbilt-Mathews (clarinet, saxophone), Keith Bowers (guitar), and Kristi O’Donnell (bass).

NATHANIEL TALBOT 1-800-679-3878 www.broadviewappliance.com "Serving Whidbey Island Since 1961"
When You Want the Job Done Right and You Want it Done Quickly, Come to the Two Places Where You Can Find EVERYTHING You Need. “Challenging what folk music is capable of,” says Seattle Weekly, “Talbot’s powerful, uplifting voice harnesses a country twang complemented by lush acoustic finger-picking and a violin that feels like it was birthed next to a babbling brook in the mountains.” Talbot stands on the shoulders of generations of folk musicians and Americana singer-songwriters before him. His approach to music feels like that of someone who treats it as a craft handed down and honed, like the tilling of soil or the carving of wood.

Whitney Mongé learned to capture the power of authenticity while honing her skills as a street performer. Each part of her performance, from the passion of her powerful, smoky voice to the intensity of a whispered lyric, draws listeners into an embrace within each truthful moment of song. Whitney was raised with rhythm and blues in her blood, but while growing up in the Pacific Northwest, her music was heavily influenced by the rock scene of the 90’s coining her own genre, alternative soul.
