A Warm Welcome
When I visited Whitby for the first time many years ago, it was a bustling fishing port; nowadays the town has transformed into a popular tourist destination where visitors from all over the UK and indeed the world flock for its long sandy beaches, picturesque harbour, fish and chips, and of course its connection with Dracula and the goth culture.
I am usually out and about early in the day, as I love to see the town wake up and the streets begin to come alive and fill with a buzz of excitement. Market stall owners setting up and arranging their merchandise, staff of pubs and restaurants polishing their outside tables & chairs and watering their plants, and the wonderful bin lorry crews and street sweepers keeping our streets spic and span. The sound of people greeting each other and making small talk mixed with seagulls screeching overhead and the distant sound of the sea. Bakers and coffee shops opening their doors, enticing customers with the smell of freshly made pastries and coffee, and naturally I give in to the temptation ... who wouldn’t? Once inside and my order placed, I sit down and watch the world go by for a while, then pull out my laptop, answer some emails and plan my day...
Today though is different - it is press day and lots to do. A full day in the home office working with the team and making sure that the magazine is ready to upload to the printers. Last-minute adverts, changes to adverts and proofreading amends – it can get rather hectic! But we always make the press deadline and breathe a huge sigh of relief! I hope you enjoy our magazine this month and find something interest to you. If you are a business and are wanting to advertise, we do have space available in our coming editions - why not get in touch and join me for a coffee and cake one morning in one of our many lovely coffee shops, and together we can discuss your ideas?
