The Chief Shepherd I Peter 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. In a previous discussion we discussed Jesus as the Good Shepherd, but today's focus discussion is on Jesus as the chief Shepherd. If there was any doubt as to why Jesus is the chief Shepherd let's reflect on a few of Jesus' qualities that makes Him the chief Shepherd. First, He is the head of all and in all even the first born form the dead. Second, He is the head shepherd as He is God's Son who was in the beginning with God and all things that exist were mad by Him. Third, He is the head of the church as it is His bride and He will return one day to take her to heaven with Him. Jesus being the loving, caring Shepherd that He is has a crown of glory as a reward waiting for His people. While Christ's church remains in the earth His under shepherds (pastors, apostles, evangelists, teachers and prophets) have the responsibility of feeding His people the word while guarding over their souls. These leaders are to possess a Christ-like spirit as they represent the Chief Shepherd-Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus Christ is the chief Shepherd caring for His people as a loving father cares for his children. He is God.
