Virtual Learning Expectations

Academic School Day

School is considered in session from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm and contact between faculty and students should be conducted within those hours whenever possible.

Honor Code

Students are expected to continue to abide by the honor code during virtual learning. As we encourage growth of integrity and to make honor part of the school, we expect that all assignments, assessments, and activities will be completed under the principles of our honor code. During virtual learning in the Middle School, any Honor Code violations will be handled by the Dean of Students and the classroom teacher rather than through the traditional Honor Council system.

Statement of Expectations

Conduct of students learning from home shall remain in accordance with the student Statement of Expectations established in the Handbook. Students are expected to behave in a respectful and Christ-centered manner in the virtual classroom the same as they do for the on-campus classroom, dressed appropriately for on-screen time with classmates and faculty, and are expected to refrain from any harassing, bullying or other inappropriate verbal or online behavior.

Technology Acceptable Use Policy

All virtual learning meetings, chat conversations, and visuals are subject to recording, and those recordings are property of Whitefield. Recordings will not be shared with non-Whitefield entities without written consent. Sharing of virtual learning academic meeting links, material, or resources to external entities is prohibited. Capturing content contained in the virtual learning platform with 3rd party tools or devices is prohibited unless authorized by the presenter. Technology that is borrowed from the school must be returned in the same condition.

Zoom Conduct and Expectations

For virtual learning, students and teachers will use Zoom to hold online classes and meetings. This provides an opportunity to continue to grow and build personal responsibility for learning in a new way. As a student engaged in learning at Whitefield: • I will adhere to the Matthew 18 Principle as established in the handbook. • I will engage in classes and behave with the same care and integrity as I would in an in-person classroom setting. • I understand that I am still expected to be a good citizen online and abide by the AUP and Student Handbook in a Virtual Learning setting. • I understand that Zoom video conferences and chats are subject to being recorded. • I will not take screenshots, recordings, or otherwise share class materials, discussions, or activities on social media or through any other means. • I will dress and present myself appropriately (for example, pajamas are not acceptable). • I will find a quiet corner in my home where I can participate in class independently (for example, the bed is not acceptable). • If possible, I will use headphones to reduce audio feedback while in Zoom meeting sessions. • I will not chat privately with anyone while in class unless instructed to do so by the teacher. • I will not have a cell phone, iPad, or any other personal device in my learning space during Zoom class time unless instructed to do so by the teacher. • I will ensure my camera and audio are fully functioning. If there is a problem, I will contact my teacher and the Director of Instructional Technology. • I will arrive to virtual classes in a timely manner. • I will communicate absences with my teacher and the assistant to the principal at my earliest convenience.
