DIFFERENT PATHS TO A
A way of life more than a trend. A Zen space is designed based on the minimalist philosophy that rejects clutter and uses a clean look of space and light to achieve a calming atmosphere of elevated simplicity. In the case of a bathroom, taking long baths or being conscious and at ease in your daily routines, can be a form of relaxation.

en-inspired spaces are designed to provide a relaxing realm to decompress from the over-stimulation of the ordinary world. These designs take full advantage of natural, rustic materials and clean design lines. Very often featuring white as the center color; their main characteristic is the minimal use of elements and the celebration of an uncluttered space.

In this bathroom design, the focus is on the combination of various natural materials. The stone flooring and wall tile, along with an organic stone countertop is the perfect backdrop for the contrasting stainless-steel sink in Matte Black. The beauty of the faucet resides on its minimalist lines and the high polish finish of Stainless Steel. Bringing in nature through small, potted greenery is always a soothing touch for when the space is compact. kitchenbathtrends.com

The Zen style in interior decorating refers to a flowing, natural and calming design that takes inspiration from the organic, harmonious environments found in nature. This allows us to quiet our minds, lift our spirits and rejuvenate our bodies. These layouts are typically quite open, highlighting beauty out of ordinary things with very few accessories to get in the way of expansive views. Through careful balance of simple elements, the use of natural materials, choice of nature-inspired colors and plenty of light and open spaces, the space meant to be relaxing, contemplative, visually clean and welcoming.
Light-reflecting white and natural hues (cream and taupe, light sage green, pale yellows) are preferred, but the contrast created when combining white and darker neutral colors, becomes a different, interesting approach based on the relaxing symmetry. Bamboo, stone, planks of lighter woods, unbleached fibers or even concrete; are reminiscent of a setting found in nature. Don’t hesitate to include an unexpected Zen design chooses restful note of color into your understated colors in harmonious surroundings. combinations. Light is very important, whether it Including deep reds, such as tones of is from a window or conveyed by cranberry and wine; warm browns, the choice of colors, balanced with and darker tones of greens and grays natural materials and textures. would turn the space into your own.
For the Zen design, the flow between a space and the elements within is crucial. Based on the concept that everything needs to have a natural flow like water from a spring, it is important to set a space where the layout is uncluttered and free of unnecessary items.
The concept of "Less clutter equals more relaxation" is a crucial idea behind the Zen philosophy. Streamlined storing and organization solutions fit in well with this style: built-in shelves that disappear into matching walls, recessed medicine cabinets hidden behind understated mirrors that blend in, one-piece sinks with attached vanities that save space and keep a design of clean lines.

The black wooden countertop highlights the clean lines of the above mount basin, making the perfect white finish stand out. The sleek elevated faucet has a presence of its own, pairing nicely with the vertical boards. Natural textures in muted grays and tans were chosen for the accessories, bringing in an organic feel that offers rich contrast, and warms up the high polish of the modern stainless steel faucet. 6
Kitchen Bath Trends Magazine
The idea that only white spaces, light and natural materials are the staples of Zen design is not quite accurate. The freedom to resort to darker shades or deeper-color woods and re-purposed elements is part of the versatility of this trend. Dark colors can be introduced through bold materials such as concrete and granite counters, or slate floors. Richly colored woods in high-polish finishes are also favorable when combined with streamlined fixtures in dark, neutral metal finishes like brushed nickel, gunmetal and even black.

Bringing in the accents!
T
he ongoing interior design trend of highlighting classic finishes like nickel and stainless steel by combining them with rich warm tones, won’t fade through 2019. With just the right combination, incorporating small details and accents in deep brass, or fiery copper into your home design, can turn a mundane décor into a rich and luxurious setting.
If you choose to go bold, try turning your room into a vivid statement of your design vision and taste. Mixing different metals and masterly adding contrasting hues is always a great way to stand out. The result will be a unique look for your home, one that doesn’t feel rigid or looks staged as it could be when restricting your choices to just one metal. Different metallic tones are able to represent the personality of a color in so many interesting ways.
Sun-kissed brass and cozy copper are as soothing as they are impressive. While gold can be perceived as glamorous and an attention-grabber, bronze can easily be considered its deeper and regal counterpart. Let’s not forget the rich yet subdued amber undertones in nickel, nor the classic and streamlined elegance of polished chrome and stainless steel.
Trends come in waves and even though the metallic trend has been going strong for a while now; we can’t deny that some finishes take the spotlight more than others at one point or another. Now is the time for the rich metal earth tones of copper and brass to shine, bringing everything else in your room to light.
COPPER Is a soft, malleable, and ductile metal with very high thermal and electrical conductivity. It is one of the few metallic elements with a natural color other than gray or silver. Considered a living finish, copper acquires different tones when exposed to air. It can be alloyed with tin to make bronze and alloyed with zinc to make brass.

Copper is a metal meant to be the show stopper in interior design. It is showcased at its finest when paired with a neutral background that cleanly displays the rich hues of this metal. Neutrals that flow towards the warmer side such as light wheat and airy sand tones complement the bold, red undertones in copper. A crisp, polished look can be created by combining minimalist design elements that complement, not compete with the deep presence of this finish. Natural materials like light woods and low-contrast marble or quartz also count as valid neutrals. Consider including them to add visual texture and interest.
BRASS Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc and has a yellow color, very similar to the appearance of gold. The varying proportions of zinc and copper in this metal produce a wide range of types of brass, each with not only different properties, but also color tonal differences.
While brass might be considered a bit glitzy, it can also be glamorizing to a space. Through small decorative details like frames and hardware, or to the extent of taking over the main elements like furniture, fixtures and appliances; its demure warmth makes a room feel luxurious. The elegance of brass details can brighten up a room, whether it has a traditional, vintage or modern look; brass can be the metal to make your space as ornate or as refined as you would like it to be. Darker neutral colors —black, gray, brown, blue— are all great options to highlight the regal quality of this finish.

In the past, incorporating brass into your kitchen was limited to small touches like light fixtures or cabinetry hardware. With its evergrowing popularity, you can now bring this beautiful warm finish in to your space with sinks, faucets and other décor elements.
How to incorporate “THE” trend Interior design spaces continually reinvent trends, what once was considered dated, can unexpectedly come back as part of refreshed combinations, taking up a whole new look. For example, in the past century, brass fixtures and details were very popular, it is no surprise that 10

people may associate brass with their grandmother’s hutch filled with antiques. But those pieces from another era are no longer seen as old-fashioned; their look is not seen as overdone anymore. As a matter of fact, in the vast variety of sleek finishes that shine, brass is now considered a material that looks distinctly current and trendy.
Although metals can be incorporated into any space, ranging from living rooms to bedrooms; these materials really shine when they are spotlighted in a kitchen. Since the decoration on those spaces have a longer life, the careful planning that is required to bring a design vision into reality, ensures that the metal of your choice will be a long-term star.
The FAUCET, the SINK The approach to faucet design has dramatically changed. Long gone are the days when the considerations for choosing one were based solely on needs, and the choices of available finishes were limited to one or two. The faucet has become a creative show piece on its own. Inventive shapes, outstanding functionality and unexpected finishes have turned faucets into the focal point in kitchens.
WHS1394-PSK Waterhaus solid stainless steel, single-hole kitchen faucet with a pull-out spray head, swivel spout, and lever handle, in Copper.
Sinks are so indispensable that it is easy to forget that we have not only functional, but also highly creative options to choose from. It is not an easy task to find the perfect sink, but it is a fun one where you can get creative: from types of installation, size and bowl configurations; to included drainboards, added colanders and specialty accessories, sinks come in a broad range of options.
WHNPL3020 Noah Plus Collection 16 gauge, industrial grade 304 stainless steel seamless front apron kitchen sink set, in Brass. Includes matching grid and basket strainer. Matching colander and roll mat available.
Choosing the right faucet and sink in perfectly matching finishes would be a sleek decision to make. Deciding on different but complementing finishes would amp up an otherwise “safe” choice. But mixing styles and finishes in fun, quirky ways that unexpectedly work well together, will bring out the unique personality of your kitchen.

The LIGHTING
The APPLIANCES
The DETAILS
A well-appointed kitchen needs good lighting. Today, with our infinite choices, there are as many light fixture styles and configurations as there are available finishes.
There was a time when choosing appliances was an easy task. They were there more for function than design. Now, the range of options is immense: whether you choose them based on interesting features that make your tasks easier, go for bold colors and materials, decide on a throwback style or pick a sleek modern one; appliances have become another asset in decorating a kitchen.
The secret is in the details. Consider adding an extra metallic tone to your kitchen that draws brilliantly on the personality of your primary metal choice.
From flush-mount and track lighting, to pendant-style lights and chandeliers; you can choose fixtures in an abundance of finishes including the gleaming, metallic detailing you are looking for to accent your décor.
Pot racks, drawer pulls, tea kettles and kitchen utensils with aesthetic charm, are character-rich pieces that tie together a defined look. Bar stools are also a great way to add some personality to any kitchen.
Metallic finishes will continue to be a trend in home design that won’t truly go out of style anytime soon, it's time to embrace it! kitchenbathtrends.com

What is your Farmhaus style?
Taking all these aspects into consideration, it is certain to say that almost any style trend can benefit from a front apron fireclay sink. They are extremely eye catching, not only for kitchens, but for laundry rooms, workshops and other spaces as well.
TRADITIONAL
farmhaus
This style pays homage to real farmhouse kitchens of the past: a warm mix of form and function while embracing their classic charm. Spacious cabinets and big, comfortable pieces of furniture in sturdy materials (reclaimed wood, steel), re-purposed items in age-worn finishes and natural textures, are present in this lived-in look. Earthy tones work well, and carefully placed vintage accessories make this style feel cozy without being cluttered. Embrace tradition and surround yourself with details that make you feel at home.

A fresh combination of the cozy farmhouse aesthetic with the sleek, clean lines of contemporary design, “rustic meets refined” would be a good way to describe it. A unique, take on country living-inspired style, it showcases smooth lines, glossy and shiny accents. Neutral or monochromatic schemes of light colors with dark accents achieve the simplicity of a contemporary look, warmed with key elements of a farmhouse style. The palette is built mainly by traditional whites and creams, soft grays and slate that are accented with matte black. Blending in more modern elements such as dark metals, glass, marble and even industrial details, takes it out of the traditional realm into a modern one.
OLD-WORLD EUROPEAN
farmhaus
The European countryside is the inspiration for a rustic yet elegantly refined style. An old-world European style takes its cues from countryside landscapes. Soft, pale colors taken from a provincial landscape are typically used. Warm, muted hues in earthy tones with richer colors like mossy green, mustard yellow and warm reds are preferred. This polished and quaint style hosts stone, brick, and wood elements, incorporating many natural materials and textures into its design. Ensconced in history and reminiscent of the past, European country styled kitchens will most definitely have a fireclay sink front and center, representing the familiar, friendly feeling of a traditional and somewhat simpler life.

White, black or gray can be used in creative ways with unique pops of color, creating a visual contrast to your open and airy kitchen. Clean straight lines, a clutter-free environment and smart organizational solutions are a must. And while some add natural, rustic elements to their Scandinavian style; others prefer a more contemporary approach to kitchen design. Modular cabinets, sleek floating shelves and ergonomic worktops and seating solutions, make up the core of Nordic-inspired kitchens.

RUSTIC
farmhaus
Carefree and unique, with a flair that exudes a laid-back comfort, the rustic farmhouse style combines distressed woods, open shelving, vintage accents and handcrafted items. Recycling and salvaging are key here, taking something that once was and making it belong to what is now. There are many paths to a rustic inspired kitchen, some cross over into other dĂŠcor styles. Contemporary meets rustic when adding stainless steel for example in your modern appliances or lighting. A country-theme influence can be as easy as adding a re-purposed sliding barn door for a pantry. Using poured concrete for flooring, whitewashed wood on the walls and the right fireclay sink are a good way to start on your rustic road.

The coastal farmhouse kitchen is inspired by a carefree beachy lifestyle emitting a breezy and light feeling. It is achieved by keeping an open layout and adding creative design elements. Crisp, pure white is the main color, layered with shades of cream, sandy beige, sky blues and seafoam greens. Accents in teal and turquoise would look beautiful here. These kitchens remind us of a well-loved beachside cottage. A large fireclay sink installed on a light-colored marble or quartz countertop would be superb. One in pure white finish would look calming, while one in sapphire blue would be the nautical touch that would take your kitchen to the next level. Whether you live near the beach or just wish that you did, your kitchen should be a sanctuary of warmth, comfort and serenity.
INDUSTRIAL
farmhaus
The “urban farmhouse” style has been taking the stage: a trendy and popular vibe beaming in city settings, it pairs the farmhouse charm of a fireclay sink with subway tile and exposed piping. Along with cool metals and concrete countertops, gray color schemes are at home in industrial farmhouse-style kitchens. A stunning black fireclay sink would be perfect to take on all the attention. Strong, industrial inspired faucets in stainless steel, polished chrome and gunmetal finishes would be the ideal sidekick for it but for a crisp white option as well. The result? An eclectic and impressive aesthetic that celebrates the feel of converted warehouses with exposed brick walls, pipes and high ceilings; honoring distinctive urban roots with a touch of warmth brought in from the cozy countryside.

The shabby chic farmhouse dĂŠcor incorporates well-used and muchloved items with items that have a glamorous edge. The sweet warmth of this style gets a pretty spin with the use of distressed whitewash wood, natural accents, lots of glass and cottage inspired elements. Keeping the palette as light as possible, the soft combination of whites and milky pastels like cream and oyster gray is key to this playful style. Dainty heirloom chandeliers contrast beautifully with large, strong pieces of salvaged furniture and dĂŠcor. With an ornate vintage inspired faucet in antique brass or oil rubbed bronze, the shabby chic kitchen would be a charming setting for any fireclay sink.
We are sure you never expected all these dĂŠcor choices to revolve around a fireclay sink, but this sink has adapted to design trends in such a way that the farmhouse sink of yore is no longer. SPOTLIGHT PRODUCT PEDESTAL SINK
Standing
TALL & PROUD THE PEDESTAL SINK
For almost a century,
the pedestal sink has brought classic sophistication to many guest and main bathrooms.
For many years, it has been a staple in more traditional-styled bathrooms. And like all great things, they’ve found their way back into our homes. In the past, these sinks were commonly constructed of heavy cast iron. Today’s look gleams in classic glossy white vitreous china, which has high durability and is also widely known for its magnificent beauty.
A pedestal sink stands tall and proud in some settings more than others.
An interesting tidbit about these sinks…
Where would you consider installing one? We love the way this type of sink works in a powder room. Usually situated on the main floor of a house, the powder room -otherwise known as a half bathis sometimes too small to install a full vanity. With such limited space, installing this style of sink in a smaller size, would give the appearance of an open space. If there is a vanity and sink in there making the space feel too closed in; replacing it with a pedestal sink would work wonders, not only for space and aesthetics, but in regard to the cost of the project.
Pedestal sinks consist of two separate pieces: the actual “leg” or pedestal and the basin. The sink basin is not only supported by the pedestal, as one might assume, but also by the wall behind it, that should be strong enough to support its weight. It is also easy to assume that the water supply runs up the pedestal and into the faucets, but that is not the case: the water supply must come from the wall behind the sink. 20

Small, traditional china pedestal bath sink with an integrated oval bowl, backsplash, dual soap ledges, decorative trim, and overflow.
If you think that the look of this style sink is too traditional for your interior design choice, think again! There may have been a time where pedestal sinks leaned towards the more traditional, subdued décors; but that doesn’t hold true today. If you’re looking for a classic look, you can now find traditionally styled bases with more ornate basin options.

Styles are always evolving; just like the manufacturing has progressed from cast iron to vitreous china, the shapes of both the basin and pedestal have been updated.
Looking for a modern twist? A pedestal with a design that resembles a roman column and a basin to match would be an outstanding choice. Large, traditional china pedestal bath sink with integrated oval bowl, decorative trim, and overflow.

Regardless of tastes, pedestal sinks will give your bathroom an open look that with a little bit of imagination will fit into any décor choice.
For a streamlined, minimalist look, consider a straight, tubular shaped pedestal. As for the basin style, a simpler rectangular or U-shaped one, paired with some contemporary accessories, would round up the sleek look you are aiming for. TREND ALERT BOLD FINISHES
Sinks in
BOLD
finishes and faucets to match! Sometimes you can't help but notice that some bathroom sinks and faucets aren't really that memorable, perhaps they're just means to an end of getting the job of washing up done. An ordinary bathroom sink is a thing of the past. Classic white is great for any décor but consider taking your design to the next level by opting for bold finishes, not just in your cabinetry hardware or lighting; but for a sink and faucet as well.
Trying to take an environmentallyfriendly approach to your bathroom design, but looking for a predominant item that will bring it to the next level? Start with salvaged or recycled materials to use as flooring, countertops and vanities, for a customized look.
Once you’ve considered adding a finish to your bathroom, then there’s the matter of material. You can amp up basic white porcelain by updating it with one in black. You can pair that black sink with a gunmetal or polished brass stainless steel faucet for a memorable look in any bathroom.
Going in this direction tends towards a more restorative-themed look, and staying neutral in your color scheme adds to the whole appeal. This is where a minimalist décor might thrive for a focal point. Adding a modern twist might be the finishing element this style choice is craving. Draw overall inspiration from the past and consider adding a contemporary sink or faucet to your design as a final touch.
But if you really want to go further and choose a different material for your sink, you can allow the brilliance of a stainless steel sink in Brass or Copper finish to shine by pairing it with a sleek stainless-steel faucet in the same matching finish. 22

BOLD FINISHES
So many choices!
Let’s take a look at just some of the finishes out there and how they can be combined into making your dream space a reality.
BRASS Brass is back! Available in polished, brushed or antique finishes, its gold tones can give your bathroom a high-end aesthetic while lending warmth to the space. Instead of highlighting brass in your lighting or hardware choices, consider making it your primary metal by featuring it as the focal point and using nickel, with its warm undertones, as an accent.
The biggest question to ask yourself is: what bold finish speaks to you? Spend some time envisioning your décor choices and your finished space. If you are flirting with the idea of going bold in your design, then opt for making any of these options the primary metallic tone in your space.
BRUSHED STAINLESS STEEL The classic look of brushed stainless steel is and will always be, the go-to finish. Matching well with brushed nickel, it is one of the most compatible finishes. Appearing softer than its polished stainless steel or chrome counterpart, a brushed finish lends an upscale look while having the advantage of showing less water spots and fingerprints.

GUN METAL & MATTE BLACK If you like the neutrality of brushed stainless steel and nickel but your décor needs a change from it, take a look at gunmetal and matte black. Either finish will work well on its own, paired with each other but also next to other warm metallic tones. We love the look of the deeper gray and the boldness of matte black, especially when set against a white and gray bathroom. Both newer on the finish spectrum, they are becoming increasingly popular for sinks and faucets.
COPPER

Traditional copper sinks to emit a rustic, natural vibe; but today’s amped up copper finishes will totally modernize a space. A warm tone with bold presence, it brings unique energy into any décor. Specialty metallic sinks are definitely on trend, choosing a stainless-steel fixture with a copper finish melds the Old-World charm of copper and brings it into the 21 century.

Geography of a kitchen: ISLAND OR PENINSULA?
When planning
a kitchen layout, there are so many elements that need to be considered thoroughly. The specifics of the space, such as size and location, are obvious factors that must be evaluated.
making the most of the space is a good idea; specially if you want to organize the space differently and maximize the layout without incurring any structural changes.
An updated floorplan that offers the most use of the square footage at the same time it provides efficient work and traffic flow is needed.
Maybe it’s time to follow the map along the lines of a peninsula or perhaps, an island.
WHAT IS AN
island?
The needs, lifestyle and number of people that will spend time in the kitchen are also of the same importance. Some homes have layouts that have been planned so each area has its own presence. On the other hand, open layouts are also popular; where the floorplan is free to be used as seen fit. Eat-in kitchens, kitchens with breakfast nooks for casual meals, and dining rooms that seamlessly flow into the living room, are also common. Layouts that flow between one area to another, present situations where 24
Kitchen Bath Trends Magazine
An island is a standalone cabinet set up that is not connected to the rest of the countertops nor walls in any way. It can be located at the center of the kitchen or to the side; there can be more than one as well. The main characteristic is that an island is a freestanding structure, with traffic space on all sides. This extra counter space that is separate from the other cupboards and worktops, can be used as additional workspace, a place to sit, chat and eat; without getting in the chef’s way. Islands are perfect for breaking up a large open space without restricting too much access to it. Open layouts can stay open while still having the area complemented by an island.
WHAT IS A
peninsula?
Just as the geographical term defines it, a peninsula is an area of land surrounded by water on three sides. When applied to a kitchen layout, an island is a cabinet or series of cabinets that have been installed in a way that they are attached to the rest of the countertops just by one side. Peninsulas are often seen to be an extension of the rest of the kitchen, just as a peninsula is a piece of land surrounded by water but still attached to a mainland, the kitchen peninsula has access only on three sides, as the 4th side remains attached to a wall. Peninsulas help distribute the kitchen space by creating a functional border that separates and organizes living, eating and cooking areas. WHAT TO CHOOSE, ISLAND OR PENINSULA? When remodeling a kitchen, it can be hard to visualize whether an island would seamlessly fit into a kitchen layout without making it feel crowded. It can also be difficult to evaluate if extending a countertop would make the kitchen space feel smaller and somewhat overwhelming. SPACE In the kitchen, the space between the fridge, stove and sink, is referred to as “the triangle”.
RANGE SINK
REFRIGERATOR
Peninsulas are basically extensions of existing counter space, a great alternative that lets you tailor its size to the available space. This makes a wonderful way to divide a long kitchen or separate an open layout as well. They are better suited for smaller kitchens where an island simply won’t fit. USAGE If you are thinking about adding an island to your kitchen so you can have space to sit and chat, do light work or just take a break and have a snack; and don't want to disturb the kitchen’s functionality, then maybe you should also consider including other features into it that would give you the most for your investment.
Supplying gas, electricity or water to the island means running cables, pipes or wires to it. This could be not only time-consuming and complex but means that you need to include additional costs to the budget. Installing a convenient prep faucet and sink set might be the feature that will bring your kitchen to the next level of design and functionality.
The benefit of being able to use small electric appliances or charge your phone or computer, might be enough to offset the investment. Especially if you are planning on Experts advise avoiding placing an island that interrupts this space, since using the area as an on-the-go work those are the three places which cooks space. constantly rotate between. If a peninsula would work better An island also needs enough space with your layout, then these add-on for cupboard doors to be opened. If features might be easier to attain; since the peninsula is an extension you are planning to use the island of the existing countertops, wires as an entertaining area, it needs and pipes are already in place for enough space for people to move you to extend them without much around and to pull up a chair. The island will need an area with larger complication or added cost. diameter than that of the actual counter space. kitchenbathtrends.com

STYLE Both islands and peninsulas can be both functional and aesthetically stunning. Either are a great opportunity to add elegance and personality to a kitchen. You can easily design them to become the focus of the layout and style. Either one you choose to include in your kitchen, you can certainly kick things up a notch by turning the area into a fully functional workstation. By incorporating key features, your “extra space” can go from practical and convenient, to fully outstanding.
Islands and peninsulas are a great way to make the most out of the available space in the kitchen, keeping it organized and providing plenty of space to turn that part of your home into a beautiful and functional area, that you will enjoy for years to come.

"My favorite design trend is tiling everything. It’s so low maintenance and so attractive. I love it. I see this applied often to our projects as I am a real stickler for durability and longevity. I also think it adds an immense amount of interest to surfaces that are otherwise very flat and boring. Texture and interest is key. I hope I see more texture and interest in the future. Be in the know…
KITCHEN SINK INSTALLATION TYPES
There is a meaning
behind the idiom “everything but the kitchen sink”. One of the many meanings being EVERYTHING IMAGINABLE.
What style goes best with smaller kitchens? If you have the space, which installation type would work well for a prep sink? Not sure of your style? If, by chance, you meet the perfect sink here, then building your dream kitchen design around it will be exhilarating. But maybe your kitchen doesn’t need a complete overhaul, and you’re just looking to give it a little facelift. Installing a new faucet along with a new sink will bring new life to your décor. Different materials and finishes can make your space feel fresh and new. The main thing to consider in this instance, is finding a sink that works best without having to change the configuration of the original sink space. Keeping the cut outs the same by finding similar installation types and sizes, can save you money in labor cost.
Has your kitchen seen better days, and is lacking that appeal that makes you Let’s delve into the installation types available as well as some of the want to spend time in it? Then maybe specific benefits they each have. the time for a makeover is now. When thinking about kitchen remodeling, there are so many options for cabinets, countertops, flooring and appliances that sometimes the last thing you’ll decide on is a kitchen sink. Take it from me, with my first ever kitchen remodel it, the sink was the last thing to cross my mind. I ended up with a mediocre one, just so I could get the countertop installed without delay. Take time to plan and budget your remodel. Once it is set and you have chosen your design style, contemporary, modern or traditional, for example, you might want to pick out your sink next. With the right choice, you can turn it into the focal point of your kitchen.
FRONT APRON A front apron sink is usually a larger, deeper sink where the front panel is exposed. This type of sink is designed to be installed by sliding it into a space cut out of the counter. Front apron sinks can be installed into this cut out either flush with the countertop or recessed just under the countertop. The beauty of these installation choices is that the apron front is the main focal point.
NOW…Let’s imagine all the possibilities! Let’s talk about nothing BUT the kitchen sink: installation types, materials, colors and finishes.

Now available with many different front apron designs as well as choices of materials, such as fireclay and stainless steel; they also come in a multitude of colors and finishes, bringing in that traditional feel and adding a pinch of modernity to your overall décor.
DROP-IN One of the most familiar and easiest to install sinks is known as a dropin. It installs just as its name says it does: dropping straight into a cut out in your countertop, with hidden stabilizing clips. With this style, the rim of the sink is visible.
WHNDB16 Noah's Collection large, round drop-in kitchen sink, in Brushed Stainless Steel.
If you’re looking for an easy replacement of an old sink and can find a size that works with your existing cutout, a drop-in can usually be installed by the homeowners themselves. This is a plus when looking to add a sink to an entertainment area that doesn’t have one, as you can cut down labor costs if you can manage to install it on your own.
WHND1913 Noah's Collection single bowl drop-in kitchen sink, in Brushed Stainless Steel.
UNDERMOUNT
DUAL-MOUNT
In this type of installation, instead of the rim of the sink sitting above the counter as a drop-in would, the rim is what allows the sink to be attached underneath. The countertop appears to flow right up to the sink, allowing for a seamless look.
Still working out the details of your kitchen makeover? Can’t decide between a drop-in or an undermount, but don’t want to wait until the last minute to pick a sink out? There are sinks on the market that are considered dual-mounts.
WHNCM3219 Noah's Collection Commercial Series single bowl undermount kitchen sink, in Brushed Stainless Steel.
An undermount sink may also spotlight your countertops. Without the visual disruption of a sink rim, your countertops look uncluttered. So much easier when you can wipe the crumbs from the counters right into the sink without the rim in the way!

GOING THE
COMMERCIAL ROUTE
• Kitchen design by: INC Architects & Building Designers
If you’ve been out to eat lately, you might notice the trendy
appeal of the restaurant’s visibly open view kitchen. No longer hidden behind closed walls, this allows you the illusion of sitting at the most prominent place at the chef’s table.
Commercially-inspired home kitchens vs. commercial kitchens An actively used home kitchen, on the other hand, is the place where the best memories are made with your friends and family. When deciding on your kitchen design, thinking about the feel of sitting at the chef’s table while making the best family memories, might just be your starting point in designing the finest commerciallystyled home kitchen! 32
Kitchen Bath Trends Magazine
Let’s clear up some facts before we move on. An actual commercial kitchen requires a lot more thought, space, and of course, money. There is so much put into the layout: major appliances and fixtures must be state of the art requiring expensive maintenance. Everything must be equipped for a multitude of cooks and staff, with enough space to move around as well as be built up to code.
What we’d like to do here is take the concept of a truly commercially built kitchen and scale it down a notch or two, crossing over into a commercially inspired one for the home. Take the best of what you love about restaurant-style kitchens and find those qualities in a layout and products for your home.
The goal is to design the ultimate kitchen with commercial-style elements that is also inviting to your friends and family. You really don’t have to have a huge kitchen. Work with the area you have, making the best of the layout to improve efficiency and your work flow. Take into account your food prep area in comparison to your pantry and fridge. Make sure to place your sink and dishwasher close to your eating/seating area for ease of clean up, after all, one of the main criteria in a commercial kitchen is organization. If by chance you have the space by way of a connecting hall or side room, consider converting it into a storage area, a laundry or an utility room. Once you’ve mapped it all out, it’s time to figure out where best to invest your budget. Most commercial settings focus on using quality stainless steel. Easy to maintain, it has many benefits. Commercial stainless steel is not only eco-friendly and recyclable, it also resists rusting. Its smooth surface is hygienic and will not absorb bacteria or germs. When considering stainless steel for your home, don’t skimp on quality. 304 stainless steel is the most versatile metal, proving to be resistant to corrosion and oxidation and is best for commercial equipment. You will also have to investigate the gauge. Lower gauge stainless steel, especially 16-18 gauge, is ideal for a kitchen that sees a lot of action, as it ensures it to be scratch, stain and chip resistant, making these fixtures the most durable on the market.

SPOTLIGHT PRODUCT MEDICINE CABINETS
BATHROOM STORAGE:
Medicine cabinets
When it comes to
storage, we can all agree that if there is a room that never has enough of it, it’s the bathroom, especially if you have to share one! Like most people, the thought of a larger bathroom with tons of storage sounds like a dream come true… but even the best bathrooms must have areas to store and organize those items that encompass our lives every day. IF that dream of a larger bathroom is not on the horizon for you anytime soon, then storage space that is both multi-functional as well as useful, is an absolute must. You might be a minimalist groomer that thrives on a few essentials and likes to keep them all neatly and stored away. Or perhaps, you are someone that enjoys making a complete process out of your daily routine, and wants to have all your items as organized as possible. Either way, it’s a fact that the key to getting ready efficiently and on schedule, is not only setting an alarm clock but also organization, both in your life and your routine. 38

Medicine cabinets are a life saver when it comes to storing items that you use daily. Usually located above the sink, they provide organization and easy access to prescriptions, toiletries, grooming tools and supplies. They can become an essential part of your style, as they are available not only in a variety of installations, but they come equipped with mirrored doors, lights and lately; advanced technological features such as outlets, radio and bluetooth capability.
TWO INSTALLATION OPTIONS
SURFACE MOUNT In this type of installation, the cabinet sits directly on the wall’s surface. Typically, this is the easiest mounting option, because it does not require you cutting into the wall. A surface mounted medicine cabinet takes much less time to install. Most come with simple hanging instructions and require few tools and basic experience in order to hang them correctly.
Medicine cabinets tackle storage and organization with perfect balance and come in two installation types surface and recessed mount. Learning their differences before choosing a style, will help you pick one that makes the best use of your space and will allow you to install it in the most efficient way.

Medicinehaus double door anodized aluminum column cabinet.
RECESSED MOUNT In this option, the cabinet is set into a cut out made in the wall. It sits flush, with only the mirror sitting off it. It allows for a cleaner look since all you really see of the cabinet is the mirror and your reflection. This installation option requires precise cutting for a perfect and secure fit, possibly including moving studs and re-wiring of electrical lines. A recessed unit requires more advanced building skills, a wider range of tools and far more time.
DIFFERENT BATHROOMS, DIFFERENT NEEDS Each bathroom has unique characteristics and challenges. The ease of installation of a surface mount cabinet offers more flexibility when it comes to choosing the size, depth and location. Keep in mind, with this option choosing a generous size surface mount cabinet may look cumbersome. The attractive, streamlined look of a recess mount cabinet is understandably popular, even though its capacity is limited by the depth of the wall, as well as stud and wiring placement. Your existing bathroom wall might already have a perfectly sized hole from a previous medicine cabinet, making the installation of a new cabinet with the same dimensions much easier.
DIFFERENT PEOPLE, DIFFERENT STYLES Bathroom décor is a personal choice. Both medicine cabinet configurations offer limitless options.

Try installing one on the side wall or even above the toilet. With this option there is little to no worry about wires or plumbing. A surface mounted unit can be any shape or size, as long as it fits within the space you have available! For a visually clean design, choose a recessed mount cabinet. This allows the design of the cabinetry and accessories in your bathroom to shine. In a small bathroom, a recessed unit would make a room feel less crowded and more efficient. Medicine cabinets might come to mind in the midst of a remodeling project, don’t just run out to get one that’s convenient. With today’s technology you may want to get one with all the bells and whistles. How about options for lighting, electrical outlets, or even USB and bluetooth capabilities?
WHFEL7089-S Musichaus anodized aluminum cabinet with double-faced mirrored doors, mirror-faced back wall, USB, SD card and bluetooth compatibility, FM radio, four built-in speakers, electric outlet, defogger, and blue-lit LED power button and dimmer for lights on both sides.
Did you think of the shelves inside? Make sure they are adjustable for the taller items you’d like to store. Even down to the mirrors, did you know you can get one with one on both sides of the door? As with all the details in a bathroom update or remodel, spend as much time thinking of your storage options as you do with all your fixtures.
After all is said and done, you’ll have a place for everything! kitchenbathtrends.com

A couple of sinks:
The term “His-and-
Hers bathroom" is used by industry standards for bathrooms that allocate separate sinks for two users, while still sharing the bath/shower and toilet area.
Double sinks in a bathroom, especially in a master suite, are sure to make a luxurious statement. Not only is the overall aesthetic impressive, the convenience of having a vanity with a sink for him, as well as a sink for her is undeniable. In households where both partners are in the workforce, getting ready at the same time every day, with only one sink, is just asking for trouble! Imagine, if you will, a double sink vanity that allows each person to have their own space for their daily routines. This layout lets each person have more surface and storage space for their toiletries, bathroom accessories and decorative items. One of the most important things a His-and-Her bathroom can provide is harmony...not only to your décor, but to a relationship as well. 40

Not only limited to en suites and couples, a double sink set up would work well for homes with multiple family members and a less-thanideal number of bathrooms. By having two sinks, you can be sure the line at the door waiting for your turn to brush your teeth will disappear, just as the razor or makeup brushes won’t invade your side of the sink. In this case, leaving a functioning sink open while the other one is occupied, provides ample space for families to get ready at once and without delay. From assisting in making rushed morning routines more efficient, to providing plenty of storage space within the vanity cabinet itself; these sink layouts lead to better organization in the bathroom.
You don't need an extremely spacious bathroom to benefit from the advantages of a double vanity. Even in smaller spaces, it's possible to have two sinks instead of one. His-and-her sinks can be included side by side within one solid-piece vanity, or it can be a configured in a way that includes two complete separate vanities. If there's enough space for two people to stand side by side comfortably, you can find a way to achieve your own version of the double sink layout. You can counteract the space a large vanity can take up by choosing one with open storage. It will allow you to place decorative baskets or trays to put your things in, opening the look of the overall space. If your bathroom space is limited, you might want to keep the countertop as uncluttered as possible by adding mirrored medicine cabinets for extra storage space.

Floating vanities that include drawers, cabinets and shelves are an attractive and clean alternative, leaving the flooring below it open. Even with limited space, opting for this choice, gives an appearance of a larger room. With floating vanities it’s sometimes better to install above mount basins to add to the allure as well as to save the space below for storage and not the sink base.

There are so many other solutions you might want to explore depending on the space you have to work with. If you have a large open area, an eye-catching, face-toface double vanity may be just what you’re searching for. Or, consider making the best use of the space by putting a double vanity in the middle, rather than along a wall. His-and-Her bathrooms once considered a luxury are now becoming the norm. Their convenience is rapidly turning them into a sought-after amenity that home buyers take in account when buying a home.

MAXIMIZE YOUR KITCHEN POINT OF USE FAUCETS AND POT FILLERS
A fast-paced life
calls for efficient ways to take care of tasks and still be able to enjoy time doing the things you like. The kitchen is a place where we spend a lot of time, from organizing and preparing meals, to enjoying them and then, of course, cleaning up.
All these stages involve many tasks that can become tedious and time consuming. Specialty kitchen faucets such as point of use water dispensers and pot fillers, are big time-savers. Installing one of these auxiliary faucets can help you organize the workflow and cut down on prep time, saving you any extra effort. 44

Point of use faucets A point of use faucet is exactly as the name implies, a faucet that has hot, cold or hot/cold water instantly available for you to use on the spot. They are of easy operation and available in a variety of styles and finishes. A cold point of use faucet allows you to serve yourself a big, refreshing glass of water without having to open your refrigerator.
WHFH-C1010 Point of Use cold water faucet with gooseneck swivel spout, in Polished Chrome.
For a hot water point of use faucet, a hot water tank installed under the counter, is responsible for heating up the water and storing it at your preferred temperature. Easily accessible at your sink, you won’t have to wait for your kettle to heat up water for your hot beverage, having it ready at a moment’s notice.
WHFH-H1006 Point of Use instant hot water faucet with a traditional spout and a self-closing handle, in Oil Rubbed Bronze. To be used with Forever Hot WH-TANK2 heating tank only.
Pot fillers A pot filler, also known as a pasta arm or kettle faucet, is a separate kitchen faucet styled to be installed near a stovetop or range. Its design allows the faucet to swing out when needed and be moved out of the way when not in use. Some have a long, jointed arm that allows you to adjust their overall reach.

Can’t decide which one would get the most use in your home? The solution here might be a hot and cold point of use faucet. The best of both faucets comes in handy when you have a large family always needing a drink, be it instant hot cocoa or iced tea. Conveniently placing one along with a prep sink in another area of the kitchen, or even in an area set aside as a drink station offsets the traffic and clutter from the main sink.

It is not a new concept in the kitchen. Originally used in restaurants and commercial settings, they are now considered a must-have in home kitchen designs, helping with a quick supply of water near your stove. Any high traffic kitchen would benefit with a pot filler as it would streamline the task of filling up large pots with water for pasta, soups, and stews. All of it can be done right at the stove as you’re cooking, instead of having to carry a large, heavy pot of water from the sink to the stove. Having a pot filler reduces the mess and effort while saving your back the trouble of lugging heavy pots of water around.

There are also deck mounted styles, installed directly on the countertop. If your stove is positioned in an island, a deck mounted pot filler would be a great water supply solution.
