Jack Charles V The Crown

Uncle Jack Charles is an Australian legend: veteran actor, musician, Koori elder, activist and, until recently, heroin addict and cat-burglar. This is a show about his life – told by him. Charles’ unswerving optimism transforms this tale of addiction and crime into a kind of vagabond’s progress, from the traps of dispossession to the age of grey-haired wisdom. Nova Music Theatre presents

Sweeney Todd Sweeney Todd tells the story of barber Benjamin Barker, falsely imprisoned by an evil judge who wanted to seduce his wife. Sixteen years later, Barker returns to London as Sweeney Todd, hoping to extract revenge on the man who ruined his life. Babirra Music Theatre presents

Annie The comic strip ‘Little Orphan Annie’ comes to life in this delightful family musical. Annie wants nothing more than to find her parents, who abandoned her on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the embittered Miss Hannigan. Annie’s pluck and determination lead her on many adventures to a new home in the most unexpected circumstances. Songs include Tomorrow, Hard Knock Life, Easy Street and many more. Utassy Ballet presents

Peter and the Wolf

This classic tale explores the intricacies of friendship between Peter, Bird, Cat and Duck who all work together to catch the Wolf. Their friendships are cleverly portrayed and the additional characters add further interest and drama. The accompanying ballet celebrates poet Nick Enright‘s Carnival of the Animals. A special performance of Carnival of the Animals, accompanied by The Nicholas Chamber Orchestra, will be performed on Saturday June 15 at 4.00pm. Noël and Gertie Noël and Gertie is an entertainment crafted from the diaries and letters of Noël Coward and Gertrude Lawrence, featuring songs, sketches and scenes from some of his best loved works. Highly entertaining, strangely familiar and surprisingly touching, it reminds us that Coward’s talent wasn’t simply to amuse but also to hold a mirror up to the frailty of the human condition. The realm of memory remains a great mystery. Through the eyes of three generations, Sundowner tells the story of so many Australian families. If a loved one begins to lose their memories, what role can we play in holding on to them? And how can we care for them in the present while honouring their memory? Starring Helen Morse, Sundowner combines theatre, dance and physicality in a story of lament and grief, but ultimately one of love. Robin and the 7 Hoods (classic film 1964) Setting himself up as a latter day Robin Hood, north-side boss Robbo (Frank Sinatra) hopes to get a leg up in his power struggle with rival racketeer Guy (Peter Falk). He scams the rich, takes his cut and then gives to the poor. Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Bing Crosby and Barbara Rush join in the giddy, gangsterish fun. Surrey Music Cafe at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre presents

The Stiletto Sisters By popular request, the Stiletto Sisters are returning to their favourite venue to launch the 2013 Surrey Music Café season. An audio loop providing enhanced audio volume is available in selected theatre seats for patrons wearing a hearing aid with a T switch. Please request these seats when booking tickets.
