“All is pitched in a higher key, Lilac, topaz, and ivory, Palest jade-green and pale clear blue Like aquamarines that the sun shines through” Dorothea Mackellar, The Colours of Light

“What influences me most as a painter is colour and working in the landscape. Even when it seems gloomy outside there is always something to paint. This spring has produced some amazing light. Bright hazy days, heavy rain, strong ice cold winds and brilliant clouds have given me some exhilarating times. “There are other factors. The colours of boats, figures walking on beaches and the wildlife around me all play a part. On one day on the moor a large flock of birds flew over me time and again. The beautiful colours, the sound of their wings and their soft calling to each other were especially memorable. “As each painting day offers different challenges, moods and colours, I do not think I could ever tire of this way of working. I recently read a poem by Dorothea Mackellar, called The Colours of Light and I think it sums up what I paint. So I must thank her for the title of this exhibition.” David Morgan, 2016
