CAROLINE CLEAVE
FEATURED ARTIST
31st August to 25th September 2024
This autumn collection is inspired by Cornwall’s endless natural gifts, from the beauty of meadows filled with wildflowers, to hedgerows brimming with blackberries, to the good fortune of the fisherman’s catch. Contrasting richly detailed flowers, fruits and seafood against simple backgrounds, these works explore ideas of richness in all aspects of life, from beauty and sustenance to love and personal fulfilment.
Caroline Cleave works from her studio in the heart of Port Isaac. Her paintings and prints celebrate the beauty of the Cornish coast and countryside and reflect issues of sustainability associated with our rural environment.

“An abundance means a profusion, a plethora, a rich bounty. Its symbol is the Cornucopia, the ‘horn of plenty’, a container overflowing with produce, flowers and fruits. It can also refer to a full life abounding with joy and strength of spirit, body and soul, a richness in relationships and personal fulfilment. Abundance is an energy you step into. The true meaning of abundance is having more than you need. This collection celebrates the wealth of natural gifts and opportunities available to us, and our gratefulness for what we have. It contrasts any sense of lack or dissatisfaction associated with materiality, comparing monetary wealth with an appreciation for the things we should enjoy and treasure while we are lucky enough to have them.”
