Over his 40 year career, Simeon Stafford has established himself as one of the UKs most recognised artists, known for his high-energy paintings of unique places and their bustling communities. As a child hev was introduced to celebrated painter L.S. Lowry who encouraged him to study art. Lowry’s influence is evident in Stafford’s simple figures, densely populated scenes, and uplifting Leading British painter Simeon Stafford returns to the gallery with another of his snowy, ski holiday inspired collections. Whizzing down the slopes are a lively cast of characters, interacting in the witty and revealing way that defines Simeon’s style, and capturing the fun and frolics of time spent in the Alps. The resorts of Verbier, Mont Blanc, Val d’Isere, Liskamm Reaches and Courchevel are among the winter locations included. Simeon is known for painting the hustle and bustle of people in busy places, and for the iconic characters that appear in his work, including his famous Aunt Dot doing a handstand, Trixie the family Jack Russell, and Ruby, the little girl with pigtails.inspired by the beaches and harbours of the North Cornwall coast, including a show defining large-scale work depicting a fictional funfair on Polzeath beach.
Simeon Stafford was born in Manchester in 1956, and as a child was introduced to painter L.S. Lowry who encouraged him to study art. Simeon became a professional artist in 1974, exhibiting works in what has been called a Primitive style, and in 1996 he moved to Cornwall where he began making work in response to the very different landscape and communities of the rural South West. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy, and his work is held in numerous public and private collections, including that of the Royal Family.
