Suki’s new collection celebrates the special beauty of North Cornwall in winter. Taking in views of the Camel Estuary, Pentire and Polzeath out of season, and created through delicate veils of colour followed by rich applications of paint, works in this collection capture the surging waters and brooding weather systems of cold winter days, as well as those precious moments of winter sun that light up the sand at low tide.
Working with a palette knife, brush, oiled rags and her hands, Suki creates powerful compositions that convey the awe-inspiring grandeur of Cornwall’s coastal landscape, while her palette reflects the everchanging colours of sea, sand and sky.
‘Eminance
Suki’s focus as a painter has always been on emotive expression, achieved through freedom of process, gestural mark making, and her instinctive use of colour and form.
“A total absorption of the senses is essential to my land and seascape painting, in order to fill the library of my mind with inspirational images; the minutiae of a flax petal, a dandelion, a soft grey pigeon feather or the vast sky and the relentless and powerful ocean - all these are catalogued in my head and then allowed to merge and flourish in my subconscious. This process is as important to my work as the actuality of the scene before me.”
