Whitley’s Auction Of British Art And Design Is A Tribute To A Genteel Era Of High Tories, High Tea, Garden Parties And The Pax Britannica SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2018 AT 1PM EST

On October 21, 2018, Whitley’s Auctioneers of Dania Beach, FL will present an auction featuring design and décor elements with a theme and provenance related to the United Kingdom, England, Wales, Scotland, the Emerald Isle, and all things British. The auction will highlight examples of British industrial and scientific achievement, including rare specimens of British telephones manufactured during the Age of Bell and Marconi. As well as many unusual and rare ceramic items from Wedgwood, Royal Doulton, and other British studios, the auction features over 200 original woodcut, copperplate, lithograph and engraved prints from a recently released collection, including representations of sporting and racing events, and historic commemorations of the 18th through early 20th centuries, many of them works of museum caliber. COVER LOT 343 (p.47): THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF COMMONS BY ALEXANDER BLAIKLEY (1816-1903) A color print originally published in 1857 in The Illustrated London News, depicting Sir Charles Shaw-Lefevre (1794-1888), the second-longest serving Speaker of the House of Commons (1839-1857).

The playful clown is depicted with a fun, pouty expression, and dressed in dramatic black and white costume, surrounded by colorful balloons.

4: ROYAL DOULTON ADORNMENT HN 3015 - The Gentle Arts represents the six artistic expressions that 18th century women enjoyed at the time. This figurine captures the aristocratic essence of 18th century English womanhood, looking into a miniature to-scale mirror that is also included.
