Always design a thing by considering it in its next larger context - a chair in a room, a room in a house, a house in an environment, an environment in a city plan. - Eliel Saarinen

capitalizing on space and function With most students living in small spaces while attending college and as they graduate, an apparent need for functional transitional furniture arises. Taking that into consideration I began exploring the capabilities of modular furniture. From that exploration, it became apparent that there were certain properties of shape and size associated with the world of modularity. The Dandy table system is an exploration of space saving functional elements that stem from the legs and flourish with each element that is added. In all there are 8 tables that can be achieved with this one inspiration images

Throughout the ideation phases, it was very important to explore the multiphasic abilities of a modernized table. Connection and structure became the most important instances to incorporate the changes.

Hawker-Beechcraft light sport aircraft In a sponsored studio, the class was divided into groups classified by the type mechanization powering a light sport aircraft (LSA). The LSA market was in a rapid growing at the time, as these planes were often used as instruction planes. In order to appeal to astute clientele, inspiration was drawn from vintage sports cars, distant travel locales, and customizable sports gear. inspiration images

EDPA Exhibit Design Competition EDPA, Exhibit Designers and Producers Association, puts on an annual exhibit design competition. This year’s task being to design an exhibit for GET Green, an environmentally conscious building material manufacturer. Choice of materials and stylistic ideas used in the exhibit that are cohesive to the company’s green objectives Create multiple-use spaces that expose and possibly convert the public to use green building and household products

inspiration images

The focus of the exhibit was to market the brand in a way that encourages education and growth of environmental practices through the use of GET Green products.

The first of which would be information. This would teach potential “green consumers how they can make the adjustment. The easiest and often second step is lighting. A relatively low-cost big impact way to start the green track is through light energy use. Next, consumers move on to appliances then potentially to building products.

Kansas State Olathe Innovation Campus Our Capstone Studio merged space planning and industrial design in a group exercise. The objective was to inspire the users of the building through exhibits, branding, and informative, user-friendly collaboration devices.

With the support of Johnson County we are able to welcome and educate the community by promoting the importance of the facility, the impact of food safety, and the benefits of the Animal Health Corridor. In the beginning stages of the project, our group addressed a mission statement. After implementing our design solutions, it became evident that this statement captured more than our goals, it became our marketing tool.

It was very important to strengthen the relationship of the building to the University and the surrounding community and agricultural lands. Through thoughful signage and carefully considered outdoor spaces, the building acts as a

Kansas City Rivermarket Urban Infill In the Fall of 2009, the main objective for the space design studio was to identify the programmatic needs of an architecture firm. With those guidelines I focused in on the River Market neighborhood as an urban infill site best suited for “3D Architecture & Associates. inspiration images

Kansas City architecture served as inspiration for the form and color palette. Art Deco architecture is one of the most influential styles in the city and through rich texture and use of light, I aimed to capture them in this building.

Related spaces are connected by their location on an axis which encourages travel throughout the design floors adjacent to and above or below their own workspace.

RĂŤrgonomics: a study of dynamism The premise of the investigation was to challenge traditional seating scenarios. In this day and age it is extremely important to choose a task chair that encourages healthy sitting postures and combats the growing effects of seated careers.

directive

Create an office-seating scenario that decreases the physical effects associated with sitting in one position for the standard eight-hour working day.

hypothesis

If an office chair was designed to react and interact with the user, then the potential pain and physical effects of sitting sedentarily at a desk for hours would be diminished and as a result, there would be an increase in the work output of the user.
