he Shops at Fox un is celebrating five years of existence and the location has been established as a shopping hub for the eastern Montana western North akota region during that time. oren utzler, manager at eynolds Market in Sidney, noted that eynolds’ service has only improved at its new location. We were worried that we would lose our hometown feel, utzler said. But that hasn’t happened. We emphasize customer service to our team members and it has paid off. utzler noted that eynolds Market and its sibling companies did experienced some challenging times five years ago. When we opened, we really had a tough time finding staff. We went from 0 employees to 1 0, utzler said. We were lucky enough to have a good core staff to start with. Because of the way that individuals were switching jobs during the oil boom, eynolds ended up sending out more than 00 W2s during that first year. Which was obviously frustrating, utzler said. With a much more stable workforce and constant improvements, eynolds Market is now extremely proud of its services. Additions during the years have featured smoked meats including brisket, ribs and chicken in the store’s deli. utzler said that was the idea of eynolds’ president ohn eynolds. It was basically because ohn eynolds wanted utzler PAGE more healthy options than fried food, 6 explained.
Reynold’s features a floral shop for all your floral arrangement needs. The deli has also increased its grab to go items such as salads, sandwiches and protein cups. In 201 , a full service sushi bar was added and was immediately extremely popular. Again, the objective was to offer something different than what people usually see in a grocery store in eastern Montana, utzler said. Other changes have included the addition of a fresh juice machine in 201 and the switch to carrying Food Club brands in 201 . eynolds has continued to be a positive community partner. Through the Friends of eynolds FO program, more than ,000 has been donated back to participating non profit organizations in the five eynolds Market stores in Montana. ach quarter, the stores donate a percentage back of the total purchases made by FO non profit members.

atients have b een thanking their doctors f or decades and the annual holiday recognizing physicians can b e traced b ack to 19 33, where it was f irst ob served in W inder, G eorgia. N ational Doctor’ s Day is recognized annually in the U nited States on March 30. T his day is set aside to honor physicians f or the work they do f or their patients, the communities they work in and f or society as a whole. T he holiday is celeb rated in a numb er of dif f erent ways. T raditionally, patients sent greeting cards to their physicians thanking them f or their hard work and devotion to keeping our society healthy. Each year during the month of March, the F oundation f or Community Care in Sidney provides a venue f or patrons to thank their doctors and give a gif t in- kind as a trib ute of the work they do all year long. “ T hrough this campaign, we receive several heartf elt messages to share with local physicians,” noted Melissa Boyer, CPG A, Planned G iving Of f icer at the F oundation. “ W hether the gif t is b ig or small, the value of connecting people to purposef ul work is immeasurab le. So many patients are gratef ul f or the care they receive and want to ensure q uality healthcare is always availab le in R ichland County and the surrounding area.” W hen receiving these letters, physicians are of ten humb le and appreciative. Dr. Edward Bergin, who is a G eneral Surgeon at Sidney Health Center, is celeb rating his 39 th year in Sidney this month. He has received several accolades through the years and his comment is always the same, “ T he most important person in the room PAGE is the patient.” L ike many physicians, he ab ides b y 16 the golden rule, treat others as you would wish to b e
treated. R ecently, one of Dr. Bergin’ s patients, Marilyn Buechler, age 8 1, wrote a letter of appreciation that reads like a story. T he letter is an ex ample of the good work many doctors do throughout their careers. It speaks to the relationship that develops b etween a physician and his/ her patient, ultimately b ased on trust and loyalty. Here is what Marilyn wrote:
Dear Dr. Bergin, This is a letter of appreciation from Marilyn Buechler, age 81, to a great surgeon and man who I say is the best in the USA! In 1988, my twin sister, Jackie, and I met you for our first colonoscopy. Our father had died of colon cancer and Patti Wittkopp, PA, recommended all of our family get checked. My daughter, Janet Beery, was our driver that day. We all liked you immediately as you had a great sense of humor. I remember you saying to my sister and I “Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Fun!” like the old Double Mint Gum commercials. My sister was told she had colorectal cancer. You were very kind and explained everything. She was very lucky as it was caught early and no chemotherapy was needed in her treatment. After that, we saw you annually for a long time, then about every 5 years. In 1991, my husband, Ken, had a carburetor explode in his face, arms, and chest. You assured him that even though
you had never done such extensive work on burns, you could take care of his-and you did. Right then I knew you were a great surgeon and doctor. Thank you for a job well done. Then in October of 2017, I was diagnosed with very aggressive, small cell breast cancer, which was unusual as this type of cancer is typically found in the lungs. I was never scared. I knew you and God would take care of me. Again, it was caught early and I had a mastectomy, and a pretty one, too! I went to Billings to get my chemotherapy prescribed. Thank heavens Sidney has a wonderful Cancer Center and staff. As of February 23, 2018, I have been cancer free. Most recently, I had a colonoscopy, surgery on my gall bladder where 5 stones were found in my bile duct. (I can’t seem to do anything normally!) After being sent to Billings for more surgery, I’m finally home in Richey. Now it’s healing up time. Thank you, Dr. Bergin, from me and my family for your wonderful care. God Bless, Marilyn Buechler

Your Children’s Decision or Yours FARM BUREAU FINANCIAL SERVICES - CARA L STORM
W hat is one of the hardest decisions you will ever have to make involving your parents?
W
ho w ill c are f o r them w hen they c an’ t c are f o r them s elv es ? T he answer is never easy and they certainly don’ t want to b e a b urden to their children. If you have ever b een in the position of the care taker, you know this; it is a never ending, tireless j ob that you don’ t get paid f or. N ow that you, either cared f or your aging parents or had to put them in a care f acility, now know the f inancial b urden that this can place on a f amily, how do you prepare yourself and your f amily f or a dif f erent path? Start with a conversation ab out options f or long- term care. W hen should you start shopping f or options? Statistics say that you really should start looking as early as age 4 0, b ut serious shopping needs to happen b etween ages 5 0 and 6 0. Even if you may think that you don’ t need insurance now, you do need a plan. W hether or not the plan is a typical long- term care policy that will pay a set amount per day if you go into a nursing home b ecause you can’ t perf orm daily living activities like, eating, dressing, toileting, and
b athing or it is a hyb rid plan. T ypical plans on average run ab out $ 2 7 00 a year, per individual. Although, if you are married, couples can receive discounts. Hyb rid plans can serve a dual purpose b y returning all or a portion of the premiums b ack to the heirs and their cost is higher than a typical plan.
Part of the hyb rid strategy is in using lif e insurance. W hole lif e insurance policies are now of f ering an option, in the f orm of an endorsement. If you are healthy and can q ualif y f or the lif e insurance, an endorsement is added that can b e used if you can’ t perf orm 3 of the 6 daily living activities. In the event, that you need to activate the
endorsement, the entire amount can b e pulled out of the lif e insurance to provide care f or the individual. One of the b iggest b enef its to using this option is in the premium. W hole lif e insurance premiums do not change once the policy is purchased whereas traditional long- term care policies can take spikes in premium. T he other b enef it to this option is that there may still b e money availab le f or the heirs through the death b enef it of the policy if the entire amount is not used in the endorsement option. Statistics say that b y the time you reach age 6 5 , you have a 5 0/ 5 0 chance of needing some sort of long- term care someday. If you haven’ t planned f or this event, on average ab out $ 14 0,000 would b e needed as out- of - pocket cost. U nless you have b een very proactive at saving or you want to b ecome provisionally poor, due to the current laws, it is time f or a f amily meeting. U nless you want your children to have to make that hard decision later, start the conversation now. PAGE
