How to share a love of food with others Humans have broken bread together since ancient times. National Geographic says that a circular loaf of bread with scoring marks — baked to be divided with others — was retrieved from the ashes of Vesuvius. Biblical references to “breaking bread” are as old as time, and today the phrase still represents sharing a meal together. Food provides nourishment necessary to sustain life, but dining also can be an act of socialization, community and love. Psychology Today says that, since food is essential for survival, it gives people an ideal opportunity to express love through sharing sustenance with others. Sharing a love of food with others is a great gift that can be given in various ways. Family meals Countless studies underscore

the importance of sitting down to eat meals together as a family. A family meal can help with everything from maintaining healthy weights (as reported in The Journal of Pediatrics) to improving performance at school to solidifying personal relationships among family members. Family meals encourage conversation and a step back from digital distractions and other tasks that tend to pull families in opposite directions. The dining table is a safe place where everyone can talk about their lives and enjoy a delicious meal at the same time. Food gifts Food can be a comfort. Just think about how Mom’s warm soup and grilled cheese made you feel after a chilly day spent playing in the snow. Chocolate can help mend a broken heart, and friends may

commiserate over an ice cream sundae. Bringing food to mourners is a traditional practice and is even mentioned in scripture. According to Jewish law, the first meal that mourners eat after returning from a burial should be brought to them by friends and neighbors. Taking a casserole over to a friend or family member who has suffered a loss, is recovering from an illness or needs a dose of encouragement is a great way to share a love of food. Cooking customs Preparing a family recipe together is a great way to learn about food and one’s personal history. Recipes that are passed on from one generation to another keep traditions alive and can be an easy way for youngsters to learn

about their ancestral history. Living longer Sharing a meal or cooking with someone you love may help improve your mental health. Data from a 2014 study from the Mental Health Organization found eating well and together is associated with good mental health, while a poor diet can contribute to overall poor physical and mental health. Making friends Bringing brownies to a new neighbor or welcoming a new coworker with treats in the office is a sweet way to facilitate new relationships. Food is a connection that binds the human race. Sharing and enjoying food together offers immense benefits.

Wrapping gifts is a very old tradition the Three Kingdoms of Korea period, which began in 57 BC and ended in AD 668. The Japanese tradition of furoshiki, which can be traced back to the 17th century and possibly as far back as AD 710, involves using a traditional wrapping cloth to transport certain items, including gifts. As for the gift wrap familiar to today’s holiday celebrants, that traces its origins to the early 1900s. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis® notes that Eli Hyman and Morris Silverman founded the first gift wrap company in the United States in 1903. Unfortunately for gift givers back then, adhesive tape had not yet been invented in 1903, and wouldn’t be for another 27 years.

The holiday season is rife with tradition. One of the most recognizable traditions involves wrapping gifts. While the wrapping paper many gift givers use today is a relatively recent phenomenon, the tradition of wrapping gifts is centuries old, with some historians even suggesting it dates back to ancient times. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis® notes that many ancient cultures celebrated various holidays that included exchanging gifts, adding that it’s very likely that, even in ancient times, gifts were wrapped to surprise their eventual recipients. Hunters come in all shapes and sizes and from all walks of life. When shopping for gifts for hunters, it can be advantageous, particularly for consumers who don’t hunt, to think of the ages and experience levels of their loved ones and then go from there. Young and/or inexperienced hunters Many areas have minimum age requirements for hunters, and nearly every region requires hunters to take courses on hunting safety before they can apply for hunting licenses. Financing such educations can be an ideal gift for young hunters, ensuring they will have a strong foundation in firearm safety and other important aspects of hunting before they come of age and go on their first hunting trip.

Some additional gifts that can be great for established hunters include a rifle case; ammo cans; a bore guide, which hunters use to clean their rifles; camping gear; headlamps; and other items hunters routinely use that could be in need of an upgrade. Of course, one of the best

reasons to choose a huntingrelated gift for the family outdoorsman is it might compel them to share their bounty when they return home from a successful trip.
