MASTERCLASSES & SHOWCASE CONCERT

Behind The Music

Behind The Music

Lecture-Recital

Wigmore Hall’s investment in nurturing the next generation of song recitalists continues as Wolfgang Holzmair passes on the wisdom of his long experience to talented postgraduate students from London’s four conservatoires. The Austrian baritone has taught at the Salzburg Mozarteum since 1998 and is a visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London. His approach as performer and teacher is devoted to the art of expressive communication.

Wigmore Study Group THE SONGS OF GUSTAV MAHLER Tuesday 9, Thursday 11 & Wednesday 17 December 3.00 pm – 6.00 pm Series ticket price £60, which includes 3 study sessions and a ticket for the evening concert by Christian Gerhaher and Gerold Huber on 17 December.

Des Knaben Wunderhorn, a collection of folk poems and songs, was a great source of inspiration to Mahler, who created settings of apparent folkloric simplicity, concealing a complexity of musical craft and symbolic meaning. Hosted by composer Julian Philips and pianist Laura Roberts, we explore the richly evocative world of Mahler’s songs with contributions from visiting musicologists and performers from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
