Upper School 2021-2022
We expect and encourage our students to respond honestly and directly when asked to disclose noted disciplinary incidents on their college applications, or later if an application or applications have been submitted. If a reportable change occurs after applications have been submitted, the student is required to notify colleges or universities within two weeks of the date of status change. In reporting changes, the student should confer with their college advisor to ensure that the effect and wording of the notification are appropriate.
Clearly, disciplinary matters are of concern to colleges and universities; however, our experience suggests that they understand that young people make mistakes and learn from them. Admission committees are generally more concerned with the manner in which students respond to any disciplinary measures than the actual transgression. A thoughtful, mature and articulate response to a discipline infraction can illustrate a student’s accountability and growth as an individual.
D. NCAA Eligibility
Students athletes who are interested in participating in college athletics should inform their college counselor and familiarize themselves with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and its eligibility mandates. Those aspiring to compete at the NCAA Division I or II level are required to create a NCAA Certification Account by the end of Grade 11 at https://web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3/ for consideration of academic eligibility and amateur status. Detailed eligibility requirements are clearly delineated on the noted website.
Additional information about the College Counseling Office process and policies can be found in the Academics section of our website.

A. Student Leadership
Affinity and Alliance Group Leaders work with their faculty advisors to run meetings, plan events, and meet with other faculty and staff members to make sure members of their group are seen, heard, and supported in this community.
Captains Council is an advisory committee on athletics composed of the current season’s team captains. The Director of Athletics supervises the committee.
Global Leaders have the opportunity to improve their leadership capabilities by seeking challenges, thinking critically about local and global issues, and engaging in their community through service.
Upper School 2021-2022
Global Scholars are a select group of extraordinary students who engage in opportunities for extra-curricular intellectual enrichment, including monthly lectures, special speaker series, and cultural events, which engage them in important scholarly dialogue about global issues.
Orientation Leaders create and implement the new student orientation program. This funloving bunch of students integrate necessary information about the first days of school with a series of jovial games that act as icebreakers between returning and new students.
Peer Counselors are supportive role models and mentors for other students. As a peer counselor, you will provide support and helpful information while building a stronger community. Peer counselors have the opportunity to develop confidence, increase peer connections, and strengthen leadership skills.
Prefects are an essential part of our residential life program. They are expected not only to uphold the Academy’s rules and policies but also to enforce them. In doing so, they play a significant role in making dorm life run smoothly. As peers and confidantes to fellow dorm mates, prefects also work closely with dorm parents and the Deans Office.
Student Government represents the Upper School student body. Its objectives include increasing student empowerment and spirit, class pride; serving on the R&D; planning for class trip; and supporting the transition of students into the Alumni body.
B. Student Organizations
Each year, a number of groups meet on campus to pursue common interests. They vary based on student and faculty interest and include competitive academic teams. Each group is student-directed in conjunction with a faculty/staff advisor. Students who wish to start a new organization must see the Dean of Residential Life or Dean of Students for more information.
C. Community Service
Through athletic teams, clubs, programs like Global Leaders and class-designed service experiences, students have opportunities to support our community and personal sense of social responsibility.
Additionally, each season an Afternoon Program option focused on community service is offered. Students who decide to participate will gain skills in public, media and community relations, event planning and global economics, all while helping others in need.
