B. Residential Life Policies

Middle School 2022-2023

For students who board, their dormitory serves as the nucleus for much of their lives at WMA. Their dorm parents are members of faculty and staff who support them, academically, socially and emotionally. The Middle School residential life staff, Director of the Middle School and Deans work to plan and develop developmentally appropriate activities to build community among the Middle School boarding population.

Students also participate in dorm chores. Our cleaning service still cleans the dorms and, through Tidy Titans, students develop a sense of pride and respect for their communal living space, recycle and learn how to maintain a clean, living space for all those in the dorm.

B. Residential Life Policies

All boarding students must have an emergency contact. This person will need to be able to come to campus on short notice to pick up their student should the student need to leave campus for any reason. Reasons might include the need to pick up the student for planned school vacations or due to unanticipated events, such as an unplanned school closure, student discipline, quarantine, illness, behavior that places the student or others at risk, or other medical needs that cannot be supported on campus or otherwise requires distancing from our campus community. Whether the designated emergency contact is the student’s parent or legal guardian or an alternative emergency contact, this person must be someone who is available to come to campus within 12 hours to assume care and responsibility for the student.

Dormitory rules are based on common courtesy and respect for the rights and property of others. The purpose of these guidelines is to enable students and faculty to live together in a pleasant, positive environment. Reasonable requests of dorm parents are to be honored by all students. Note: Students are not allowed to have animals or pets of any kind.

Weeknight (Sunday-Thursday) Evening Routine

Sunday through Thursday at 6:30 p.m., the dorm parent on duty checks on the students and their rooms. Beds must be made, clothes hung in the closet or folded in dresser drawers, dirty clothes in a basket, clutter picked up, desk organized and cleared for work, and trash discarded. In general, the entire room should be neat, clean and tidy.

Sunday through Thursday from 7 - 8:30 p.m., students have study hall. From 9 - 9:30 p.m., students have free time. At 9:30 p.m. the dorm parent oversees the drop-off of all technology and stores it in a secure closet. The students get ready for bed, and lights out is at 10 p.m.
