THERMOTEC BATTERY WRAP HEAT BARRIER This battery wrap gives you the ultimate protection against leaking battery fluid. The black felt material is treated with a proprietary material that neutralizes acid. It is also a big help for you custom builders wanting to protect delicate parts of the bike against excessive heat. The highly reflective surface of this wrap is capable of withstanding radiant temperatures in excess of 1050°C. MSD PULSE IGNITION Evolution and Shovelhead engines will all benefit from the power of the MSD Pulse Ignition. The multiple sparking capacitive discharge design of this ignition ensures combustion of the fuel mixture in each cylinder, improving the power and output of the engine. Below 3,000 rpm, the MSD fires each spark plug multiple times during the combustion stroke. This series of full power sparks burns in the cylinder for up to 45° of crankshaft rotation. These sparks result in quick starts, smooth idle and lightning quick throttle response. MSD’s Pulse Ignition features a 2-step rev-limiter, a built-in step retard function for nitrous and other racing applications and an adjustable electronic advance system. The 2-step rev-limiters are adjustable with built-in dipswitches and can easily be adjusted between 5,500 and 9,250 rpm (in 250 rpm steps). Back in the mid seventies, when everybody was still thinking points and condensers, they were building reliable electronic ignition systems for HarleyDavidson motorcycles. DYNA RPM LIMITER Dyna’s RPM adjustable from 6.000 to over 12.000 RPM by easy to operate dip switches. This new version of the RPM limiter has an additional output stage that works independently of the RPM limiter. The output stage can even function when the RPM limiter has no power. It works on a simple 12 Volt signal and can, for example, be used for clutchless upshifts. The Dyna RPM limiter is designed to prevent bent valves and blown engines due to overrevving or missed shifts. The limiter will work with any electronic inductive type ignition and can use up to 4 Dyna blue, low impedance coils. It does not effect engine performance until the pre-set maximum revs are reached. At that moment the spark is killed until the RPM’s drop to under maximum, the spark is then reactivated. Note: Can not be used with CDI ignition. 232266 Single stage RPM limiter
DYNA TWO STAGE REV-LIMITER The two stage rev-limiter is designed to provide accurate launching RPM’s so that the rider can concentrate on the start and not on RPM’s. The limiter uses a unique control function which makes an instant decision at the time of firing. A 12 position switch that is used to set launching RPM’s can be mounted easily. DYNA SHIFT MINDER SYSTEM The Dyna shift minder system consists of two elements, the electronic module and the indicator light. The compact indicator light has an amber collecting lens that can be easily seen and uses a 6 Watt bulb held in place with a coil wounded spring in a bayonet style socket. The indicator measures 1 1/2" diameter by 3 1/2" long. The electronic module has a 6 station switch that provides 32 possible settings in 125 RPM increments. POWER CORE IGNITION COIL AMPLIFIER The Power Core ignition coil amplifier increases the coil’s output performance of any inductive ignition system by up to 50%. Simply connect the Power Core to the primary side of the coil and the coil’s energy storage capability, spark energy and the available spark voltage will be increased, without effecting the coil’s RPM limit. The hotter and more powerful spark the coil produces, will ignite the air/fuel mixture much quicker, more reliable, and more efficiently. MSD PLUG WIRE KIT Spark plug wires have two main functions; transfer the spark and suppress electro magnetic interference created by the spark. The special copper conductor on MSD wires keeps wire resistance under 50 Ohm/Foot. Even with this low resistance, with its 8.5mm the wire retains its EMI reducing capability. The copper conductor is tightly wrapped around a ferro-magnetic core to further prevent any interference in the wire. N.O.S. KITS, POWER IN A BOTTLE BY EDELBROCK In the early days of the airplanes, the Fighterplanes needed more power for faster and higher climbing in times of trouble. These were the days the constructors discovered that using Nitrous in combination with extra fuel gave the planes the extra power needed. When Fighter-planes changed to Jet powered engines, Nitrous got slightly forgotten and it was not before the sixties Nitrous was used again in race engines and hot rod cars. It works as follows. For the engine Nitrous Oxide is a more pure form of Oxide (oxygen). Since we are only interested in the Oxide inside the air, this is an easy way of getting more power. This extra power is gained by injecting the Nitrous with extra fuel in the manifold. The oxygen in the Nitrous Oxide gets "the extra fuel" burned, thus getting more h o r s e p o w e r. N o w a d a y s s p e c i a l i z e d companies build tailor made Nitrous Oxide Systems (N.O.S.) for Harley- Davidson motorcycles. Most N.O.S. kits require fabrication for mounting of all the hardware required running the system. These tailor made kits are special designed to solve those problems. The result is a clean looking, easy to mount, control unit which houses the electronic control module, fuel pump, filter and solenoids. This unit is mount to the left side of the engine using the top engine mount. The nitrous and the required additional fuel are fed into the engine through the fogger plate, which mounts between carburetor and manifold. And then we have the bottle itself, which is mounted on the frame with special brackets. The electronic control module comes preprogrammed to prevent accidental activation at too low RPM, which can damage the engine. It is set so that it cannot be activated below 4000 RPM. Once above this level, when activated, the module controls the flow of fuel and nitrous to the fogger plate, staggering the delivery so that the fuel and nitrous are delivered at the spray bar together, reducing the change of detonation. Independent Dyno test show these N.O.S. kits will increase the power with as much as 35 Horsepower !!!! If you want so "Smoke" everyone at the traffic lights and just show them your taillight, this is the way to go. Continued on next page

S&S 145 CI ENGINES In 2003, to celebrate 45 years in business, S&S Cycle has built the ultimate High Performance V-Twin engine. This engine is a tribute to the original founders, George and Marjorie Smith. In addition, it commemorates Harley- Davidson’s 100th Anniversary. It is also intended to honor all passionate builders, riders, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts who have helped grow the 100-year evolution of the V-Twin motorcycle market. The limited production 145 Cubic Inch motor, which is capable of producing over 185 hp and 180 ft. lb. of torque, is the product of 45 years of e x p e r i e n c e . I t f e a t u re s t h e l a t e s t i n technology, from the special "Big Fin" design 4 3/8" cylinders and high flow B2 CNC oval port heads, to the S&S Variable Fuel Injection (VFI) system with dual 2.062" throttle body, manifolds and special billet velocity stacks. For the ones that like a Big carburetor over injection we have the 145 CI engine with a carburetor available. Each engine is fully polished and built around S&S Special Application crankcases. The bottom end uses the same hardened forged steel flywheels and 1 1/2" press-in crank pin as the Super Sidewinder Plus engines. Actual displacement is 144.7 Cubic Inches (2.371 CC!), with an 11:1 compression ratio. Specific parts include the cylinders, flattop pistons, 8 1/4" billet steel connecting rods, and billet gear cover and velocity stacks. Cylinder heads are prototypes of the B2-Race casting for Twin Cams and fully CNC-ported. They utilize 2.2" intake valves and 1.8" exhaust valves, which are activated by "Old Reliable"- the S&S 631 camshaft. The 145 CI is available with carburetor as well as Injection. Both models feature a HVHP oil pump that keeps the moving parts moving. Fuel Injection equipped engines come with the S&S VFI electronic fuel injection and include a fuel pump with incorporated pressure release valve. THE DRY SUMP PLATE FOR DELKRON CRANKCASES For those of you who want the option to suck the oil out-of the lower end of the sump, this fixture will allow you to get that oil before it is thrown around the engine a couple of more times, which makes for less drag on the flywheels. It is made of T356-T6 aluminum and bolts right up to all Delkron crankcases. Comes complete with gasket, mounting screws and 3/8" hose fitting. DELKRON’S BILLET ALUMINUM 4 CAM BIGTWIN CRANKCASE Strong, Stronger, Strongest, Here it is, "the Crankcase Of The Third Millennium". It utilizes the superior valve train geometry of a Sportster but has the strength of the Big- Twin flywheel assembly. The cam location is the same as stock Evolution Sportster cases from 1986 thru 1990, so all available cams for this engine type will bolt right into this case. The crankcase and cam cover are made from 6061- T6 aluminum, which insures uniform strength and hardness throughout. A minimum overall case thickness of .400", a left side case thickness of more than 1.250" and almost .900" of case between the flywheel cavity and the cam location surface provides the most rigid flywheel support of any crankcase available today. The drive side of the case is machined to accept late model Timken bearings for the 1 1/4" sprocket shaft, while the pinion side is machined to accept a single Timken and ball bearing configuration in combination with an aircraft quality high contact ball bearing for maximum flywheel support. pump system with the scraper at the bottom of the case and uses the more efficient late model Sportster rotary type oil pump or any type Pro-Flow Sportster pump for better pressure and scavenge ability. JIMS TITANIUM WORKSAVER PUSHRODS These pushrods are the latest in valvetrain technology. Machined out of a special titanium alloy that is normally used in the medical field. This alloy results in a pushrod that is as strong as Chrome-moly, but as light as Jims Pro- Lite aluminum pushrods, weighing in at only 67 grams. These pushrods have been developed due to the large demand for reducing reciprocating weight in the V-Twin valvetrain. To install these pushrods there is no disassembly of top end or removal of cam required. JIMS SOLID BILLET STEEL H-BEAM BIG-TWIN CONNECTING ROD SETS Connecting rods at their finest. The Jims connecting is machined from a solid certified aerospace-quality 4340 moly steel. Each rod is heat treated, magnafluxed, shot peened and completely inspected with a hardness test for each rod. Rod race bores and wrist pin bushing bores are within .0003" of each other at a 32 bore finish for the best possible bushing and race adhesion. The wrist pin bushing oiling hole has been optimized for better lubrication of wrist pins, and an increase in the strength. Jims chose H-beam for stability and strength for both drag racing and any street application over the standard I beam rods. TOTAL SEAL PISTON RINGS Total Seal is the leading company in the development of innovative ideas in piston rings, and has done a great deal of testing in an attempt to solve the complexities of sealing a cylinder under all circumstances, like high RPM s, Big Bore sizes, high temperature and other severe conditions. TS1 sets are the highest performance rings on the market. They have a Moly Max plasma ductile iron top ring. This ring will hold up to extreme heat and detonation and is used in nitro, blown and nitrous applications. Total Seal highly recommends this ring for high performance street applications, where the compression ratio has been raised. The second ring is the Gap-less design patented by Total Seal. The Total Seal Gap-less design eliminates the end gap problem and keeps the gap blocked as ring and cylinder wall wear occurs. The oil ring in the TS1 set is a 3 piece design with a stainless steel expander and tool steel chromed faced rails. Total Seal piston rings sets are sold in sets for one single piston. A.R.P. HIGH TENSILE STRENGTH BASE STUDS High Per formance and Race engines, especially nitro burning engines, need more than just a stud to hold the cylinders down in case of a miss-fire or total ignition failure. Too many times cylinders have come of the crankcase destroying expensive parts and in some occasions even worse, due to the braking of "cheap quality" base studs. No longer, we had A.R.P. (Automotive Racing Products) make the strongest stud on the market. We selected two qualities of high tensile strength steel to manufacture these base studs from. One quality has a tensile strength of 190.000 PSI (130 kg/mm2) the other has the ultimate strength of 220.000 PSI (160 kg/mm2). Both qualities have rolled thread and are available in a long (2.75") and a stock replacement (2.375") version for use with thin or thick base flange cylinders. We also supply the ultimate strength 12 point nuts (7/16" UNF) for use with this stud. PRO-FLOW MESS FILTER FOR SPORTSTER TYPE OIL PUMPS The Pro-Flow per formance pump incorporates a unique filter oil level control system to regulate the minimum oil level in the camshaft gear case. It is located on the upright tower and sits in the gear case when the pump is installed. These mess filters fit over the Pro-Flow oil pump suction area and regulate the oil level in the gear case. The filter only regulates the level in the gear case and does not effect the level in the engine sump. Filters are available in street, race or blank. You can drill the blank version to your own specifications. There is also a racer’s set available that contains all three versions. PROFLOW OIL PUMP FOR SPORTSTERS After years of searching for ways to improve the oil system in a high performance Sportster engine, ProFlow has developed this 3-stage oil pump as a bolt-on for mild street to high performance applications. Oil pressure and oil volume are no problem in the modern Sportster and Buell engine due to the gerotor design feed gears used since 1977. Where the problem lies is the stock pump’s ratio between the feed versus the return and its inadequate ability to return the oil to the tank after it has performed its lubricating duties. Extensive testing of the stock system it was found, that at RPM’s over 5000, the feed side of the pump is delivering more oil to the engine than the scavenge is capable of returning thus filling the crankcase with an unwanted excess of oil. In any engine where high RPM’s are the norm, engine wet sumping occurs, robbing your engine of horsepower through additional drag on the flywheels and other moving parts. Several designs were constructed and tested, and from this testing they developed the ProFlow pump. Fully CNC machined from 6061-T651 billet aluminum, the ProFlow uses a similar same style gerotor feed as the OEM pump, but has large spurtype scavenge gears and improved port capacity that returns more oil than the gerotors can feed, even well past maximum RPM. The payoff is a "dryer" engine sump which produces more power by controlling internal losses. The ProFlow’s compact design fits in the frame with no modifications, and its modular construction is completely sealed by o-rings for a tight, leak-free seal. >>>

PRO-FLOW OIL PUMP FOR BIG-TWIN MODELS After nearly two years of development the Pro-Flow Big-Twin oil pump is ready for high performance service. Pro-Flow found that the stock oil pump provides an inadequate supply of overheated oil, especially in a performance application. This is because both stock and aftermarket designs split the feed into two sections being the tappets & top end, and the bottom end. A certain RPM level must be reached before the regulating valve opens allowing oil to be fed to the crankshaft. This may increase the risk of starving the pistons of that all-important cooling lubrication. Low RPM oil supply is poor and the overall volume of oil being run through the engine is marginal, at best. This was allowed to happen for years because the OEM Harley roller bearing engine design is very forgiving in a stock form, but a d d i n c re a s e d p re s s u re d u e t o h i g h compression, big bore and/or stroke, along with tall gearing and you have got the recipe for piston galling and reliability problems. ProFlow designed an oil pump based on the proven design in the Sportster version of the Pro-Flow pump, the Big-Twin pump shares the gerotor gear feed for constant supply, and spur gear return for its ability to efficiently pump air as well as oil. To meet the Big-Twin engine’s need, several gear sizes were designed and tested with the objective of getting the oil in and out of the engine at an optimum rate. The next step was to control what it lubricated. >>>
An adjustable valve body was designed using easily removable jets to control the oil to the top end and crankshaft independently, allowing the oil supply from the Pro- Flow pump to be constant to both at all RPM’s. Once maximum oil pressure is achieved, a pressure relief passage opens and directs excess oil back to the oil tank, unlike the stock system which continuously heats and recirculates the same oil within the pump. The end result is fantastic. The Pro-Flow Big-Twin pump feeds twice the amount of oil into the engine and returns three times as much as the stock pump, at stock pump drive ratio. It is fully adjustable for pressure and flow-rate, accepts stock oil lines, and requires no machine work to install. Beautifully CNC machined from billet aluminum, its clean, functional appearance and satin finish will enhance the looks of any Big-Twin engine as well as improve its per formance and reliability. S&S CAST PRO STOCK ENGINES Several years ago S&S began offering the parts to build 160” 45° V-twin Pro Stock engines. Four years ago, S&S introduced a new style Pro Stock engine with a 60° cylinder angle. At that time S&S only offered the parts required to build the engine. S&S now offers both the 45° and 60° 160” Pro Stock engines complete and assembled! This is a service that S&S has never offered on race engines before. The reason they are offering it now is that as the technology involved in these engines continues to become more and more complicated, proper assembly becomes more and more important to the durability of the engine, and to the full development of power. Unassembled versions and replacement parts are available as well, but we highly recommend that these engines be purchased assembled. Both the 45° and 60° Pro Stock engines are a modified four cam design. The bottom ends are built with S&S Pro Stock style cast crankcases and a “pork chop” style S&S Pro Stock pressed together flywheel assembly. The 45° engines typically used are either 8.000” or 8.500” S&S billet aluminum connecting rods. The 60° engines by virtue of the wider cylinder angle can use a shorter 7.500” S&S billet aluminum connecting rod. The top ends of the Pro Stock engines consist of S&S finless steel cylinders, S&S 4.800” bore pistons, and S&S cast aluminum Pro Stock cylinder heads. The valve train for both engines utilizes the S&S adjustable-lobe cams, chrome-moly steel pushrods, 1.725:1 ratio forged rocker arms, polished billet rocker covers, and a billet gearcover. Crankcases and gearcovers are available with or without the oil filter mounting location. S&S Pro Stock engines typically use a pair of S&S Super D carburetors.
45° or 60°? Which Engine Is Right For Your Application? The S&S 45° Pro Stock engine is available primarily for use in existing chassis that are designed for an engine with 45° cylinder angle. If you intend to build a new frame, we recommend that you purchase an engine with a 60° cylinder angle.

The S&S 60° Pro Stock engine offers these distinct advantages over the 45° engine. 60° cylinder angle results in a shorter, lighter engine with less vibration. Even with shorter connecting rods, piston skirts do not need to be clearanced as heavily to avoid contact at the bottom of the stroke. Longer piston skirts provide more thrust surface and improve piston stability in the cylinder for longer piston life and improved ring seal. Shorter connecting rods allow for shorter cylinder length and a more compact engine package.
The Cast 60° Pro Stock Engine offers a number of advantages over the older 45° design. If you intend to build a new frame we recommend the 60° engine. This engine is shown with optional intake manifolds for the S&S variable fuel injection system. This engine is legal for Super Twin Top Gas and FIM/UEM Pro Stock.

Driveshaft speed is used to look at tire slippage and also to calculate a slippage ratio between the engine and the clutch or gearbox. After that the selection starts to spread out. Popular items include the exhaust gas temperatures (indicator of rich/lean fuel mixture), fuel pressure (fuel system efficiency), oil pressure (engine problem warning), pan vacuum (engine efficiency or warning signals), along with an accelerometer (G-meter) and battery voltage. From there it just depends on how hungry you are for information. You can start looking at nitrous bottle or fuel pressure, fuel flow, brake pressure, manifold vacuum or boost, water/oil/cylinder head temperature, ignition timing (only for V500 systems), shock travel, event markers, throttle position… well, you get the idea. The trailer based AltaCom II monitors the four prime weather parameters using a mast mounted, fan aspirated remote sensor station. From the four prime parameters it then calculates seven other weather values. Each value is updated every 20 seconds. The pager allows you to stay current with changing conditions even when you are away from the console’s LCD display. T&V RACING’S OVERKILL CRANKS AND CRANKCASES The ultimate nitro burning Harley bottom-end. These are the cranks and crankcases that have put Nitro Harley racing into the new Millenium. When you demand the highest possible from your nitro burning race engine, the only way to go is “side-by-side”. The cases are CNC machined from heat treated aircraft quality aluminum with a huge roller bearing on the pinion side and a huge ball and roller bearing on the output shaft side for extreme load handling and stability. The camchest is of a Sportster type configuration for better pushrod geometry and is premachined to accept an external cam driven fuel pump and oil pump. The one piece crank is made out of a special heat treated chromemoly alloy and uses a special pinion shaft, which has the pinion gear directly machined on it. This is to ensure it can handle the stress of excessive exhaust pressure combined with driving the fuel and oil pump. The last weak-spot of the side-by-side configuration is the bolt and pin pattern on the output side of the cranks. Zodiac racing has the cure and exclusively offers a new generation side-by-side crank that has a splined output shaft. Also made from a super tough heat treated chrome moly alloy and machined to exact tolerances, these cranks can handle more load then anything else on the market today. BDK FUEL METERING VALVE The BDK metering valve is used on front running nitro burners to accurately control the amount of high flow fuel volume bypass. The base pressure is simply adjusted by setting the spring pressure with the T-handle. But unlike normal bypass valves, the BDK metering valve gives you the opportunity to regulate different pressures at different phases of the run. This is the fuel valve that can maximize traction at the start-line, maximize acceleration half way down the track by boosting up the fuel pressure, and maximize top end speed by leaning the engine out at the high RPM range. This is regulated by pressurizing and depressurizing the air chamber of the valve. It accommodates two AN-8 fittings for the fuel inlet and output and a Festo/SMC type quick release hose fitting for the air pressure chamber. This valve is used by all the Pro’s in Nitro racing.
