Once a month, on an otherwise quiet Sunday afternoon, you can catch a glimpse of interesting characters (often carrying large swathes of drawing paper and bottles of wine) making their way down Kyogle’s main street and into the doors of The Occasional Studio. Artist and teacher Rebecca Tapscott welcomes them into her bright, creative hub, the studio that isn’t always open - “only occasionally” - so they can draw and paint and create.
Since Rebecca launched the workshop-style lessons ‘Wine and Line’ (still life with a continuous art style) and ‘Life & Line’ (figure drawing with a model) they have been a great success, with the room often overflowing with amateur and professional artists from near and far. Rebecca offers instruction in her signature continuous line art style, and advice on using colour and shape, then lets you make it your own. “I love that this space is here, both for myself, but also for all artists to use. It feels like a big, messy, creative home to many and it is definitely my hideaway.”
No experience is required to take part in a class, but bookings and a deposit is recommended to secure your spot, as sessions often fill quickly. The Occasional Studio is also available to other creatives for workshops during weekdays (or as a peaceful place for artists to work). With 1/2 day bookings available for $50. Enquiries via direct message either on Facebook Messenger or 0411 840 616.
