Don’t find fault. Find a remedy. ~Henry Ford
Things to do in the bathroom stall... 1. Stick your palm open under the stall wall and ask your neighbour, “May I borrow a highlighter?” 2. Say “Uh oh, I knew I shouldn’t put my lips on that.” 3. Cheer and clap loudly every time somebody breaks the silence with a bodily function noise. 4. Say, “Hmmm, I’ve never seen that color before.” 5. Drop a marble and say, “oh shoot!! My glass eye!!” 6. Say “Darn, this water is cold.” 7. Grunt and strain real loud for 30 seconds and then drop a cantaloupe into the toilet bowl from a high place six to eight feet. Sigh relaxingly. 8. Say, “Now how did that get there?” 9. Say, “Humus. Reminds me of humus.” 10. Fill up a large flask with Mountain Dew. Squirt it erratically under the stall walls of your neighbours while yelling, “Whoa! Easy boy!!” 11. Say, “Interesting....more sinkers than floaters. 12. Using a small squeeze tube, spread peanut butter on a wad of toilet paper and drop it under the stall wall of your neighbour. Then say, “Whoops, could you kick that back over here, please?” 13. Say. “C’mon Mr. Happy! Don’t fall asleep on me!!” 14. Say, “Boy, that sure looks like a maggot” 15. Say, “Darn, I Knew that drain hole was a little too small. Now what am I gonna do?” 16. Play a well known drum cadence over and over again on your butt cheeks. 17. Before you unroll toilet paper, conspicuously lay down your “Cross-Dressers Anonymous” newsletter on the floor visible to the adjacent stall. 18. Lower a small mirror underneath the stall wall and adjust it so you can see your neighbour and say, “Peek-a-boo!” 19. Drop a D-cup bra on the floor under the stall wall and sing “Born Free” 20. When you’re in a bathroom stall take a Snickers candy bar with you and when someone is next to you, squish it in your hand and reach under the stall wall and say “You got any more toilet paper over there, This side’s completely out.”

Buffalo Soldiers & Philly Xtreme @ Philly’s Fallen Heroes Memorial Motorcycle Ride After a heavy night at the pub, a drunken man decides to sleep off his drunkenness at a local hotel. He approaches the reception desk, takes care of the formalities and heads off to his suite. Several minutes later, the drunk staggers back to the reception desk and demands his room be changed. “But sir,” said the clerk, “you have the best room in the hotel.” “I insist on another room!!!” said the drunk. “Very good, sir. I’ll change you from 502 to 525. Would you mind telling me why you don’t like 502?” asked the clerk. “Well, for one thing,” said the drunk, “it’s on fire.”

The computer asks him his ailments and the man says he has a sore elbow. A drawer pops out and he is asked to urinate in it. After a few bleeps and flashing lights the computer decides he has tennis elbow. The man is annoyed and decides to get one over on this machine so he asks his wife for a urine sample. He then mixes this with urine from his dog and his small son and to top it off, adds some of his sperm. He takes it to the computer-physician who again asks him for a sample. He places the urine/sperm sample in the drawer and the computer makes its usual display of bleeps and flashes before telling him that his wife is pregnant, his dog has rabies, his son has chicken pox and if he doesn’t stop masturbating he’ll never get rid of his tennis elbow.

After the Great Britain Beer Festival, in London, all the brewery presidents decided to go out for a beer. The guy from Corona sits down and says, “Hey Senor, I would like the world’s best beer, a Corona.” The bartender dusts off a bottle from the shelf and gives it to him. The guy from Budweiser says, “I’d like the best beer in the world, give me ‘The King Of Beers’, a Budweiser.” The bartender gives him one. The guy from Coors says, “I’d like the only beer made with Rocky Mountain spring water, give me a Coors.” He gets it. The guy from Guinness sits down and says, “Give me a Coke.” The bartender is a little taken aback, but gives him what he ordered. The other brewery presidents look over at him and ask “Why aren’t you drinking a Guinness?” and the Guinness president replies, “Well, I figured if you guys aren’t drinking beer, neither would I.”

There was a pilot flying a small single engine charter plane, with a couple of very important executives on board. He was coming into Seattle airport through thick fog with less than 10m visibility when his instruments went out. So he began circling around looking for landmark. After an hour or so, he starts running pretty low on fuel and the passengers are getting very nervous. Finally, a small opening in the fog appears and he sees a tall building with one guy working alone on the fifth floor. The pilot banks the plane around, rolls down the window and shouts to the guy “Hey, where am I? To this, the solitary office worker replies “You’re in a plane.” The pilot rolls up the window, executes a 275 degree turn and proceeds to execute a perfect blind landing on the runway of the airport 5 miles away. Just as the plane stops, so does the engine as the fuel has run out. The passengers are amazed and one asks how he did it. “Simple” replies the pilot, “I asked the guy in that building a simple question. The answer he gave me was 100 percent correct, but absolutely useless, therefore that must be Microsoft’s support office and from there the airport is just a while away.”

Dining & Entertainment Meet the Creative Team At East Lynne Theatre CAPE MAY — Meet the creative team behind East Lynne Theater Company’s world premiere of “Emma Goldman: My Life.” How difficult is it to create a brand new show – a production that no one has ever seen before? How and why do playwrights, actors, directors, and stage managers do what they do? And who is Emma Goldman? Immediately after the show on Friday, June 25, audience members will have the opportunity to ask these and other questions of the crew that brought the world premiere of “Emma Goldman: My Life” to East Lynne Theater Company’s stage. ELTC’s Artistic Director Gayle Stahlhuth asked actress/playwright Lorna Lable if she would be interested in creating a onewoman show about Emma
Goldman. Lorna began her research and finished the first draft in February 2008. “Emma Goldman: My Life” runs from June 16 through July 10, every Wednesday through Saturday at 8:30 p.m., where the company is in residence at The First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes St., Cape May. Tickets are $28 general admission; $23 for seniors and those with disabilities and their support companions; and $13 for full-time students. Children ages 12 and under are always free. Season tickets are available through June 30. For information and reservations, call 609-884-5898 or visit www.eastlynnetheater.org. To make a reservation using a credit card, call 866-280-9211.

A drunk goes into a bar. He is very, very drunk can hardly stand up. He slurs his way up to the bar and says: “Hey, bartender! Gimme a martini!” “No, no,” says the bartender. “You’ve had too much already.” The drunk spies a dart board behind the bar. “Tell you what,” he says. “If I can throw three bull’s eyes with that dart set would you let me have the drink?” “Sure,” says the bartender, thinking the guy would leave after the little game. He hands the drunk three darts. “Look out, everybody!” Zot, zot, zot. The drunk throws three quick bull’s eyes. Well, the bartender had never seen anything like that before, but he has to make good on the wager, so he makes a martini and sets it before the drunk. He then puts a napkin next to the drink and sets a turtle on it. “What’s this,” says the drunk. “That’s a prize for such fine dart throwing,” says the bartender. The drunk drinks his martini, picks up the turtle, puts it in his coat pocket, and leaves. Well, the next night, the same drunk goes into the same bar. Again, he is hopelessly inebriated; totally faced. “Bartender,” he says. “Gimme a martini!” “No, no,” says the bartender. “You’re too drunk already. Go home.” Again the drunk notices the darts. “If I can throw three bull’s eyes would you gimme the martini?” he asks. The bartender thinks, “This guy can’t be that lucky again. I’ll get rid of him.” “Sure, sure,” he says, handing the darts over. Bip, bip, bip. Three bull’s eyes. “Holy cow,” says the bartender, and he gives the drunk guy a martini. Again, he sets a turtle next to it. “What’s this?” asks the drunk. “That’s a prize for being such a good shot.” “Oh,” says the drunk, and he quaffs his martini, puts the turtle in his coat pocket, and leaves. Believe it or not, the very next night the same drunk enters the same bar. “Gimme a martini!” he demands. “No, no,” says the bartender. “You’ve been overserved already. Get on home.” Spying the dart board once more, the drunk guy says:”Would tossing three bull’s eyes prove that I’m not overserved?” The bartender can’t believe that anybody this drunk could possibly hit the dart board, let alone get three bull’s eyes. “OK,” he says, forking over the three darts. The drunk deftly grabs all three darts and tosses them simultaneously. Thwock! All three darts land solidly in the bull’s eye! “Unbelievable!” says the incredulous bartender. True to his word, he prepares a martini and sets it before the drunk guy. He then lays a beautiful long-stem rose on the bar next to the cocktail. “What’s this?” asks the drunk. “That’s a special prize for being so good at darts,” says the bartender. “Oh,” says the drunk. “All out of roast beef on a hard roll, huh?”

Jackie @ Philly’s Fallen Heroes Memorial Motorcycle Ride I’d Do Anything A student comes to a young professor’s office. She glances down the hall, closes his door, kneels pleadingly. “I would do anything to pass this exam.” She leans closer to him, flips back her hair, gazes meaningfully into his eyes. “I mean..” she whispers, “..I would do ANYTHING!!” He returns her gaze. “Anything??” “Yes,.. Anything!” She says. His voice turns to a whisper. “Would you.. study??”

A truck driver, hauling a tractor-trailer load of computers, stops for a beer. As he approaches the bar, he sees a big sign on the door that says, “COMPUTER NERDS NOT ALLOWED - ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!” He enters and sits down. The bartender comes over to him, sniffs, and says that he smells kind of nerdy. He then asks him what he does for a living. The truck driver explains to him that he drives a truck, and the smell is just from the computers he is hauling. The bartender serves him a beer and says, “OK, truck drivers aren’t nerds.” As he is sipping his beer, a skinny guy walks in wearing a pair of glasses with tape around the middle, a pocket protector with twelve kinds of pens and pencils, and a belt that is at least a foot too long. The bartender, without saying a word, pulls out a shotgun and blows the guy away. The truck driver asks him why he did that. The bartender replied, “Don’t worry. The computer nerds are in season because they are overpopulating Silicon Valley. You don’t even need a license.” So the truck driver finishes his beer, gets back in his truck, and heads for the freeway. Suddenly, he veers to avoid an accident, and the load shifts. The back door breaks open and computers spill out all over the road. He jumps out and sees a crowd already forming, snatching up all of the computers. The scavengers are comprised of engineers, accountants and programmers - computer geeks. Each of them wearing the nerdiest clothes he has ever seen. He can’t let them steal his whole load. So remembering what happened in the bar, he pulls out his gun and starts blasting away, killing several of them instantly. A highway patrol officer comes zooming up and jumps out of the car screaming at him to stop. The truck driver said, “What’s wrong? I thought computer nerds were in season.” “Well, sure,” says the patrolman, “But you can’t bait ‘em!”

Real Facts A giraffe can clean its ears with its 21-inch tongue. Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying. The pitches that Babe Ruth hit for his last-ever homerun and that Joe DiMaggio hit for his first-ever homerun where thrown by the same man. Bats always turn left when exiting a cave. The praying mantis is the only insect that can turn its head. In Tokyo, they sell toupees for dogs. There are over 52.6 million dogs in the U.S. Dogs and cats consume almost $7 billion worth of pet food a year. Baby robins eat 14 feet of earthworms every day. The Pentagon has twice as many restrooms as necessary. When it was built, segregation was still in place in Virginia, so separate restrooms for blacks and whites were required by law. In England, in the 1880’s, “Pants” was considered a dirty word. Most dust particles in your house are made from dead skin. In 2003, there were 86 days of below-freezing weather in Hell, Michigan.

A young guy from Minnesota moves to Florida and goes to a big everything-under-one-roof department store looking for a job. Well, the boss liked the kid and gave him the job. ‘You start tomorrow. I’ll come down after we close and see how you did.’ His first day on the job was rough, but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down. ‘How many customers bought something from you today?’ The kid says, ‘One.’ The boss says, ‘Just one? Our sales people average 20 to 30 customers a day. How much was the sale for?’ The kid says, $101,237.65.’ The boss says, $101,237.65? What the heck did you sell?’ The kid says, ‘First, I sold him a small fish hook. Then I sold him a medium fishhook. Then I sold him a larger fishhook. Then I sold him a new fishing rod. Then I asked him where he was going fishing, and he said down the coast, so I told him he was going to need a boat, so we went down to the boat department, and I sold him a twin engine Chris Craft. Then he said he didn’t think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4x4 Expedition.’ The boss said ‘A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a BOAT and a TRUCK?’ The kid said ‘No, the guy came in here to buy Tampons for his wife, and I said, ‘Dude, your weekend’s shot, you should go fishing’

Celebrating Our 40th Year My Rules Typical macho man married typical good-looking lady and after the wedding, he laid down the following rules: “I’ll be home when I want, if I want and at what time I want-and I don’t expect any hassle from you. I expect a great dinner to be on the table unless I tell you that I won’t be home for dinner. I’ll go hunting, fishing, boozing and card-playing when I want with my old buddies and don’t you give me a hard time about it. Those are my rules. Any comments?” His new bride said, “No, that’s fine with me. Just understand that there will be sex here at seven o’clock every night.. whether you’re here or not.”

Spaghetti A wealthy man was having an affair with an Italian woman for a few years. One night, during one of their rendezvous, she confided in him that she was pregnant. Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage, he paid her a large sum of money if she would go to Italy to have the child. If she stayed in Italy, he would also provide child support until the child turned 18. She agreed, but wondered how he would know when the baby was born. To keep it discrete, he told her to mail him a post card, and write “Spaghetti” on the back. He would then arrange for child support. One day, about 9 months later, he came home to his confused wife. “Honey,” she said, “you received a very strange post card today.” “Oh, just give it to me and I’ll explain it later,” he said. The wife obeyed, and watched as her husband read the card, turned white, and fainted.

Health Tips from Dr. Einstein Q: Aren’t fried foods bad for you? A: YOU NOT LISTENING! Food are fried these day in vegetable oil. In fact, they permeated by it. How could getting more vegetable be bad for you?!? Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle? A: Definitely not! When you exercise muscle, it get bigger. You should only be doing sit-up if you want bigger stomach. AND REMEMBER . . .
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO-HOO, what a ride!!”
Impossible to Please A group of girlfriends is on vacation when they see a 5-story hotel with a sign that reads: “For Women Only.” Since they are without their boyfriends and husbands, they decide to go in. The bouncer, a very attractive guy, explains to them how it works. “We have 5 floors. Go up floor by floor, and once you find what you are looking for, you can stay there. It’s easy to decide since each floor has a sign telling you what’s inside.” So they start going up and on the first floor the sign reads: “All the men on this floor are short and plain.” The friends laugh and without hesitation move on to the next floor.

The sign on the second floor reads: “All the men here are short and handsome.” Still, this isn’t good enough, so the friends continue on up. They reach the third floor and the sign reads: “All the men here are tall and plain.” They still want to do better, and so, knowing there are still two floors left, they continued on up. On the fourth floor, the sign is perfect: “All the men here are tall and handsome.” The women get all excited and are going in when they realize that there is still one floor left. Wondering what they are missing, they head on up to the fifth floor. There they find a sign that reads: “There are no men here. This floor was built only to prove that there is no way to please a woman.”

REMEMBERING THE “SUMMER OF JAWS” da... dun daaa... dun da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da... (Alright, so humming that creepy score comes across much more effectively than typing it!) This week marks the 35th anniversary of the release of Jaws, the film often credited with creating - and defining - the summer blockbuster genre. The second project completed by then-28-year-old director Steven Spielberg, it became the first movie to gross over $100 million at the box office. In fact, it accomplished that feat by the end of the Summer of 1975. The tale of a killer shark terrorizing a small resort town sent moviegoers into a frenzy, nationwide. But in the Wildwoods, the story resonated in a unique way. Jaws ran all summer long at the old Blaker Theater with up to three showings daily. Sellouts were the norm at the 600-seat former vaudeville house, with long lines extending down the Cedar Avenue Boardwalk ramp and rapping around the corner onto bustling Atlantic Ave. Locals surely remember Vince Sculli, who came to be known as “Joe Jaws.” Sculli held court daily at the Blaker, ultimately taking in 68 presentations of Jaws that summer. Wildwood 365 is celebrating Jaws all week with a variety of daily features, including a three-part interview with Sculli entitled “Catching up with Joe Jaws.” Head on over to www.wildwood365.com and share your favorite Jaws memories with us! Jaws Facts & Trivia * The movie was an adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name by Peter Benchley. It was inspired by several real-life encounters, most notably the infamous Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916. * The film won three Academy Awards in 1975: - Music (Original Score): John Williams - Sound: Robert L. Hoyt, Roger Heman, Earl Madery, John Carter - Film Editing: Verna Fields * One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest won for Best Picture * Jaws was voted #48 on AFI’s 100 Greatest American Movies of All Time list * Steven Spielberg named the mechanical shark Bruce, after his lawyer. Upon its initial launching, it sank. Curiously, it hadn’t previously been tested for water. Because the robot often malfunctioned, Spielberg adopted the technique of shooting from the shark’s eye level. Many consider this to be what ultimately led to the film’s scary appeal. * Benchley wanted Robert Redford, Paul Newman, and Steve McQueen to play the lead roles. Lee Marvin turned down the role of Quint. A Boatful of Memorable Quotes Jaws remains one of the most quotable movies ever. Some of the more famous lines have permeated pop culture awareness and are used with regularity in daily conversation, television commercials, etc. Here’s a sampling of some of our favorite quotes... Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss): I’m not going to waste my time arguing with a man who’s lining up to be a hot lunch. That’s a twenty footer! Sam Quint (Robert Shaw): Twenty-five. Three tons of him. Chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider): We’re gonna need a bigger boat. Quint: The thing about a shark, it’s got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll’s eyes. When it comes at you it doesn’t seem to be livin’... until he bites you, and those black eyes roll over white. Quint: You know that was the time I was most frightened? Waitin’ for my turn. I’ll never put on a lifejacket again. So, eleven hundred men went into the water. Three hundred and sixteen men come out, the sharks took the rest, June the twenty-ninth, nineteen-forty five. Anyway, we delivered the bomb.

By: Al Alven Morey’s Piers “mega coaster” concept inching closer to reality According to a report in last week’s Wildwood Leader, the mega coaster being planned by Morey’s Piers is now awaiting a CAFRA permit after gaining approvals from the Wildwood zoning board and North Wildwood planning board. This will, presumably, be the final step before the physical work can begin toward bringing this spectacular concept to life. The state-of-the-art coaster is being designed to span two piers. Beginning on Surfside Pier, it will then travel across the beach (between 26th & Juniper) and continue onto Hunt’s Pier, before eventually returning to Surfside. Doran Clark of the Morey Organization has estimated that the project will take approximately one year “in fabrication” and one year of on-site construction. Given those estimates, the 2013 season figures to be a decent bet for the debut of this landmark attraction. North Wildwood beach replenishment project underway
Photo Al Alven
Work began last week on a project to fill areas of the beach in North Wildwood that were depleted during a series of storms this past winter. The areas around 2nd & 3rd Avenues are being addressed first, with 50,000 cubic yards of sand for replenishment. The second stage will focus on the beach between 11th & 22nd Aves. The third stage - between 22nd & 26th Aves. - figures to be the most tricky, as the dunes within that stretch need to be completely rebuilt. At present, there is no bathing beach there during high tide. The project is expected to move quickly, with the goal being to have all work done before the Fourth of July. Vintage Vacation Memories This week’s vintage family vacation photo come to us courtesy of Mark Peyko, publisher of the Monthly Metro in Youngstown, Ohio. Mark’s family history in the Wildwoods goes back over seven decades. In the late 1940s, his Uncle Ed and cousin Eddie built a cottage near what is now Shawcrest and Lavender Roads, southwest of the Rio Grande drawbridge. Here is Mark (on the right) with his older brother Chris, on vacation in Wildwood during the mid-1960s. Mark recalls of the family’s Volkswagen Bus: “It felt like it never exceeded 40 mph on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, but it was really roomy.” Thanks to Mark for sharing this wonderful memory with us! Each week, we will feature new vintage vacation photos. If you have pics you would like to share, drop us a line at wildwood365@gmail.com. Include as much info as you would like, including names of those in the photo(s), location, particular vacation memories, etc. 5 Mile Beach Trivia In honor of Jaws, this week’s trivia is about the movie theaters of the Wildwoods. William C. Hunt, the namesake of the famous Hunt’s Pier amusement center, established his business empire through his success in the film industry. In addition to the aforementioned Blaker, how many Hunt’s Theatre Inc. entities can you name? Hints: Only one former Hunt’s theater remains in operation, on the Boardwalk. Two others are still standing - one long dormant and the other completely transformed into something else. Three others were located within a block of each other on Atlantic Avenue, between Cedar & Schellenger. Bonus points if you can name additional Hunt’s theaters outside of the Wildwoods. Last week, we asked for the previous two names of the Pink Cadillac Diner at Atlantic & Garfield Aves. It originally operated as the Atlantic Diner and later became Big Ernie’s Fabulous 50s Diner. Did you get it right?

The Girl Around Town By Natalie Cooper Last Wednesday, on my day off, I decided I wasn’t to do anything but relax and treat myself after a busy workweek. After spending most of the day bronzing on the beach, followed by leisurely swims in my backyard pool, I knew I had to make the most of the rest of my day off and carry over the fun until Echo’s Dollar Bottles later that night. This only meant one thing— going out to dinner. To say I talked my two friends who shared in my ventures with me throughout the day into continuing the party and going out to eat would be a lie. The only issue that sparked a questionable debate was choosing where to go. We thought about the island and all the restaurants we haven’t eaten at yet this summer. Of course there are new ones sprouting up on every corner, and of course we wanted to try them. But we couldn’t neglect the restaurants that have been around for what seems like forever, of which we’ve always heard about, but never tried. We decided on The Boathouse. We pulled up to the foot of the bridge and made the left into the parking lot and saw it in front of us. The Boathouse fits its name perfectly because that’s exactly what it looks like—a house. And get this—it sits on the bay. The Boathouse looked like the place to be for a nice night out, with the sun starting to lower in the sky and reflect off the tan siding of the three-story house, casting a rippled reflection out onto the water behind it. We walked up the wooden staircase and under the green awning, while little white lights glowed brightly as we passed by. When we ascended the staircase, a host waiting patiently greeted us. He informed us that we had to choose whether we wanted to sit in the inside dining room or outside on the deck, and that’s the nice thing about the restaurant—it’s almost like two separate restaurants, with each seating area presenting two totally different experiences. He insisted on us trying to inside dining room if we were in the mood for quality, gourmet dinners, naming off just a few of their famous entrees—mahimahi, tilapia, lobster, crab cake. If we were in the mood for a more casual experience, he insisted we take seats out on the deck, where more of a bar-style food is served—fried calamari, wraps, salads, shrimp cocktail. I looked in through the glass door at the inside dining room and saw a waiter speeding by with a tray, with another taking an order from a table of four sitting directly in the back of the room, with a perfect view of the water. Then I looked to my right and saw the outside seating area on the deck. And as a heard the first note of music sounding from the bar area, I was sold. While we took our seats at a table on the landing, we all agreed that we would save the inside dining room for another time, opting now for the more casual experience. And as we sat and waited for our food, I gazed out at the boats passing by peacefully, gliding on the water. I gazed at the other people gathered in groups, sitting and conversing and laughing, and I looked at the people sitting at the bar, chatting with the bartenders while watching the big game on the flat screen TV’s mounted above the bar, all the while as beach music hummed softly in the background. It was a relaxing experience, I concluded—one that I will definitely take part in again. Good food, good service, good atmosphere, and a good continuance to my relaxing day off.
