Things that def Pregnant woman, bucket of water & a couple homeless guys...
What was this guy thinking? Those are definately the wrong shoes for that thong.
wt
With all the time spend surfing the internet we come across some pretty strange things. What better place to share some of those than here? So in this issue, we’re starting a new section entitled “Things That Defy Explanation.”
fy explanation Ever wonder how many midgets it takes to pull an airplane? 48.... the answer is 48 A UPS delivery truck in a river, a guy in a tux and a sewing machine. What do all these have in common?
tf
Our only real criteria for what qualifies for this new section is that when we look at it our primary reaction is “What the #$@%? So enjoy, and if you you have anything that you think qualifies for this category please send it to us at editor@wildwoodmag.com.

An old lady came into her doctor’s office and confessed to an embarrassing problem: “I fart all the time, Doctor Johnson, but they’re soundless, and they have no odor. In fact, since I’ve been here, I’ve farted no less than twenty times. What can I do?” “Here’s a prescription, Mrs. Barker. Take these pills three times a day for seven days and come back and see me in a week.” The next week, an upset Mrs. Barker marched into Dr. Johnson’s office:”Doctor,I don’t know what was in those pills, but the problem is worse! I’m farting just as much, and they’re still soundless, but now they smell terrible! What do you have to say for yourself?” “Calm down, Mrs. Barker,” said the doctor soothingly. “Now that we’ve fixed your sinuses, we’ll work on your hearing.”

THE GUNFIGHTER A young man in the Old West wanted to be the best gunfighter alive. He practiced every day, but knew he was still missing something that would make him the best. One night, as he was sitting in a saloon, he spotted an old man who had the reputation of being the greatest gunfighter in his day. So the young fella went over to the old man and told him his dream. The old man looked him up and down and said, “I have a suggestion that is sure to help.” “Tell me, tell me,” said the young man. “Tie the bottom of your holster lower onto your leg.” “Will that make me a better gunfighter?” “Definitely,” said the old man. The young gunman did what he was told, then in a flash he drew his gun and shot the bow tie off the piano player. “Wow, that really helped. Do you have any more suggestions?” “Yeah, if you cut a notch in the top of your holster where the hammer hits, the gun will come out smoother.” “Will that make me a better gunfighter?” “It sure will,” said the old man. The young guy did what he was told, drew his gun in a blur and shot the cufflink off the piano player. “This is really helping me. Is there anything else you can share with me?” “One more thing,” said the old man, “Get that can of axle grease over there in the corner and rub it all over your gun.” The young man didn’t hesitate but started putting the grease just on the barrel of the gun. “No, the whole gun, handle and everything,” said the old man. “Will that make me a better gunfighter?” “No,” said the old man, “but when Wyatt Earp gets done playing that piano he’s going to shove that gun up your ass, and it won’t hurt as much.

Faith is a passionate intuition. ~William Wordsworth
There was once a farming family which lived off their only cow. One day, the mother woke up to find that the cow had mysteriously died. Obviously distraught, she committed suicide, thinking that life was not worth living. A few hours later, the father wakes up and finds his wife and cow dead. He also commits suicide. The eldest son wakes up and sees that his parents are dead. But while he was trying to take his life in the lake, up popped a mermaid who said, “If you have sex with me five times in a row, I will make everything alright.” The son tries desperately, but only manages three times and commits suicide. The second eldest son wakes to find that his brother and parents are dead. Again the mermaid intervenes, “If you have sex with me ten times, I will make everything alright!” said the mermaid. The son tries, huffs and puffs but dies from exhaustion after only seven tries. Finally, the youngest son wakes up, sees everyone dead, and attempts to commit suicide. The mermaid says, “If you have sex with me 15 times, I’ll make everything alright!” To which the boy replies, “Fifteen times?! You’ll end up like the cow did after I finish with you!”

One day a guy decided to visit an old friend’s grave. He picked up some flowers to put on the grave as a show of respect. He entered the grave and put the flowers on the grave of his departed friend when he noticed another guy putting a beer on the grave of his friend. The guy thought this was rather amusing. He shouted over to the other “My son, when do you think your buddy’s going to come up drink his beer!” The guy man shouted back, “The same time that your friend comes up to smell his flowers !!!!!”

Pessimist: One who, when he has the choice of two evils, chooses both. ~Oscar Wilde
Sindi @ The Shamrock
Sean & Patty @ Uries
Two guys went moose hunting every year without success. Finally they came up with a foolproof plan. They got themselves a very authentic cow moose costume and learned the mating call of a cow moose. The plan was to hide in the costume, lure in the bull, then comeout of the costume and shoot the bull. So, they set themselves up on the edge of a clearing, in their costume, and began to give the moose love call. Before too long their call was answered by bull in the forest. They called again, the bull answered closer to them. They called again, The bull answered, and came crashing out of the forest and into the clearing. As the bulls’ pounding hoof beats got closer the guy in front said, “OK, lets get out and get him”. After a moment, that seemed like an eternity, the guy in the back shouts “THE ZIPPER IS STUCK, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO!?”. The guy in the front says, “Well, I’m going to start nibbling grass, but you better start to “brace” yourself!”

Mildred was a 93 year-old woman who was particularly despondent over the recent death of her husband Earl. She decided that she would just kill herself and join him in death. Thinking that it would be best to get it over with quickly, she took out Earl’s old Army pistol and made the decision to shoot herself in the heart since it was so badly broken in the first place. Not wanting to miss the vital organ and become a vegetable and burden to someone, she called her doctor’s office to inquire as to just exactly where the heart would be. “On a woman,” the doctor said, “your heart would be just below your left breast.” Later that night, Mildred was admitted to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her left knee.

This big, nasty, sweaty woman wearing a sleeveless sundress walks into a bar. She raises her right arm, revealing a big, hairy armpit as she points to all the people sitting at the bar and asks, “What man out there will buy a lady a drink?” The whole bar goes dead silent, as the patrons try to ignore her. At the end of the bar, a skinny little drunk slams his hand on the bar and says, “Bartender! I want to buy that ballerina a drink!” The bartender pours the drink and the woman chugs it down. After she’s completed the drink, she turns again to the patrons and points around at all of them, again revealing her hairy armpit, saying, “What man out there will buy a lady a drink?” Once again, the little drunk slaps his hand down on the bar and says, “Bartender! I’d like to buy the ballerina another drink!” After serving the lady her second drink, the bartender approaches the little drunk and says, “It’s your business if you want to buy the lady a drink, but why do you call her a ballerina?” The drunk replies, “Sir! In my eyes, any woman who can lift her leg up that high has got to be a ballerina!”

www.ElitePublicAdjusters.com The following is from the US Government Peace Corps Manual for its volunteers who work in the Amazon Jungle. It tells what to do in case you are attacked by an anaconda. Now an anaconda is the largest snake in the world. It is a relative of the boa constrictor, it grows to thirty-five feet in length and weighs between three and four hundred pounds at the maximum. This is what the manual said: If you are attacked by an anaconda, do not run. The snake is faster than you are. Lie flat on the ground. Put your arms tight against your sides, your legs tight against one another. Tuck your chin in. The snake will come and begin to nudge and climb over your body. Do not panic. After the snake has examined you, it will begin to swallow you from the feet — always from the end. Permit the snake to swallow your feet and ankles. Do not panic. The snake will now begin to suck your legs into its body. You must lie perfectly still. This will take a long time. When the snake has reached your knees slowly and with as little movement as possible, reach down, take your knife and very gently slide it into the side of the snake’s mouth between the edge of its mouth and your leg, then suddenly rip upwards, severing the snake’s head. Be sure you have your knife. Be sure your knife is sharp.

A grubby old man asks a woman if she would sleep with a man for a million dollars. She thinks it over for a moment, and then replies that she would sleep with a man for a million dollars. He offers her $50 to sleep with him. “What kind of person do you think I am?” And slaps him in the face. “We’ve already determined what kind of person you are. Now we’re just haggling over price.”

Soccer-mania takes over the beach The Cape Express Beach Blast tournament drew an estimated 20,000 people to the Wildwoods over the weekend, as 960 barefooted soccer teams battled it out on the sand. The event, sponsored annually by Morey’s Piers since 2003, featured players and teams from all over the region competing in different age classes. This year’s version of the event took on an added significance, with the United States concurrently playing into the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Hundreds gathered to watch the team’s match against Ghana via a large screen set up on the beach near Garfield Ave. on Saturday morning. (Alas, the national team fell 2-1 in an extra time thriller, and was eliminated from the competition.) Another sign of World Cup fever - for better or worse - was the droning buzz of thousands of vuvuzelas, which were being sold on the Boardwalk. The long plastic horns have become topical due to their popularity at the games in South Africa. Will they be packed away along with the soccer balls... or are we in for a summer-long trend here in the Wildwoods?
Convention Center’s illuminated tower dedicated The Wildwoods Convention Center will held a lighting ceremony last Friday evening for the newly-installed “Doo Wop” light sculpture installed inside the glowing glass tower above the building’s main entrance. According to a press release, the sculpture “utilizes vibrant colors and fantastic shapes influenced by the Wildwoods’ Doo Wop architecture to personify what the Wildwoods is all about – pure sensory overload!” Designed by renowned New Jersey artist Chris Freeman, the lighted tower is part of New Jersey’s Arts Inclusion Program and is Phase II of III of the Wildwoods Convention Center’s arts package project.
Smack Daddy’s makes its debut A new family restaurant in North Wildwood celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last Thursday afternoon. Smack Daddy’s - located at 511 E. 17th Ave.(less than 100 steps from the Boardwalk) - offers seasonal fare, from seafood to burgers, in “tropical island” setting. Owned and operated by Laura and Eric Van Valck, it is now open daily from breakfast to dinner.

By: Al Alven New marbles tournament champions crowned One of the great, longstanding traditions in the Wildwoods continued last week when the island played host to the 87th Annual National Marbles Tournament. The heat of an unseasonably sweltering June was not enough to keep crowds from gathering on the Boardwalk and beach at Wildwood Avenue, to watch “mibsters” from all over the country compete. In the end, 14-year-old Corey Gollsby from Tennessee was crowned king as the champion marbles shooter of the boys division. Penelope Bauer, a 13-year-old from the Pittsburgh area, dominated the girls division to earn the honor of queen. The tournament’s history dates back to 1923, when the first nationally-recognized marbles competition was held in Atlantic City. It has also been hosted by Ocean City, Asbury Park, and Cleveland, Ohio over the years. Since 1960, Wildwood has been the exclusive home to the tournament - with the exception of the bicentennial year of 1976, when it was held at Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. Memorabilia from past tournaments is on display at the recently-renovated National Marbles Hall of Fame, located at the George F. Boyer Museum (home of the Wildwood Historical Society) at 3907 Pacific Ave. Vacation Photos This week’s photographic gem was sent in by Jennifer Kincade Uselton, who shares with us the very roots of her family’s love for the Wildwoods. Jennifer’s grandfather, Thomas Gilson, was a lifeguard at Holly Beach from 1947-1952. It was there that he met his eventual bride, Eugenia Goldate Gilson... Here are Thomas and Eugenia at Holly Beach in the late 1940s. Not only did Thomas play football at the University of Pennsylvania, he also served as District Attorney in Philly for 23 years. And, Eugenia was a model for Philco! 5 Mile Beach Trivia Kelly’s Cafe at Atlantic & Montgomery is one of the oldest continually-operated establishments on the island. The bar/restaurant’s famous green-lettered neon sign and giant leprechaun have been welcomed landmarks for generations of patrons, locals and vacationers alike. While the main building dates back many years, Kelly’s outdoor patio at the southern end of the property is a fairly recent addition. Can you name the longtime institution that it replaced (along with the current parking lot at the corner of Atlantic & Davis)? We’ll have the answer here next week. Last week, we asked how many of the famous Hunt’s movie theaters you could name. The best known in the Wildwoods are/were: * Blaker Theater @ Boardwalk & Cedar (demolished) * Casino Theater @ Atlantic & Cedar (demolished) * Ocean Theater @ Boardwalk & Juniper (still standing, but no longer open) * Regent Theater @ Boardwalk & Garfield) (converted; now the Boardwalk Mall) * Shore Theater/Twins @ Atlantic & Schellenger (demolished) * Strand Theater @ Boardwalk & Maple (still in operation!)

Hall’s Air Duct
There was once this guy who liked to travel from pub to pub across the countryside. One day, he came up to a pub he had never heard of. He went inside and sat at the bar. “What’ll it be?” asked the bartender. “A beer thanks, but what’s that jar?” he said pointing up to a jar on the top shelve. “Well, anyone who can drink it wins the collected prize money, which stands at around $80 right now.” said the bartender. “What’s in it?” the man asked. “Used to be a spittoon, everyone spat in the thing as a joke and now were looking for a brave man.” The man looked around at all the people watching attentively, “No that’s a bit much for me I think.” Then suddenly people from in the pub started betting money on it. “Come on! Give it a go!” said people from the bar. Before the man knew it the bet had gone up to $500! The bartender brought the jar down from its shelve. People by then were yelling and chanting for the guy to do it. Then with consideration, “I’ll drink it!” said the man. Screams of encouragement came from all around. He unscrewed the top of the jar and picked it up off the bar. Everyone in the pub fell silent. The man lifted it to his mouth and started drinking it. The sight was horrible! People everywhere were looking at him drinking all the flem and couldn’t believe it. “Stop, its making me feel ill!” said one of the people in the bar. Then other people started yelling out, begging the man to stop, but he didn’t! “Don’t worry about the money, we’ll give it all to you, just stop drinking it!!!” came from the audience of patrons. But he didn’t stop! Finally, he had finished it, and dropped the jar onto the floor. People in the pub were vomiting and dizzy. One then came up to the man, “Why didn’t you stop, I said we would give you the money!” The man, green in the face looked up and said, “I couldn’t – it was all one piece!”

A man observed a woman in the grocery store with a three year old girl in her basket. As they passed the cookie section, the little girl asked for cookies and her mother told her, “No.” The little girl immediately began to whine and fuss, and the mother said quietly, “Now Monica, we just have half of the aisles left to go through - don’t be upset. It won’t be long now.” Soon, they came to the candy aisle and the little girl began to shout for candy. When told she couldn’t have any, she began to cry. The mother said, “There, there, Monica, don’t cry - only two more aisles to go and then we’ll be checking out.” When they got to the checkout stand, the little girl immediately began to clamor for gum and burst into a terrible tantrum upon discovering there’d be no gum purchased. The mother said serenely, “Monica, we’ll be through this check out stand in 5 minutes and then you can go home and have a nice nap.” The man followed them out to the parking lot and stopped the woman to compliment her. “I couldn’t help noticing how patient you were with little Monica,” he began. The mother replied, “I’m Monica - my little girl’s name is Tammy.”
18 THINGS NOT TO SAY TO A COP: 1. Hey, you must’a been doin’ about 125 mph to keep up with me! Good job! 2. Sorry, Officer, I didn’t realize my radar detector wasn’t plugged in. 3. I thought you had to be in relatively good physical condition to be a Police Officer. 4. Excuse me, but is “stick up” hyphenated? 5. Hi Officer, do you mind holding my beer while I find my driver’s license? 6. You know, I was going to be cop, but I decided to finish high school instead. 7. “Bad Cop! No Donut!” 8. I was trying to keep up with traffic. Yes, I know there are no other cars around, that’s how far I am behind the other cars. 9. You’re NOT gonna check the trunk, are you? 10. Didn’t I see you get your butt kicked last week on “COPS”? 11. I bet I could grab that gun before you finish writing my ticket. 12. So, uh, you “on the take” or what? 13. Gee, officer! That’s terrific. The police officer yesterday only gave me a warning too! 14. Do you know why you pulled me over? Good, at least one of us does. 15. So, are you still crabby because your mamma didn’t let you play with your gun when you were little? 16. Hey is that a 9 mm? That’s nothing compared to this .44 magnum.

The Girl Around Town By Natalie Cooper
On Saturday I went for a jog on the boardwalk, like I do three other days out of the week. I figure if I have to stay in shape—a goal I set for myself—the easiest way to do so would be to find some sort of enjoyment in it. So I run, and I run in places where I can relax and enjoy the surrounding and scenery. The boardwalk is my ideal, perfect place for a jog. I like weaving in and out of the crowds of people walking and people riding bikes. I like looking in at the stores as I move swiftly by and deciding that the next time I come up I’m going to buy that sweatshirt I always see in the window. And I like smelling the salty ocean breeze and looking out at the beaches. There’s something about running beside a beach that I can’t really explain. It’s like the water and the sand—the two combined—instantly relax you. It’s my favorite thing to look at. But this Saturday things were different when I went for my run on the boardwalk. I looked out at the beach and saw swarms of people, swarms at a ridiculously large size. I stopped and went over to the railing to see what was going on. I have to admit I was confused at first. I saw lines of people forming tiny rectangles all over the beach, and they seemed to have stretched for miles. I don’t think I have ever seen the beach that crowded, wondering what the rectangles were for. Then I saw nets at each end, and I saw little kids running around, five at a time, trying to pass the ball to each other and get it in the goal at the other end. It was the Beach Blast Soccer Tournament. I kind of hated myself at first for not realizing what the event was sooner, for I used to play in it when I was on my traveling soccer team back in grade school. And as much as I loved playing soccer on a regular field, playing on the beach was a completely different, and better, experience, and I looked forward to the tournament every year. There’s something about running on a beach that I can’t really explain. It’s like the water and the sand—the two combined—instantly relax you. Even if you are playing in a soccer game. But that’s what made the tournament so fun. I got to combine my favorite sport with my favorite place to make the ultimate exercising experience—and it was enjoyable. Every year my team anticipated the tournament. It was an event that we made special uniforms for, usually consisting of crazy, outrageous tie-dye shirts and matching socks. We looked forward to the Beach Blast because we got to play with only five players at a time, which meant we all got equal turns with the ball, and we got to play barefoot. And even though it would be smoldering hot most years, knowing that we could jump right in the ocean after our games was a treat. But perhaps the thing we liked the most about the Beach Blast Tournament was how it brought us closer together as a team. It was a bonding experience. We got to take part in something we all loved, and we got to do it together. And it didn’t matter who won or lost, which is now something that matters so much in sports these days, even when kids are young. It was more about fun. It was playing on the beach with your friends, going for a swim after, and then heading up to the boardwalk for a slice of pizza after all was said and done. When I looked over the railing on Saturday, seeing the kids laughing and smiling while they were kicking the ball around brought back all of those fond memories, some of which were memories that I’m going to remember throughout my life. I couldn’t tell you if my team won a single game, which I’m sure we did. But that’s not what I remember, and it’s not something I should remember. What I took away from the Beach Blast Soccer Tournament was friendship and fun and fitness, and how you can have all three at the same time.

A rich girl and a poor boy fall in love and decide to marry. The girl’s father is strongly against such a decision, but after a long argument, the daughter finally gets her way. The father agrees that the two can marry, but he insists on meeting the man before the date is set. His daughter agrees and invites her fiance over for dinner. Dinner goes well. Then, afterwards, the father invites his future son-in-law into the study. The father asks him what he does for a living, to which the boy replies, “I am a religious man; I study the Testaments.” The father then asks, “How are you going to support my daughter’s high living standard.” The boy replies, “I will study, and God will provide.” The father, now losing his patience asks, “How will you afford a nice place to live?” The boy again replies, “I will study, and God will provide.” For over an hour, the questioning continued and the same answers were heard, “I will study, and God will provide.” The interrogation finally ends. The happy couple express their thanks for the lovely meal, and then leave. Later in the evening, the wife asks her husband how his discussion with their daughter’s boyfriend went. The father replies, “Well, there’s good news and bad news. The bad news is that the boy has no job, no money, and no chance of ever providing for our daughter.”The mother then says, “Certainly there must be some good news!” The father replies, “The boy thinks I’m God.”
