Interpreting individual pupil records

CEM IBE The American International School of Johannesburg Individual Pupil (Student) Record Sheets The Individual Pupil Record (IPR) sheets contain information on the scores obtained in the alternative CEM IBE baseline test - (the Adaptive Test or the TDA). The sheets contain information on each section of the test, as well as the overall score. The sheets also present standardised scores to enable comparisons between the different sections to be made. The scores are presented in the following formats: 路

Raw Scores (TDA Only) The results for each section are presented as a total number of correct answers out of the total number possible. Thus a score given as 20 / 35 represents 20 correctly answered questions from a total of 35. The overall TDA result is expressed as a percentage, and it is this score that is used in predictions and subsequent value-added analysis.

Standardised Scores (TDA and Adaptive Test) The scores for each section have been standardised. That is to say that the scores have been adjusted so that each section of the test (as well as the overall score) has a population mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. Thus a score of 100 means average performance, greater than 100 means higher than average performance and less than 100 is lower than average. Assuming that the distribution of scores is 'Normal' this means that: 68 % of scores nationally lie between 85 and 115 95 % of scores nationally lie between 70 and 130 99.7 % of scores nationally lie between 55 and 145

Band (TDA and Adaptive Test) Each score has been assigned a Band from A (highest performance) to D (lowest performance). The bands have been constructed from quartiles, thus each band contains 25% (one quarter) of students nationally who sat that component of the test. Band A represents the top 25% of students, Band D the bottom 25% with Bands B & C in between. over...........

Stanine (TDA and Adaptive Test) Each score has been assigned a Stanine. Stanine stands for 'Standard of Nine' and is a statistical term that describes how a 'Normal' distribution is divided into nine sections. Each section represents half a standard deviation, with section five being centered on the mean. Each section (stanine) will contain a different percentage of students, as illustrated below.

Percentile (TDA and Adaptive Test) Each score has been allocated a percentile. A student's percentile gives the percentage of students nationally who scored less than this student. For example, a standardised score of 108 falls into percentile70, thus 70% of students achieved a standardised score lower than 108.

The standardised scores are also shown graphically, complete with a 95% confidence limit for each score. This graph may act as an aid to the identification of strengths and weaknesses in your student's performance in the test.
