All the proceeds from this catalogue go towards continuing the work of The Salvation Army. But what is it the Salvation Army do? The Salvation Army is one of the largest, most diverse providers of social services in the UK after the Government. Founded in East London in 1865, we are now working in 111 countries worldwide. We have over 1.6 million members, with programmes including homeless centres, drug rehabilitation centres, schools, hospitals and medical centres, as well as nearly 16,000 church and community centres.
The work of The Salvation Army is funded through donations from its members, the general public and, where appropriate, local authority and government grants. Local Salvation Army church and community centres offer a range of activities and services within their local communities. People can become involved in all sorts of ways, through volunteering with fundraising initiatives, attending church services and helping with local activities. The Salvation Army also supports the work of the emergency services by providing refreshments, shelter and counselling at major incidents. Recently this has included the 7th July London bombings, the devastating hurricanes in Southern USA, and the severe floods in Carlisle and Boscastle.

One of the poorest countries in the world in Moldova. Our production units in Moldova are very small but the workforce is very creative and loves to use imagination in the deign of their products. Through Sally Ann Moldova our workers have been able to improve the quality of their family’s lives, for example by earning enough income to buy washing machines and pay for extra schooling for their grandchildren. Self respect for a Kenyan is vitally important. Our supplier in Kenya has a small production unit on the outskirts of Nairobi and by providing employment opportunities for them they have been able to rise above the ‘dollar a day’ coast of living. Using banana leaf fibres, beads, wire and initiative our crafters are constantly looking for more ways of enhancing their skills to meet the veracious appetite of the changing shopping habits of the western consumer.

Our newest supplier is a small Salvation Army project in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Our staff here are on a rehabilitation programme and recycled coffee filter papers from their neighbourhood coffee houses to develop a beautiful and original wide range of stationary items.
