VIDEO & SOUND
Video + Sound invites you into an expansive investigation of moving image and audio culture.
Video and Sound are among the most pervasive forms of communication in today’s society. We are immersed in video and sound media, from video channels and image feeds to podcasts and streaming services. As artists and designers, effectively communicating using video and sound has taken on increasing importance. Our program combines a grounding in the history of the moving image and sonic arts with a spirit of experimentation in the use of cutting-edge tools. By absorbing the language of cinema so it may be applied to 21st century imagemaking, students are encouraged to develop their own contemporary voice.
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
BEN GLAS, ’17
Ben Glas is an experiential composer based in Berlin. Through ephemeral compositions Glas’ work questions preconceived notions between the acts of passive hearing and active listening. In seeking to discover open ended forms of music and pragmatic listening perspectives, Glas’ compositions focus on the realms of subjective perception and cognition, via the use of acoustics, psychoacoustics and space as tools for sonic composition. He is currently receiving his MA in Sonic Studies at the UK.
