Freestanding typology outside of the city centre

Needs wide space around the building reserved for car parking.

Typology got created from urban imagination of mountain villages. Its not a outcome of local culture.

Ski Resort Typology

Freestanding typology mostly close to touristic facilities

Autonomous building which does not integrate into urban life

Accommodates a high amount of people therefore need of high amount of parking spaces

Problems Bormio - Loss of Morphology -

Historical Morphology

Buildings are arranged along the street and are perceived as a block.

-

Expansion Morphology

Touristic accommodation typologies of the years of expansion need more space surrounding the single building. Therefore they are perceived as a single standing buildings.

Intervention Bormio - Creating transitional typology

Intervention Bormio - Creating transitional typology -

Chalet typologies did not respect historical orientation

-

Spatial problems arise in bordering area between different typologies

-

Additions to existing buildings could solve orientational problems

Intervention Bormio - Creating transitional typology -

Possibility to revalue the architecture of the booming years.

-

Make residential buildings functional in the urban context

-

Rise the identy of the city through modern interpretation of traditonal typologies.

Intervention Bormio - Creating building guidelines

Guidelines Contemporary reading of the typology and materials Heavier base, lighter upper portions. Concrete and local wood. Differentiation according to the use of the space Public areas in stone or concrete; private, residential spaces were to be built in wood. Wood arrangements according to the destination of spaces. Height of the buildings Maintain linearity - revailing height should be of the 3 floors, but varying accordingly with the existing block in which the building is.

Conclusion - Discussing BID

Use the Olympic Games as an opportunity to improve quality of urban environment.

Use touristic accommodations to increase the quality of the city, to ensure the future of touristic activities in the city.

Rethinking the proposed relationship with temporary and permanent work for the Olympic games: what is more adequate in each situation
