VISIONS FOR CANBERRA REINTERPRETING RUSSELL
ISSUES
• Griffin’s functional concept was only partly implemented. • Lack of connections between areas along Constitution Avenue and the green spaces along the lake. • Abundant parking areas have made an urban desert.
OBJECTIVES
• Reinstalling Griffin’s concept for Russell. • Connecting activities between Russell and surrounding green spaces. • Creating vibrant urban spaces at Russell. • Civilizing traffic thoroughfare (Parkes Way).
STRATEGIES
• Integrating a light rail route running trough the middle of Russell into the promenade used as a main axis of the area. • Proposing the boardwalk going through the Jerrabomberra wetlands as a reinstatement of Griffin’s causeway. • A series of open spaces along Parkes Way make a connection between Russell and Kings Park. • Implementing a major transformation of the transport structure (suppressing Parkes Way and simplifying the Flyover).

GLAMOUR MARGHERA PUNTA DELLA MARGHERA
This site is reminiscent of the Punta della Dogana in terms of the triangular shape and the function as the entrance to Venice.Punta della Dogana was the Custom’s House of the Venetian Republic and was the first stop for foreign ships where theywere taxed. The prominent location of the Punta della Dogana has made it a symbolof Venice. The proposed scheme makesthe point of the triangular site at Porto Marghera the most important part of the new urban precinct hence the title “Puntadella Marghera. This design preserves the existing road system and partof the original factories and warehouses. In the west ofthe site, a residential area with recreation and education infrastructures adapted by warehouses is proposed. Avibrant water front as well as an accommodation area for tourists and students is designed for the west of the site. At the point of the triangular site, we decide to puta recreation center and a public open space in order to shift the site from an industrial area to a new city.
Accessibilities
Existing & Preserved Buildings Transport system
The objectives of our design are: • To activate the abandoned industrial area Porto Marghera; • To strengthen the connections between Venice, Porto Marghera, Marghera, Mestre and existing green spaces; • To make new Punta della Marghera a mix- use area; • To build a place which satisfies the people who live or work here, as well as tourists; • To service and supply the cruises ships with a new terminal; • To make full use of the industrial remnants in Porto Marghera;

The site of the Terminal-Commercial complex in the west is chosen as the individual project site. In this site, a newly built cruise ship terminal combined with the adaptive reused commercial center which used to be factories and warehouses was proposed in the group work. The main focus point of this site is not only the architectural design for the complex, but also the connection between the waterfront and the park. The shape of the mega-structure along the waterfront is decided by the function inside and outside, aims to create open spaces that surrounded by buildings according to the tradition of the Italian culture. When there is no ship parking at the terminal, the waterfront area is opened and the building has become an obstructive between the park and the waterfront area, which has a beautiful view towards the lagoon and the industrial skyline on the opposite side. Therefore, considering about how to connect these two areas has become the main issue of the design. In the terminal design, a series of void decks on the ground floor opening to the park and the waterfront, as well as continuous roof garden are proposed.

Preserving Strategy
Using the Vanke Center as the precident, which is known as the “Horizontal Sykscraper .The Complex will use raised ground floor structure as the newly built terminal structure and preserve the existing industrial structure, turn it into a commercial center. At the same time, the space in the site can remind people from the urban pattern in the Venice--Piazza, Campo, Fondamenta, Calle, Sotoportego...
