Constant criticism, humiliation, hurtful words, abusive partner, or a violent family member. Dealing with the reality of domestic violence is way too difficult. Sometimes, it is unbearable and emotionally draining. The overall impact can dramatically affect one’s quality of life. This is the reason it is not okay to ignore this topic. Grim Statistics In the United States, women are more likely to be victims of intimate partner violence. For every 9 seconds, statistics show that there’s one who is beaten or assaulted. Many women suffer from physical, emotional, and financial abuse. By far, about 85 percent of victims are women, while men are only 15 percent. Sometimes, the horrible situations of women do not just happen in the four walls of their homes. Every day, women are being murdered by their current or former male partner. According to many studies, domestic violence is not a one-time incident. Several researchers claim it is a problem deeply rooted in culture. Regardless of race, income, ethnicity or other factors, abuse can happen to anyone. These shocking statistics remind people that domestic violence is a frightening issue. It is a big deal, which is why it is easy to accuse someone innocent. Even if it’s a false allegation, the person accused may have difficulty gaining the desired freedom or saving their career and relationships. False Allegations Domestic violence is one of the most serious crimes, which can severely damage a person’s reputation if wrongly accused. Not all reported cases of abuse aretrue, as there are rare instances where there are false claims. To protect the reputation and freedom, the accused must be assured ofa fair trial. An arrest for domestic violence can significantly affect a person’s life, whether the job security will crumble or a lucrative business will vanish. Fortunately, any crime has a way to challenge charges. The most important step to take is to get legal help. This is necessary to ensure that both the plaintiff and the defendant receive a fair legal process.
