Plans for new Camberwell Boxpark
Foodies and bearded hipsters rejoice. Exciting plans for a new shopping and dining district – a ‘Camberwell Boxpark’ made from shipping containers are being put forward in this corner of South East London.

Rolfe Judd, the planning firm behind the proposal for this Camberwell Boxparkstyle attraction, has likened ‘Camberwell Yards’ to the fashionable Boxparks in Shoreditch and Croyden.
Fourteen shipping container units are proposed, to be built around a central community area. Some will be dedicated to food and drink, others to local retailers and one for community use. Developers have also muted that the central area have flexible uses, perhaps a pop-up cinema or other temporary entertainment. Chris Horn, a planning consultant working on the project, told Southwark News: “In terms of what’s on offer, we want there to be space for community use, and we want the shops and any food sellers to be independent and affordable and for it to have a bit of a buzz. “We would like to get a planning application in by early autumn, and if that’s successful we could start building and have it finished in time for summer next year.” Much like the shipping container restaurants and bars to be found in Pop Brixton, these have helped put these well-trodden areas on the property map, drawing in diners and buyers in their droves. Could this ‘Camberwell Boxpark’ be the much needed foodie injection for this fantastic, and often overlooked, part of South East London? Watch this space.
