South London places we love: Camberwell
We love Camberwell In the mid-nineteenth century, Camberwell and Denmark Hill were the go-to destinations for tired Londoners seeking the healing powers of the area’s famous mineral springs. Today, the area is a wonderful mix of busy shopping streets, unique modern and period properties, leafy parks and a growing selection of bars, cafes and restaurants. As we’re based on Denmark Hill we may be a tad biased, but we think Camberwell is one of the best parts of South London.
Theo’s Pizza and the Hill Street Bakery on Grove Lane, Camberwell
We really love Camberwell’s food Where this neighbourhood really stands out is the fantastic food on offer. On Camberwell Church Street alone there’s the new bottle shop and meat bar Nape, bargain-tastic falafel and shawarma at Falafel & Shawarma, punchy Xinjiang specialities at Silk Road, London’s best kebabs at FM Mangal, inventive British cooking at the Camberwell Arms, and smoky charcoal grilled deliciousness at Queen’s. Great coffee is available at Daily Goods and the Lumberjack. And just around the corner on Grove Lane you’ll find some of London’s best pizzas at Theo’s, superlative sourdough at the Hill Bakery, and great roasts (and more!) at the Crooked Well. The Pigeon Hole Café on Datchelor Place, Nandine on Vestry Road, and No 67 at the South London Gallery are other lovely spots to while away an hour or so.
And we love to share the love Feeling hungry yet? There’s loads more! Camberwell is one of South East London’s most exciting neighbourhoods, and it’s a brilliant place to live.
