“La Calera” House Universidad de los Andes. Instructor: Fernando de la Carrera

‘La Calera’ House is a single family house ubicated in the urban area of La Calera in the outskirts of Bogota. This house tried to reflect over the way humans relate to nature. Most of the house is common and shared open spaces and green roofs. This house wants to act as a medium in the relationship of nature and the human being, protecting people from the nature harms but letting them enjoy nature and connect with our inner animals.

Learning and Playing Within the Void Space. GSAPP. Columbia University in the City of New York Instructor: Emanuel Admassu. TA: Britt Johnson Introduction to Architecture is a summer program at GSAPP Columbia University with the purpose of familiarizing students of all skill levels with different aspects of design, history and theory and practice of architecture. We studied different rock formations in the city of New York. the way to approach and learn about the site we were to Invent an analytical drawing language to identify a specific ‘Urban Element’ within the site, in this case, Urban Voids and levels of Infestation. After developing our analytical drawing we were to propose a temporary event on the Site. Always going back and forth between the design and the analytical drawing I came up with a temporary daycare wich main purpose was for kids to play and learn about nature and the rocks themselves.

Analytical Drawing. Every layer of information noted a specific aspect of the site, such as density of vegetation, levels of infestation, materiality, and slope. By crossing the various layers you could differentiate types of voids which repeated all over the site. The architectural actions were different on every type of urban void, whatever it was to touch the site, look at it or stand over it. The building came by crossing the needs of the daycare with the characteristics of every void.

Tying up the courtyard: A housing project on 57th street. Universidad de los Andes Instructors: Leonardo Álarez and Carolina Blanco Thesis project. The idea of this project was to think about the effects of the insertion of a highly, intrusive, massive, transportation system as the metro over a highly constituted neighborhood as it is Chapinero, in Bogota. This project was looking to reflect over the way the city has been consolidated and propose a new way to group housing units around a shared common space, and the consequences and benefits this could bring. I looked especially the example of Le Corbusier’s ‘unite d’habitation’, and different examples of grouping habitats and creating a sense of community, which was lost in this neighbourhood and was the main reason why it was so devastated.

Boundaries: Searching for a design process Public space as the main idea of the project. Surrounding public space should be understood and utilized as a fundamental item to be integrated in the project.

The movement and flux of activities surrounding the site should be exploited inside the project, moreover if necessary, the project should create new movement and activities from within the architectural actions.

Parque la Colina Diana Wiesner

Project team: Diana Wiesner, Bernardita Angermeyer, Diana Salazar, Christian Alonso. Input: landscape design, execution of plans and sections, 3D modeling, project detailing. “La Colina park� was born as a private-funded project to create a space in between a new mall and the community next to it. Fully equipped with different kinds of games and spaces directly designed for the diverse community and their needs for unique open urban space. The difficulty of this project was fulfilling the needs of the community but also delivering a space appropriate for the mall who funded it. The idea of this project was not to merely provide a green open space for the mall, but to really assist the needs of the community and provide spaces where people from al ages can play, rest and live, also creating a sense of community and self-appropriation of the park. The park counts with special equipment such as children’s games, water fountains and different kinds of vegetation, making this park a landmark in the community.

internship Centro cívico universitario El Equipo Mazzanti. Project team: Giancarlo Mazzanti, Eugenia Concha, Iván Samaniego, Juana Salcedo Input: architectural design, execution of plans and sections, 3D modeling, post production, diagram execution. In 2016, “La Universidad de Los Andes” called for a closed competition to develop its next building, according to its campus development plan as well for the well-being of its students. The main idea of this project was to develop a building which adapted to the complex topography of the site creating a chain of green and open spaces integrating the urban life surrounding it and the day to day activities of the campus. Also, create a platform in which the city could extend “invading” the campus and creating a fully open space where people living in the surrounding neighbourhoods could use even when the campus is closed. As an intern, my main task was to support the project in all its stages, from the architectural development to the execution of architectural drawings, models, and post production.

The project joins the main paths of the city from east-west and forms the urban paths towards the main plaza proposed, the context, the partial plan “ Triangulo de Fenicia” connecting the neighbourhood “Las Aguas” and both universities north - south AVENIDA JIMÉNEZ

The platform articulates the programmatic N -0.00 needs of the university with the creation which its main purpose is the extension of the public N -4.00 realm. All the urban activities such as the theatre, retail, library and the university itself make the urban space something full of life and human activity 24/7, promoting the public use of this space even when the campus is closed.
