Lamy Pens – Delving into the History of the Pens that Wrote History! Lamy pens stand for exceptional quality, innovation, and modern design and have been winning millions of hearts since 1966. The brand has come a long way from an independent, familyowned writing implement firm in Heidelberg to a market leader that promises “No design writes better.” Over the years, Lamy has been continuously innovating to master the art of creating the best pens available in the market today. 1930…The Journey Begins The history of Lamy fountain pens dates back to 1930 when C. Josef Lamy set up his business – the Orthos Füllfederhalter-Fabrik – in Heidelberg. Earlier, he worked as a branch manager and export professional for a writing instruments company and had vast experience in the field. His vision, dedication, and passion towards fountain pens clearly reflected during the onset of the Second World War, when the young company manufactured over 200,000 pens of the ARTUS and ORTHOS brands in 1939. It was only in 1948, three years after the end of the Second World War that the name of the Heidelberg enterprise was changed to C. Josef Lamy GMbH. 1952…The Birth of Lamy Pens The year 1952 saw the dawn of Lamy 27, a streamlined fountain pen with a revolutionary “Tintomatik” system that ensures a clean and smooth flow of ink when writing. It was the enterprise’s breakthrough in the American market. Under the leadership of Dr. Manfred Lamy, the son of C. Josef Lamy, the company evolved as a premier design brand in the field of high-quality writing instruments. There was no looking back after that.

In 1964, the company launched LAMYexact, first ballpoint pen variety in Germany, with a stainless steel tip and huge-capacity refill. With this, Lamy succeeded in establishing the brand for exceptional ball pens. 1966 saw the birth of the famous Lamy 2000 – timeless, unique, and with “more than 30 years of classic modernity.” The year 1974 witnessed the first-of-its-kind Lamy pens with a functional design, which became successful to a new target group. In 1982, C. Josef Lamy GmbH launched Lamy white pens that became the first white-coloured writing instrument in the world and the most copied one too. Every year continued to celebrate the success of Lamy design, bringing in new and innovative pens that inspire writing. Today, Lamy is a pioneer of manufacturing brand-name writing instruments. The highest standards of material, technology, and processing are evident in all Lamy products, ensuring the best value for money.
