TA K E O N E

Welcome from our Chairman As your Club Chairman it gives me great pleasure to be able to keep you up to date with what has been happening at Yarraville Club over the past few months. The Board of Directors along with Chris Byrne, are proud of how the Club has worked closely with Communities in providing assistance to other Clubs and organisations that need our support. For the financial year ended 30th June, 2016, the Yarraville Club provided community support to many community, educational and sporting groups. The total value of our support for this period was $255,250. This support reflects the ethos of the club and is something that the Board of Directors are proud of. It is only possible to provide this community support if our club is profitable. Recently, I was lucky enough to represent the Club at the recent Seddon Branch of the Bendigo Bank’s Community Pitch night that was held in our function room. Local businesses donated $21,550.00 on the night. Yarraville Club contributed $5000 to this event which is designed to help local community groups achieve successful outcomes in our community.

I will update members in more detail on our financial performance for the year ended 30 June, 2016 in the Annual Report, however, the Club made an operating profit of $1.434 million before provisions and finance costs and a nett profit of $161,180 was realised. I am proud that the club continues to trade profitably, and I thank our General Manager, Chris Byrne and his team for the continued hard work they provide to ensure our Club remains strong. The Board of Directors under my guidance, continue to work on the Strategic Vision and Master Plan of the Club to ensure we continue to be an integral part of the local community and remain relevant to our membership. You will have noticed over the past few months, upgrades have commenced to the reception & foyer areas of the Club. We are planning to expand further expand these upgrades to include new and exciting facilities for Members and guests. I will be able to provide more information on these changes at the Annual General Meeting. I would also like to remind and invite all our Financial Members to the Annual General Meeting which will be held on Sunday 27th November at 11.00am at the Club. We will provide light refreshments and drinks following the meeting, and invite you all to discuss Club matters with the Board, management and staff. I look forward to chatting with you next time you are at the Club. Yours sincerely.

Footy Tipping Winner & Grand Final News

Foyer Upgrade

Following on from renovations that were completed in January this year, Members will have noticed the fresh look our foyer area has recently under-gone. In the coming months, the Club plans to continue with upgrades to make improvements that all Members can enjoy in comfort all year round.

Congratulations to Michelle, Kenn, Mick & Bill and a big thanks to everyone who participated in the competition this year.

Well Done Western Bulldogs!!

Congratulations also must go to the incredible Western Bulldogs for generating the most excitement a Grand Final has seen in a very long time. Both the Bulldogs and the Sydney Swans put up a great fight and in the end it was the mighty Bulldogs that toughed it out to win their first flag in 62 years, to the delight of all fans and supporters alike.

BILLARDS / SNOOKER The 2016 Australian National and Open Billiards Championships was held at the Yarraville Club in June and was a huge success. With an all-time record field of 48 players in the National Championship, the Yarraville Club is nationally recognised as the home of Billiards in Australia. Well done to Matthew Bolton, WA, who completely dominated the finals of both events to add to his already impressive list of achievements. Matthew made the tournament high break of 526. The 2016 Lance Pannell Classic snooker was run for the 30th consecutive year, making it one of the longest running Australian cue-sports events. This year the final was won by the ever popular Shawn Budd, SA, who defeated Victoria’s James Mifsud in the final.

COMMUNITY

YARRAVILLE

Seddon Community Bank 2016 Community Pitch The Community Pitch Night was held at Yarraville Club on 11th May 2016 and it was once again a huge success. This great initiative helps local Communities in need of funds. The Pitch Partners involved this year, returned a massive $21,550.00 to local community. As a result of this Yarraville Club also has become involved with Yarraville Community Centre. At their Blackwood Street Neighbourhood House, they have developed a community vegetable garden, that enables participants with a disability to participate in the planting and looking after the garden. On a recent visit to the centre, Chris Byrne met with the organisers and the groups that were there on the day tending to the plants. With the assistance of Chris Byrne and Yarraville Club, they will now be able to install an automated irrigation system that uses the roof run-off stored in a tank to water the garden beds over summer.

Footscray West Primary School Outing As part of Yarraville Club’s commitment to helping the Community, during the year Footscray West Primary School took students out for the day to visit another primary school for a music performance.

St Augustine’s School Reunion This year the Ladies held their 11th Year Reunion and a great time was had by all.

This is a great initiative by Brendan Miller and his team and Yarraville Club are thrilled to be able to assist with the use of our Community Bus.

FREE ZUMBA The Barefoot Investor meetings continue to attract groups who are interested in learning about all things money including property stocks and finance. The relaxed environment helps everyone to enjoy an afternoon sharing advice and knowledge over some good food and a few drinks. All Club Members are welcome. A lunch is being held for all the groups that have been along during the year at the Yarraville Club.

Jen our Zumba Queen has developed quite a following with her classes that are held every Tuesday at 11.30am at the Club. With summer almost here, what a great way to get in shape and also a fantastic way to meet new friends whilst getting fit.

The entertainment provided by Yarraville Laughs & Yarraville Live shows during the year, was once again successful in attracting a large number of people to enjoy the shows that were on offer. One of Australia’s most enduring singers, Russell Morris treated the crowd to a night of great blues, jazz and old favourites back in April. Back To Black – The Amy Winehouse Show paid tribute to the great songstress. Performed superbly by Atlanta Coogan, the crowd were treated to a journey through Amy Winehouse’s life with classics performed including Valerie, Rehab and Back To Black. Yarraville Laughs continued it’s top-notch comedy line-ups with Denise Scott, Libbi Gorr and Geraldine Hickey all performing to a sell-out crowd. The comedy was brilliant and it proves again the amazing array of talent that Yarraville Laughs are able to secure to the New West of Comedy. The Yarraville Live music just got better with a Prince Tribute in August with the room flooded with purple balloons to celebrate the life of the amazing artist that Prince was. Yarraville Laughs hosted Titus O’Reily Live show in September, which completely sold out. The crowd laughed out loud at his hilarious and satirical take on all things AFL and sport in general. Titus was joined on stage by his mate Sergio Paradise, and they put on a great show. No better way to spend a Friday night at the Yarraville Club with such talented performers to lead you into the Footy Finals.

One of our favourite stars returned to Yarraville Laughs this year with a one-off sold out performance – Michael Winslow – the Man with 10,000 voices did not fail to deliver to his adoring audience. With a meet and greet that lasted over an hour, the fans were delighted to be able to meet the and chat to Michael who can only be described as a great talent and an even greater gentleman. Club

Yarraville Live were extremely proud to have one-off local supergroup, Ashley Naylor & The Diamond Dogs performing Bowie classics live on September 25. Inspired by David Bowie and his music, Ashley and a hand-selected one off super-group of local original artists got together on one special night to celebrate the music and the inspiration of Bowie. The night was amazing and the band did Bowie proud singing hits such as Space Oddity, Let’s Dance, Young Americans and many more. This is a night that Bowie fans will remember for a very long time. And thanks to the ever-super DJ Max Crawdaddy who kept the love going spinning more classics. Thank you to James Young & Mark Burchett for bringing one of the best shows to Yarraville Club this year.
