Editor’s Letter Welcome to our Fall issue. I am very excited to make it to our second issue. I feel so fortunate to have had such a great reaction from our first issue, and we definitely wanted to go bigger for our second issue. One noticeable thing is the size of the mag. This issue has a lot more editorials than our first issue did. We wanted the fall issue to be big and feature many new talented photographers as well as industry professionals. We have amazing Swedish Photographer Josefine Jönsson who shot the cover of the magazine. Her work is amazing and we feel so proud to have her in our Fall issue. Our back cover is illustrated by Japanese Artist Otokonokoto. This newcomer draws gay men in fun and clean settings. Otokonokoto drew the back cover illustrator specially for Kirameki Mag and we love it! Fall is coming and even though I live in FL, which is summer 9 months out of the year, I am still excited to fall fashion and sweater weather. So much has been happening in the Kirameki Offices and we feel like Fall is bringing a new change for us. After this issue we will move towards themed issues and themed submissions. Every issue will have a different theme and look but still keep the same essence that is becoming a staple of our look. I for one am going through a transition in life, work life, school life, love life. Everything moves so quickly and time passes very swiftly. I am glad to have this magazine to keep me grounded and busy even with all the changes in my life and all the things I am already juggling. I love your support and encouragement. I love reading online how much people enjoyed the debut issue. I do hope all of you enjoy the Fall issue has much as you did the first, if not more!
Until we meet again,

v Interview with Kat Kalashniko miss voltage

I
n a room full of pretty models, you’ll always notice Kat Kalashnikov first. She’s a walking working of art every day. Not just because of her tattoos, but because her entire look is so unique. In photos she is a subject who refuses to be ignored. From taboo beginnings to gracing magazine
covers, Kat has had a crazy interesting career. In her bedroom she shares with us some of her stories about fetish performances and explains her usage of religion in her work.
How did you get started with modeling? I started modeling originally with fetish shows. I didn’t really get out much, didn’t really do anything and my friends were like “Come on you have to go to this fetish show.” and I was just a really quiet girl [at the time]. I mean all throughout high school I didn’t talk to anybody and it just wasn’t like me at all. So I go and by the end of the night I started working for the company. It took me about a year and a half of doing grunt work before they let me do performances and that’s what I was into. I went from being quiet to being this crazy fetish performer on stage and I did fucked up shit. Like I cut myself on stage, I bled on bitches, I had this obsession with pig masks. I had all of my subs wear pig masks. Just really weird stuff. That’s insane! Ha ha, I used sledge hammers for props, dog cages, I mean I really wanted to do aesthetically pleasing stuff and that’s kind of how I deviated from performing to modeling. They came up and said “We want to start shooting you for the flyers for your own shows.” And I started having all these ideas and thus other photographers came to me. So originally I was just this fetish model just in this nasty, hardcore modeling. And growing up I had
heard of modeling because my mom was a model when she was young and she modeled for the air line when she was a flight attendant so it was already kind of something that I was around. I started to notice that I’m agency standard so I can go from fetish modeling to doing anything and why not? You know, I wasn’t going to let my tattoos hinder me. So I had this mission that I still am currently doing today and that’s kind of how I got started in modeling. What kind of model would you consider yourself now? I wouldn’t consider myself an alt model. When people ask, I tell them “A real life model.” Like because I can do everything, but because I’m tattooed I’m a bit more of, I wanna say ‘behind the scenes’, like the real world. You know, I’m gritty, I’m honest, I’m blunt and I let that kind of harshness show in my modeling. A lot of your work displays a lot of religious figures and symbols. What kind of message are you trying to convey if any? Well the first reason that I have a lot of religious symbols is the way I was raised. I was raised Roman Catholic. I went to Roman Catholic school so these symbols played a big deal in
P00011
my life. Then when I was about in 8th grade I started to search for other religions and I grew very attached to the idea of The Virgin Mary and catholic symbology being almost a cult in nature to other people. I play around a lot with that because I didn’t realize until I went to other churches [that] they sometimes consider Catholicism to be a cult. And I just found that wild and cool. The second part of it is that I kind of have this thought process that it’s all relative. If you raised a child and you told them that God was Satan and Satan was God, they’d grow up not really knowing what’s in a name. You know, ‘a rose by any other name’. So I just don’t think it’s a big deal, I think in the [grand] scheme of things the world matters more than all these gods and maybe there is a bunch of them and one of them has stock in me and I just don’t know which one. For all I know, it could be a demon, but whatever, the demon’s still the one in charge of looking after me and they’re doing a good job. I guess I try to get people to appreciate the art of religion. What are your plans for after your modeling career? Do you have any? Yes, I would like to work on clothes and I think I would thoroughly enjoy being an art director. I think that’s something I could do for the rest of my life is set up shoots and style them and just be behind the scenes. I also would like to be a fashion journalist, I’m really interested in fashion. I’m [also] writing an autobiography that I’m
P00012
working on that will hopefully be out in about a year and a half. That’s mostly a biography of being a fetish model and being in the alternative scene. You know, scene politics is something that is universal and it interests me and they’ve used particular scenes already. They’ve used rich people, The Hills, stuff like that. They haven’t really undertook being an alternative person and our weird scene politics, but we do have them. I think it would be really interesting so I want to use my autobiography as kind of a way to talk about, you know, not necessarily the fetish world because most fetish shows and performers at events aren’t really fetish people. The ‘fetish’ fetish people are completely different from the pretty, alternative people that are trying to be fetish. I don’t know how many fetish performers are really burlesque girls that are absolutely afraid of meeting the full-on gimp suit guys. I was at a fetish show once and it was a runway show as well and all the pretty little latex models stayed in the back because they were afraid of all the fetish people roaming around. And I was like “You guys aren’t even into fetish! You just pretend to be so you can do this gig!” Or I’d watch fetish shows and it’s a bunch of girls making out with each other. Some latex, some lube, some melted candle wax, boring stuff. I’m [thinking] wait until you see the real gigs! I branded myself with a crucifix on stage, I really was into it. But like I said, I feel like all these cookie cutter types eventually, eventually people will get tired of it. I have a lot of kind of ‘qualms’ with a couple of things. Certain magazines where the covers are the same 5 models over and over. [They’re] supposed to be so awesome and cool,
“If you raised a child and you told them that God was Satan and Satan was God, they’d grow up not really knowing what’s in a name. ”
P00013

P00014
but what are they? The same thing over and over. And they’re great, I’m glad they got to that point, but do something new. Something really fetish. I would like to see a big butt plug on the cover of that magazine. That would be a fetish magazine! What was it like working with Zombie Boy for the cover shoot of Rebel Ink Magazine? He’s cool. He’s really relaxed. I thought it was really kind of fun because he entered the room almost bombarded with people who wanted to take photos with him and I had just finished driving all night and we had not slept. They got us a hotel room and we weren’t even able to use it which I felt horrible about. It was a really nice hotel room. We were just absolutely exhausted so we were just laying out on the couch. I was half asleep and I was like “Hi” and I was half asleep the whole shoot. I was crazy exhausted and falling asleep between every set that day. But Zombie Boy was really cool and chill and he sat next to us and just said “hey” and talked a little bit to his girlfriend. He puts up with a lot. No matter how many people were like “We want your picture”, he was like “sure”, no complaints. What is the proudest moment in your whole modeling career? Hmm that’s a difficult one. I kind of almost divide my career into sections. There was when I first started and I didn’t really know what I was doing and there’s when it became a fulltime thing and then in the past two years I definitely became the kind of model I wanted to be. I guess out of all of it, the turning point in my career was when I got the cover of Tattoo Review because I submitted that myself. I was submitting all of my photos myself and I was go-go-going no matter how many people were denying me or they didn’t respond.
And [Tattoo Review] responded a month later saying ‘Congratulations, not only are we going to use your photo, we’re using it for the cover and for the 150th issue’ and I was like “Whoa! Cool!” It was my first real cover and I was just proud of myself because I made it happen and they were really nice to me and sent me a bunch of free copies. I think it did help turn my career because after that people were like ‘Oh, you’re not a no-body. Okay I guess we’ll work with you’ from me having to beg, practically, to get a shoot to actually having someone pay attention. What are some exciting things that you’ll be doing in the next few months that we should keep our eyes peeled for? I should be still working on my autobiography so that’s a big thing that’s kind of related to the modeling. I am working on music as well, I do witch house music. As far as modeling I will be in Atlanta, Georgia, I’m going to DragonCon and dressing up. I have a latex Star Trek suit so I’m totally stoked about that. Sept 15th and 16th I’ll be Tulsa, Oklahoma for [the] Ink Life Tattoo Convention just to be out there because I’ve never been to Tulsa. I’ll be in LA in November. This is my first trip to LA and I didn’t want to go until I had already built myself up enough because what’s the point of going if no one wants to work with you? I want all of the big names to actually like my work and work with me, otherwise what the hell am I doing there? So I’m really looking forward to going to LA. I’ll be focusing more on my fashion work, but also at the same time I’ll be knocking off my list of normal alt model stops like all the big alt model photographers because I want to bring them something different and I feel like I need them to see that I’m an alt model first and I’m going to show them what I can do with alt model/pinup.

fresh from the runway This look was inspired by similar looks from the runway this season. Smoked out deep reds and plum shadows and muted brows are some of the makeup trends you’ll be seeing this fall and winter. I wanted this look to have a little sci-fi feel to it as well.

Calling all glamour nerds! If you have a favorite anime, video game, or super natural beast; there's a color for it. Geek Chic caters to your nerdy side with their beautiful products for eyes, lips, face, and nails that are inspired by TV, film, video games, comics, and scifi. All products are vegan, gluten-free, cruelty free and all ingredients are marked clearly as to avoid allergies so it’s safe for all! I was very impressed with the five shadow shades that they sent me. Power, Wisdom, Courage from the “Dangerous To Go Alone” Zelda inspired pallet is a beautiful yellowy gold that is loaded with shimmer. Eyes of The Werewolf from the “Fangbanger’s Quartette” pallet is a great neutral color that goes on very light and can be used as a subtle high light or a base color. Do a pony smoky eye with Faithful Student from the My Little Pony inspired Pwany-Tales pallet. It’s a beautiful deep purple with a pink shimmer to it. From the “Strange Aeons” pallet, Non-Euclidean is a super shimmery black which creates sexy depth or can be used with an angled brush as an eye liner. Another color from the “Dangerous To Go Alone” pallet is Twilight Princess, a shimmery forest green. This paired with Power, Wisdom, Courage would make a beautiful fall look.
Finally a bold mineral makeup! Concrete Minerals offers a no nonsense mineral makeup that's super pigmented and packs a power punch. All of their wonderful products are free of parabens, fragrances, artificial flavors, nano-particles, Bismuth Oxychloride, talc, and other cheap fillers. Their matte and shimmer shadows are very rich in color and blend with ease making any look you can imagine possible. Their lip tints are flirty and subtle enough for every day wear. Concrete Minerals was kind enough to send me 10 shadows! All of them are beautiful, but here are my top 5 favorites. Hi-Fi is a matte hot pink. The pigments in these matte colors are crazy vivid! I’ve been using the pink on my brows since I’ve been rocking a bright magenta for a few months and I love it! I have a hard time finding oranges that I like and it’s important to find a good one because orange shadows are big this season. Some are too bright, most are too subtle, but Napalm is the perfect Halloween crimson orange! It’s bright without being too over-the-top. Be naughty with Kinky! This black and teal color with rainbow shimmer will give you that smoldering temptress look with ease. It feels so good to be bad. Hustle is a fairly deep mauve. Mauve is another runway color that we’re going to be seeing a lot of this fall so stock up! I love a good matte red shadow like Risque. There’s so much you can do with it. Try combining Risque with Bulletproof to create a super eye catching plum color. Sexy Lips Lip Tint These are Concrete Mineral’s tinted lip balms. They’re super moisturizing and have a cool minty feeling. I was a little intimidated by the intense color of the stick, but once applied you find that the colors are actually very subtle. I liked Dreamboat and Tease on me the most because one offers a nude look while the other offers a pink that matches my hair. Concrete Minerals has a wide catalog of colors and kits that you can find at concreteminerals.com Thank you Concrete for letting us play around with your creations!

If you want all that glitters, you have to get some Swagger. Each eye shadow container from Swagger Cosmetics is like a little gem exploding with twinkle and shimmer! I absolutely adored all of the colors I tried and the Golden Rose highlighter gave my cheeks a beautiful golden shimmer.
