Arrange for transport of items that require special attention. (pianos, pets, etc.) Do an inventory of your home. Dispose of things you no longer need. Donate to charity or have a yard sale. Dispose of hazardous materials. (paint, thinners, gasoline) Pack seldom used items as soon as possible. Have appliances cleaned and serviced before the move. Don’t forget to defrost the fridge and freezer. Decide where you want furnishings placed in your new home and label them accordingly. Hire a sitter for moving day. It’s going to be a hectic day. Plan on being present at the loading and unloading of your belongings. Keep a record of all moving expenses for income tax deductions (if applicable). Have your car serviced and keep emergency supplies in the trunk. Make a last check of the house - closets, basement, garage, yard - make sure nothing is left behind.
