2017 FALL EVENTS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 Great Value Wines for Fall – Red & White | 7-8:30pm $15 Are you looking to add some great new wines to your repertoire this fall that are not only delicious but easy on the pocket book? Well then you won’t want to miss out on joining us for a fun and eye-opening evening as we guide you through an exciting tasting of wines from around the world all under $30. Our team is excited to show you some of their personal hidden gems. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 Wine vs. Beer Cheese Pairing | 7-8:30pm $15 Let’s get down to the basics as we spend the evening pairing up great wines and beers with cheese to see which works best after all? This fun night will teach you the basics of how to team up classic cheese styles – old, new, goat and blue with wines and beers from around the globe. You will be your own judge and decide if you feel the cheese works better with wine, beer or a mix of both. A fabulous night for both wine, beer and cheese enthusiasts. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 Beers for Fall | 7-8:30pm $15 Each fall our beer wall fills up with an exciting selection of new beers made especially for the season and so we’ve put together a fun evening where you’ll be able to learn about and try some of our team’s favourite fall brews.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5 Wines for Thanksgiving 7-8:30pm $15 With Thanksgiving just around the corner we’ve put together a special night filled with wines that pair with the season classic dishes such as roast turkey, buttery mashed potatoes, baked ham and warm apple pie. This class will highlight some of the classic pairings we rely on and showcase some out-of-the-box pairings that are sure to wow your family and friends and have them wondering how you became such a culinary expert. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14 Cookie & Chip Pairings 7-8:30pm $15 We’re teaming up sweet and savory snack favourites – cookies and potato chips; and bringing them together into a fun grownup evening of tasty delights. You’ll discover the chemistry behind pairings as we use the flavours of sweet cookies and salty chips to show you how things can go together. You’re sure to be amazed at how wines, beers and maybe even a cocktail can take your favourite snack foods to a brand new level. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21 Spirits to Keep Your Toes Warm 7-8:30pm $15 With the last days of fall coming to a close we’ve put together a special evening that will focus on spirits that we feel are perfect for cooler weather and keeping the chill at bay. You’ll love learning all about tasty whiskies, rums, bourbons and cognacs and discovering the stories behind them and a new cocktail recipe or two.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26 Halloween Pairings | 7-8:30pm $15 It just wouldn’t be Halloween without our pairing class. Get ready for an exciting evening as we have some grownup fun pairing wines, beers and cocktails with traditional Halloween candies. You’ll love how they take treats like mini-candy bars, Rockets, red Nibs and more and then pair them up with just the right liquid potion. If you thought Halloween candy was only for kids then join us as we dispel the myth and share our very own special Witches Brew recipe with you. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3 Guess the Expensive Wine – Red & White | 7-8:30pm $15 Always a favourite event! Love a challenge or have a competitive nature? Then grab your friends and join us for a truly entertaining evening where we showcase a tasting of red and white wines from around the globe and ask you to decide which one is the most expensive. If you’re a wine enthusiast you’re going to love this eyeopening evening. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9 Battle of the Big Reds – Malbec vs. Cabernet | 7-8:30pm $15 Let the games begin! We’re taking two of our most popular red grapes and battling it out to see who will be your favourite. You’re sure to have a blast as you taste through an exciting collection of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec wines from around the world and then rate them to pick a winner. The trick will be that all the wines will be tasted blind, so you won’t know which wines are Cabernets and which are Malbecs until they are revealed at the end. This is going to be so much fun!

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 17 Cocktails for Entertaining 7-8:30pm $15 The holidays are fast approaching and we have the perfect event planned for you to help take your festive celebrations to a brand new level. At tonight’s class you’ll learn how to create a signature cocktail, the secrets of creating balance in your cocktails and some classic cocktail recipes that will ensure that you’re always the “host-with-the-most” at all of your gatherings. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24 Ports, Sherries and other drinks for Fire | 7-8:30pm $15 There’s nothing better on a cool evening than sitting by a toasty fire and enjoying a glass of your favourite after-dinner drink. If you’ve found yourself thinking that it might just be time to explore some new options to enjoy then this night is for you. Our team is excited to lead you through a tasting of ports, sherries and a few other treats they have up their sleeves that are sure to lead you to your new favourite drink by the fire. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1 Sparkling Wines | 7-8:30pm $15 Prosecco, Cava, Cremant, and Champagne - what’s the difference between these different wines and what do all the words on their labels mean? Get ready to dive into the world of bubbles and leave this class with a better understanding of the different styles, flavours and sweetness levels that await you in the sparkling wine aisle.
Trusted Expert Pairings
ALSATIAN APPLE CAKE INGREDIENTS: • 125 g or 1/2 cup butter • 150 g or ¾ cup sugar • 3 eggs • A few drops of lemon juice • 200 g or 1 cup plain flour

2 tsp baking powder 3 tbsp milk 4 or 5 medium apples Pinch of salt
DIRECTIONS: 1. Whip the butter and sugar together in a processor for a minute, then add the eggs, one by one, along with the flour, salt, baking powder and lemon juice. If preferred, beat the butter and sugar together with a wooden spoon, then incorporate the other ingredients and continue beating until a smooth.
2.Line a tart or cake tin with greaseproof paper and pour/spoon the batter in. Peel and core the apples and cut into thin wedges. Position the wedges in the batter pushing them in so that just the thick edge of each apple slice is left visible. Continue until the batter is completely covered with apple slices. Bake at 180°C or 350 F for 35 mins. The cake is ready when golden and a skewer inserted into the cake comes out clean.
3. Leave to cool, then turn out onto a cooling rack before putting on a plate and sifting icing sugar over the top. It could also be served with a spoonful of cream or crème fraîche for dessert. SUGGESTED PAIRING: St. Urbans HOF Estate Riesling St. Urbans HOF Estate Riesling
