Geography This term, our whole topic is based around the Rainforest, in particular we will be focusing on impacts to the Environment. We will begin the topic by focusing on local geography and the wildlife we have in the Rotherham area. We will then move on to investigate climate zones, deforestation and thet layers of the rainforest. Physical Education Children will access both outdoor and indoor sports with a focus on teamwork. PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) This term, we will begin to focus on rules and expectations at the start of the new school year. We will then explore other important areas such as E-safety and friendships.

Year 3 Autumn Term Plan Mission Statement Herringthorpe Junior School ‘Working in partnership to engage hearts and minds in the joy of learning.’ Dear Parents/ Carers, The Autumn term in Y3 will be full of brand new exciting opportunities. As well as introducing our new topic: The Rainforest,.We will focus on new class texts such as ‘The Great Kapok Tree’’ and ‘The Jungle Book’ and we will explore this topic through art, geography, DT and French. Towards the end of this term, you will receive an interim report which will provide details of your child’s self assessment, dojos and attendance. We are also looking forward to getting to know you all at your child’s first parents evening in Y3. We are really looking forward to the Autumn Term!

Literacy Lots of our writing will be based on our class texts and we will be developing our skills in order to write letters, instructions, and setting descriptions. Literacy will also be related to other areas of the curriculum such as science, we will be writing a scientific explanation text. Numeracy

ICT/ Computing In ICT, we will be developing our skills in computing using programmes such as ‘Book Creator’ and ‘Purple Mash’ to create emails. We will also be using the internet safely for lots of our geographical research. Then using iPads and other technology, the children will be using different apps such as SUMDOG and TTrockstars to support them with their daily learning. Design Technology/ Art

This term, we will start to introduce key methods which will support your child throughout their time at Herringthorpe Juniors such as; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also be exploring other areas such as measures, statistics and fractions, which link to our topic of the rainforest.

In art, we will be learning new skills such as sewing, weaving and many other exciting materials. This term we will also be looking into the artist called Andy Goldsworthy where we will recreate some of the art.

Science

Music

Our science topic will be focused mainly on plants. Using investigations and hands on activities, we want to find out and investigate how plants grow and more importantly what they need to grow.

During the Autumn Term, we are looking forward to developing our skills in playing a new instrument, the Ukulele. We will also be showing off our talent during the musical recital that is happening this term.

Nemesis Project

RE

This term the Y3’s will be taking part in their very own ‘real life’ style project where we try to fix an issue. As we are focusing on the rainforest we are hoping to support a current issue in this area such as deforestation or forest fires.

Our studies in Religious Education will be based around the Hinduism faith this term.
