Dear Parent/Carer Mrs. Hilary Ford On Wednesday, 23rd January, 2019 we welcomed into school HM LordLieutenant of South Yorkshire, Andrew J. Coombe to award The British Empire Medal. The Medal was awarded to Hilary Ford, a very special lady who had supported and encouraged many children to read at Herringthorpe Junior School. The British Empire Medal is a British medal awarded for meritorious civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown. This was an excellent experience for the children who also were given the opportunity to ask the LordLieutenant some questions. Attendance Children should not be kept off school unnecessarily. If your child is a little ‘under the weather’ you do not need to keep them off school. Often we find that as soon as they get into school and are busy in their day they perk up and are fine.
NEMESIS project It has been a break through moment for the children in Y4 as they have worked alongside 1 local and 1 international ‘change-maker of tomorrow’. The children have been putting their ideas into actions by using up-cycled materials to create a bag for life to help protect our world from being strangled by disposable plastic bags. They have also had an insight into how denim jeans can be used as insulation for houses. The children had the opportunity to see and feel each stage of this process. .
NSPCC It has been a very quiet morning today due to our sponsored silence. Thank you for your support with our fundraising for the NSPCC. A reminder – can all sponsor forms and monies be returned to school on Monday for our big count. Thank you.
Staying safe online Currently we are having a lot of issues with inappropriate behaviour by children online - this is mostly at home however the issues are being brought into school. There appears to be a lot of misuse happening on playstations and Xbox. Can I please urge you to make sure that you are monitoring what your child is doing whilst playing on these devices. We will be addressing some of the issues brought to our attention next week during our E Safety week. We will discuss and remind the children how to keep themselves safe and what appropriate use looks like. Some information for parents and carers will be sent home next week to help support and aid discussion around this topic at home. Thank you for your support. Mrs. Adams – Head of School
