Temperature

Y3 have been exploring how to read degrees on the thermometer this week. They looked carefully at the scale and were able to explain how they arrived at their answer.

Science Ambassadors take over assembly

Our science ambassadors have delivered their very own presentation about our scientists of the term: Isaac Newton. The children demonstrated excellent communication skills and a great deal of confidence while sharing key facts and details about this very famous scientist.

Dragon eyes

As Y5 work towards their quest to build upon their artistic skills, they have begun to explore textures and how this can be achieved across many different media. Using collage, weaving and sewing, the y5 children have created some fantastic learning outcomes.

Free verse poetry

Year 4 we have looked at different types of poetry leading to writing a free verse poem. The children used their critical and creative skills to write some fantastic poems about the plague.

‘Allyship’ with RUFC

Y6 had the privilege of talking with Mark (Rotherham United football coach) about the issues the club faces with racism. As their NEMESIS project aims to tackle racism in our local community, they discussed the differences between non-racist and anti-racist and considered what they could do as a school to develop equality and support the ‘Allyship’ work. The children were inspired by the workshop and are looking forward to making a difference for their future.

Every Kid Healthy Week

On 26th April, children across school participated in ‘Every Kid Healthy Week.’ Each day, we completed activities which promoted health and wellbeing. We completed mindfulness yoga, explored healthy diets and participated in fitness challenges.

We would also like to say a huge congratulations to Miss Stanton who got married at the weekend. Her married name is Mrs Grayson. HERRINGTHORPE JUNIOR SCHOOL, CHATTERTON DRIVE, ROTHERHAM. S65 2JW.

Notices:

Face coverings

Face coverings must be worn on the school grounds please unless an exemption form/card has been seen by a member of staff.

Internet Safety

We continue to have reports of instances of inappropriate use on devices. Please monitor what your child is doing when they are on their phone, laptop, iPad etc. School cannot be responsible for dealing with issues that are happening at home. We are working hard to educate the children on safe internet use - this theme spans the breadth of our curriculum. If you would like advice or some resources to help you support your child to use technology appropriately and keep them safe this is a great website: https://www.net-aware.org.uk/. We have lots of resources also available on our school website.

Beat the Street

Has anyone found one of the mystery boxes yet and got some bonus points? Keep up the good work everyone we are now 16th on the leaderboard! Let’s try to get back into the Top 10! Keep moving and collecting those points! Remember, points mean prizes! Take lots of photos of you out and about with the Beat Boxes and send them to your class teacher! Between Friday 30th April – Wednesday 26th May 2021 We are asking our Willow Tree families to add their spare change to a jar to raise funds for the LEAF Centre.

Symptoms *High temperature *Persistent new cough *Loss of taste and/or smell If you or your child have any or all of these symptoms you must isolate and call 111 for advice as you may need a test. Call 119 for a test or order online. Inform school if your child is being tested.

Lateral Flow home testing kits are now available for families to test at home. These can be collected from Herringthorpe Stadium Testing Site between 1.30pm and 7pm each day. If you get a positive test from this you must then book a PCR test to confirm the result. Please inform school as you will need to isolate. We would encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to help protect our school community. All current measures in school will remain the same. You will be informed if changes are made. Please remember: * Face coverings * One parent drop off/pick up * Maintain social distancing You risk not being allowed on site if you choose not to follow these measures.
