ACC/AHA Release New Guidelines Confirms the True Diet Program for Weight Loss The True Diet Program: http://www.truemd.com/true-diet/ The American Heart Association (AHA) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC) recently released new guidelines on the management of overweight and obesity in adults. These guidelines very closely parallel the program The True Diet (TTD), created by Dr. Robert True. Here are some of the highlights of these ACC/AHA guidelines.

Identify adults who may be at elevated risks of developing cardiovascular disease. TTD uses the recommended current cutpoints for overweight (BMI >25.0–29.9kg/m2) and obesity (BMI ≥30kg/m2) to identify these adults. If they have increased risk of CVD, they thus may be at elevated risk of mortality from all causes. We encourage participation in our program to these individuals.

Counsel overweight and obese adults with CV risk factors. We check every diet patient’s blood pressure for possible high blood pressure and recommend treatment as needed. We check their lipid profile to see if they are developing hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, and hyperglycemia. If present, we initiate recommended lifestyle changes that produce marked to modest results of

sustained weight loss which results in clinically meaningful health benefits. We can also help treat these conditions with medications if desired.

Prescribe a calorie-restricted diet, for obese and overweight individuals. Our program consists of a special very low calorie diet (VLCD) and multiple studies have shown that these types of diets work to get the excess pounds off. However, we add other concepts and medications which force the body to metabolize the fats and potentially help give you energy and decrease your appetite. Thus, patients can tolerate a VLCD very well

Advise overweight and obese individuals to participate for ≥6 months in a comprehensive lifestyle program that assists in adhering to a lower calorie diet and in increasing physical activity. Our program is set up in stages of 3 month cycles and has been proven to work to help reduce eight while maintaining proper health.

Prescribe on site comprehensive weight loss interventions. Our program requires patients to meet with our experienced weight-loss nurses to provide individual sessions for intensive lifestyle interventions (ILI) which have been proven to result in long term weight loss. We start with the HCG True Diet for those who want to lose more than 20 pounds, follow with the True Trim for Life program to lose less than 20 pounds, then maintain the weight loss with our Maintenance program.

For weight loss maintenance, prescribe face-to-face or telephone-delivered weight loss maintenance programs that provide regular contact. We offer a maintenance program that keeps weight loss “top of the mind”, creates accountability, and helps patients feel good with energy. We do this with regular visits to our facility for LipoShots. LipoShots are a combination of amino acids and vitamins which force the body to metabolize fat, releasing calories into the body and boosting energy. Most patients love these and return regularly for them because they help their fatigue. The added benefit is that they maintain their weight lost an many lose even more weight over time.

Encourage participation in high levels of physical activity, monitor body weight regularly, and recommend consumption of a reduced-calorie diet. TTD does all these concepts during our program. We recommend easy exercise programs that anyone can do, such as the PACE program, that can work if done properly for just 12 minutes a day. We teach our patients to eat the correct healthy diet with low carbs so they can not only lose the weight but keep it off long term.

The True Diet is given an A-plus plus for fulfilling all of these recommendations recently set forth by the ACC and AHA. We have been pioneers in this field and not only provide the above requirements by these organizations, but have also added multiple other concepts that help people lose weight and, in turn, decrease their risk of CVD.
