This installation guide walks you through the process of installing a new car stereo. Read over these guidelines before beginning the installation in order to give yourself an idea of what to expect.
Installing a car radio receiver in your vehicle on your own can save you a significant amount of money in labor and installation costs. Whether it is done to improve the acoustic environment of your vehicle or to just replace an old system, installing a car stereo receiver can be a rewarding experience. While it may seem a difficult task to perform, it is actually quite simple if following the proper instructions.
Disconnect the negative cable from your car's battery. This is an important step to remember, as failing to do so can result in serious injury while you are connecting and disconnecting cables. Take off the dash board cover using a screwdriver and pull the receiver out slightly to reveal the wiring. There should be three wires present: a power wire, an antenna cord and the main receiver's wiring harness. Disconnect all three sets from the receiver and remove the receiver from the dashboard.
Install the wiring harness for the new receiver. The wiring harness makes the connection from your car's speakers to the receiver, and allows you to connect all of your speakers with one wiring connection. Attach the speaker wire from each of the car's speakers to the harness by twisting the ends of the wire into the marked spot for each on the harness.
If the original stereo was bolted into the dash, you might need to remove the mounting brackets from the sides of it and attach them to the sides of your new stereo. More likely, you will need a mounting kit (which may include a trim ring, a dash insert, brackets, a faceplate, and/or a metal mounting sleeve) to install the stereo. The stereo dash kits available at car-hifi-radio-adapter.eu are either Single-DIN or Double-DIN devices.
Unwrap your new receiver from the packaging and bring it as close to the dashboard as possible. Plug the wiring harness into the back of the receiver, making sure that the wires are secure before moving
on. Connect the power cord and the antenna cable--they should easily plug right into the back of the receiver.
Slide the receiver into the opening on the dashboard. Before you reconnect the screws to the dashboard, reconnect the negative cable to your car's battery. Turn the car on and make sure everything works and that each of the speakers is providing sound. Once you have seen everything work properly, secure the stereo in place with your screwdriver and reattach the outer portion of the dashboard.
