INTRODUCTION | 4
A LANDMARK Cristo Redentor is a landmark in the landscape of Rio de Janeiro and one of the most attractive points of the city. It can be seen along Rua São Clemente, which aligns with the monument. The project seeks to privilege this milestone in two ways: 1. directing the user’s gaze to the monument in the collective areas, from the line that connects Christ to the terrain; 2. retreating the implantation, creating a void that moves away from the visual barriers of the immediate corners.

THE WORK RELATIONS The contemporary world doesn’t just expect functional workspaces. It demands, more and more, flexibility in the environments, as well as new possibilities of hierarchical organization of work teams. Understanding the varieties of the new market demands, such as the emergence of numerous start-ups and new technologies, we propose non-homogenized spaces that can be reorganized and adapted to the requirements of the most

varied forms of production. Starting with the scale of the environments, the project is organized in such a way as to place face to face, on the same level, individual offices with corporate slabs and medium-sized offices, some of them arranged on double floors. This contact is enhanced by the central voids that allow visual contact with the other offices, giving a new dynamic to the spaces. In addition, the collective canopies provide an occasional meeting and a mix of audiences from different work environments during break and rest hours.

THE STRUCTURING VOID The central atriums are built in such a way as to guarantee the capture of natural ventilation and its distribution throughout the building. They facilitate city views and visual contact between the floors, in addition to promoting the organization of the program.

A COMMERCIAL HUB The Botafogo neighborhood is full of services, shops and street vendors, generating a large flow of pedestrians on its sidewalks. The implantation of the building recognizes and donates space for the development of this flow.
The gallery on its first two floors, of a public nature, uses this potential to activate the project, including it in the Gastronomic Pole of Botafogo and making it a powerful commercially attractive space.

HOW CAN A SPACE DILUTE LIMITS AND ALLOW SPONTANEOUS CONSUMPTION? 1. The space should allow the occupation of different social groups. 2. Provide dialogues between different contexts. 3. Stimulate the consumption of culture
From the analysis of the surroundings, a main question arises. Their responses result in direct design actions, taking the project beyond a functional positioning. The
land in question is located in a border area, culturally marked by its contrasts and possibilities for expansion.

THE OUTSIDE STAGE Architecture is developed here as a potentializing factor. The building is designed through the gesture of expansion, opening up to allow its appropriation, a necessary movement in a place marked by cultural manifestations. At the same time, it works as a thinner of the limits between the ridiculousness of cultural spaces and as spontaneous cultural production. Its ground floor makes the sidewalk bleachers, as well as its facades become screens for the city.

THE INSIDE STAGE An internal atrium makes the exhibition halls visible to pedestrians, generating, at the same time, an appreciation space for occupations on the ground floor. The rooms are thought of as flexible spaces in order to adapt to the installations of the various local artists. Among them, there is also a public circulation for access to the terrace, bringing the space of the street into itself.

Throughout its history, the territory of Maré has been affected by major urban infrastructure projects that were responsible for the production of material and immaterial barriers. These barriers caused the disintegration of the set of favelas with the surrounding neighborhoods and the strangulation of their urban fabric. Next, two border conditions are identified in the region: Avenida Brasil - delimits the Maré complex in relation to the surrounding neighborhoods - and an internal boundary that is established at the meeting between two types of fabric - one industrial and not very dense and the other dense and residential. The immediate surroundings of Av. O Brasil is occupied by industrial blocks, with the presence of large warehouses. This put pressure on the first communities in Maré to build their houses, on stilts, towards Guanabara Bay, separating them from their main access, which is Av. Brasil. These two boundary conditions exemplify urban planning that is not oriented towards the resident population and reinforce the marginal condition to which the territory is subject. The most damaging consequences of this occupation process were the sectorization of land uses, the absence of free public areas within the complex, due to the strangulation of the fabric, the difficulty of access to the main means of transport and the loss of contact with water. . Taking this into account, the project is guided by strategies that aim to blur the condition of the border, reconciling its contrasts and creating continuities for the pedestrian. These strategies are: the construction of crossing equipment at specific points on Avenida Brasil; the re-appropriation of subdivisions and underutilized warehouses for public and residential equipment and the opening of new open spaces where the cultural activities that currently occupy the streets and blocks of the complex can converge.

BRASIL | 24 The edge of Avenida Brasil receives three programmatic walkways - cultural, nutritional (public restaurant) and educational (public library) - accessed through large, green and safe public spaces. The Library walkway also articulates two BRT stations: the TransBrasil line, already in place, and the TransCarioca line, proposed by the project. In addition, two underground crossings are created that allow a quick return through the territory

of Maré and Bonsucesso, connecting the two neighborhoods. For urban solutions, sidewalks are reordered and bus stops are created for safer access to the bus transport system. Public spaces are also proposed at each access to the walkways, generating continuity towards the internal fabric of the Maré complex.

The internal frontier of contrasting urban fabric and land use expands with the reappropriation and demolition of underutilized industrial warehouses to create a permeable green area to establish a new centrality for cultural and social activities, which currently occupy the streets and blocks of the complex , can converge. The proposed uses are designed to create a cyclical
movement of production, consumption, waste management and recycling, in order to generate more job possibilities. The new open area receives a community garden, a public market and a recycling cooperative. In addition to the collective use proposed for the park, the presence of several warehouses mapped in the territory allows a glimpse of new typologies for the housing issue, also due

to the reappropriation of these buildings. In addition, the current urban fabric is maintained and the changes are focused to allow the shared use of street space, normally appropriate by residents. For that, it is proposed to level the street, giving priority to the bicycle and the motorcycle. Due to its varied dimensions, many streets cannot be accessed by regular public

services, such as garbage collection and mail. As a way to reconcile this barrier, we propose the fragmentation of these services with a motorcycle cart that allows them to penetrate the narrowest streets so that the garbage and the post office can work.

The project bets on casuality based on the concept of an open kitchen. Opting for a l i tt l e e x p r e s s i v e m a t e r i a l i t y , the agents acting here are the users themselves, induced to the appropriation of space. The environments are devel-
oped in such a way as to provide different forms of uses and encounters. This versatility is achieved through a simple set of rectangular shapes that configure closely connected environments.

Parque das Missões community, Duque de Caxias, emerged. The objective is to supply the need for a leisure area to practice light sports for the children and the elderly in the region. Attached to the project is the recently completed community garden.
Tipe: RESIDENTIAL Location: DUQUE DE CAXIAS, RJ Responsibilities: EXECUTION, LOGISTICS AND MAPPING + Manual execution throughout the construction phase. + Coordination of the logistics of delivery and handling of materials and equipment. + Prior mapping of the entire extension of the community in which the construction is carried out. Project description: The project consists of constructions of pre-molded wooden houses for families in emergency situations. The constructions are carried out in communities with low infrastructure and in which the NGO TETO (TECHO) operates in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It takes two to three days to complete, considering a team of ten volunteers, with entirely manual work from the foundation to the installation of the roof.

Tipe: INFRASTRUCTURAL Location: DUQUE DE CAXIAS, RJ Responsibilities: COORDINATION + Coordination of the execution team. + Technical consultancy. Project description: With a focus on food security in a region of precarious sanitation, the project brings the right to healthy food to the population of Parque das Missões, Duque de Caixias. A total of five flowerbeds and a composter currently make up the project. The exchange currency for the harvested food is a seed, generating the sustainability of the project managed entirely by the residents.
Project description: The project emerged as a priority during the health crisis, aiming to equally distribute piped water to all residents of the community of Parque das Missões, Duque de Caxias. Currently they have only a single spout and travel long distances to fill their gallons of water. At the end of the project, more than 400 people will be able to have running water in their homes.
