EDUCATION ABOUT Masters en Rehablilitacion y Restauracion de Espacios Universidad de Vic Barcelona, Spain 2013 Bachelor of Architecture Boston Architectural College Boston, MA 2012
Architecture is my passion and within I posses a strong drive to include technology in the discovery of construction problems and solutions to design. I am always searching for new and innovative ways to improve existing systems and processes. I believe that my exposure to various global cultures has given me a firm grasp on the many possibilities of solving a single problem and approaching these in several different ways. I look to continue seeking new solutions and new challenges and as a result continue growing as an architect and citizen of the world.

As consultant for infrastructure for the institute of culture and tourism for the state of Bolivar, I proposed the expansion of the state’s cultural infrastructure by replicating a prototype for a music school across the state. The next step was to find the appropriate towns where construction was to take place and to develop the proposal to petition the funds from the Colombian central government. The proposal was approved and an appropriation of approximately six million U.S. dollars was secured, enough for the construction

of 6 cultural centers. The design is the result of a competition organized by the Colombian Society of Architects for the Colombian Ministry of Culture. The winning design is by Colombian architects Espacio Colectivo, the project has been featured recently on the Online architecture magazine Archdaily. The project is currently in construction. The images below belong to the construction of the prototype by the Colombian Ministry of Culture. Images by Santiago Robayo

Adaptive Reuse of the old Intendencia Fluvial or “River port” on the banks of the Magdalena river in Barranquilla, Colombia. A two story, 7535 sq ft building, dating back to the 1910’s that served as the main boarding point for fluvial passenger transport. The structured was abandoned around 1990. The republican style facade was restored, followed by the adaptation of versatile gallery space on the main level; open workspaces as well as offices
on the second level were also introduced. All new systems were coordinated in Revit for incorporation. In order to preserve the volume and form of the roof without increasing the cost of maintenance, the structure was made out of aluminum instead of the original wood trusses. This new structure was left exposed, no dropped ceiling, as it was a substantial component of the budget, becoming a significant part of the design.

Cambridge Innovation Center 5th Floor Expansion
Cambridge innovation center takes a new approach to the idea of innovative incubation for startups. The design was conceived as a space for multiple “communities”.The concept for the layout of the spaces was developed in Rhino, then translated into Revit for the development of construction documents and coordination of the MEP systems and structural design. The team used BIM technology for interference detection among the different disciplines, as well as for smooth design adjustment. Modeling all systems in revit allowed to translate the community concept into a constructible and useful space within the constraints of the existing core and shell.

The project is about evolutionary morphology and its applicability to architecture. The concept was to redesign the library by deconstructing its programmatic function, through the lens of evolutionary biology. Concluding that libraries are obsolete as a repository of paper and need to change to accommodate for the exchange of live, interactive, person-to-person information. A system was devised for “morphing” the existing infrastructure, Boston City Hall, using elements from the its formal vocabulary, and reusing these elements overtime to create a new, enhanced, evolved spaces. The shape and location of these elements, is a direct reaction to the external forces from the community and their needs. With the use of grasshopper and paramedic design, many formal possibilities were explored, always using the same “genes” from the Boston City hall building to generate architecture.

Adaptation and addition to a warehouse space for a data-center “clean room” for cloud computing. The project demanded the construction of a small building for the mechanical cooling units, as well as the integration of power plants to fulfill the electrical requirements. The project was focused on the coordination of all the mechanical, electrical and plumbing requirements within the constraints of the small addition using Revit. The structural and electrical coordination was done layering the 2D drawings onto the Revit models. Below are images of the completed chiller building, clean room and power generators.

Studio Troika was brought into the project by WSP Flack + Kurtz. The scope was the elevator upgrade for building 10 at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The location of the mechanical room is at the dome of the building that houses one of the school’s most important libraries. The project started by translating a point cloud capture into a Revit model. The model was then delivered to WSP for the integration of the mechanical systems, allowing for the coordination of these systems to be done virtually. The result was the successful upgrade of the elevator without major construction problems, and an updated mechanical room that met all required building codes.

National Historic Landmark – Design project for the new headquarter campus for the Department of Homeland Security, featuring a mixture of adaptive reuse and new construction. Additionally the project will connect Homeland Security with an operations center as well as the new United States Coast Guard headquarters. Participation in the project was to assess and catalog existing conditions and document each building’s repair history, creating a database that linked to the electronic building model and the construction documents.

Charlottesville, VA Historic Preservation / Institutional Professional Work | Project Team Goody Clancy jean.carroon@goodyclancy.com
This comprehensive and detailed restoration returned the building to its original intent. New Cabell Hall houses the modern language departments, media studies, graduate studies, and the Dean of Arts and Sciences. The design strategy was to incorporate day lighting to the corridors for aesthetic improvements and strong connections to the exterior courtyard, which was redesigned to become a building amenity.

The Hacienda of Dreams is an academic project inspired by the architecture of Luis Barragan. For this studio the class traveled to Mexico and spent 10 days experiencing and learning the culture and visiting some of Barragan’s most emblematic buildings. The result of the studio is a lakeside hotel in Mexico, the exploration of the different hues of a single color due to the intensity and angle in which light hits an object is what led to the exploration of folding planes to create spaces that showcase this idea.
