apprenticeships What is an apprenticeship? An apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to gain a recognised qualification whilst getting paid for a job with structured training. Apprenticeships are available at different levels; Intermediate (Level 2), Advanced (Level 3) and Higher (Levels 4-7) – each with their own entry requirements. As an apprentice, you will receive a wage and you will need to work at least 30 hours per week, which can include studying at College. Every apprentice will complete a minimum of 20% ‘off the job’ training to help them gain the skills and knowledge required for their chosen occupation. Depending on your chosen apprenticeship, you may attend college via day or block release.

10

wiltshire.ac.uk

However, many apprenticeships can now be delivered entirely at your place of work. If you have not already achieved a grade 9-4 GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths, English and ICT, you may be required to undertake functional skills alongside your apprenticeship. Once you complete your apprenticeship, the next move is up to you! You can progress to the next apprenticeship level, study for additional qualifications, collect UCAS points, go on to university level qualifications or work towards a promotion with your employer.

Why should you choose an apprenticeship? ⚪ Employers recognise and value apprenticeships as they ensure that you have been trained in the skills they need ⚪ You will start earning a wage straight away as well as gaining qualifications, industry experience and professional contacts ⚪ Many of the skills you learn will be transferable to other job roles should you decide to change career ⚪ Government research suggests that advanced apprentices earn on average £100,000 more over the course of their career than their colleagues ⚪ 92% of apprentices said their career prospects had improved ⚪ On average, achieving a level 2 or level 3 apprenticeship boosts earnings by 11% and 16% respectively
