Apprenticeships are a great alternative to traditional learning, giving you the opportunity to earn while you learn, as you work alongside experienced staff members at your place of work and gain nationally recognised qualifications as you go. Many skills you learn will be transferrable to other job roles should you decide to change career direction.

Apprenticeships at all levels will consist of:

As an apprentice you will receive a payment of at least £3.50 per hour, however the average wage per week for an apprentice is around £170 per week and in some job roles around £210 per week.

Employers recognise and value apprenticeships as they show that you have been trained in the skills they need. Wiltshire College offer apprenticeships in more than 30 different occupations, including Business Administration, Construction, Hairdressing and Engineering. For the full range visit the website: http://www.wiltshire.ac.uk/study/ apprenticeships/

A knowledge qualification (often delivered through day release at College). A competence qualification (often delivered through work place assessment). In some frameworks the knowledge and competence qualifications are combined Maths, English and ICT (if applicable). Employer related skills. You many also be required to complete an End Point Assessment to prove competence. You will need to achieve all of the above to be awarded the final apprenticeship certificate.

You will need to work a minimum of 30 hours per week (this can include studying at College). You will be issued with a Contract of Employment and all other employment conditions and benefits (such as pension contributions, sick pay and holiday entitlement).

Duration of Programme: The minimum time on programme must be 12 months in order to gain the relevant skills necessary. On average, a Level 2 Intermediate and a Level 3 Advanced apprenticeship will take approximately 12 to 48 months.
