Inhabitation, interrogation & rehabilitation, 2008 Computer generated animation with sound, 4 mins 29 seconds Inhabitation, interrogation & rehabilitation is the final film of my MA project which explores the relationship between the notion of social trust and physical architectural space. The film focuses on the discussion between architectural space, the decline of trust and the reconstruction of trust. It demonstrates an unstable spatial travelling by the character whose behaviours being constantly questioned, suspected, watched and distrusted. His journey through various architectural sites of imprisonment, interrogation and rehabilitation reveals how the architecture reflects the phenomenon of marginalisation by the force of normalisation. gefei.co.uk

Sleepless Dream, 2012 Digital print ‘A dream’ defined by Bill Domhoff and Adam Schneider, is ‘a report of a memory of a cognitive experience that happens under the kinds of conditions that are most frequently produced in a state called sleep.’
the capacity to dream with it. As a result, synthetic dream technology is developed as a way to escape from a sleepless existence, exploring the desperate desires to recover an essential human experience.
Sleepless Dream explores the mechanisms of dreaming; visualising successive images, ideas, emotions, and sensations using digital technology. It shows a dystopian future in which the absence of deep sleep prevents humans achieving the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) stage of sleep, sacrificing
Sleepless Dream challenges the notion of dreaming, bringing a new way to the “royal road to the unconscious” with the use of surreal-but-real technology.

Enzyme-catalysed coloured solutions for textile colouration, 2015 The search for more efficient and environmentally friendly alternatives for the processing of textile fibres has seen an increased interest in enzymatic technologies being investigated, largely due to their elimination of adverse effects on the environment caused by conventional chemical treatments used in the textile sector. The research presented investigates the potential of enzymes as a creative tool for novel textile colouration and surface patterning. The new processes
developed suggest alternative processing solutions, ones with reduced energy consumption with lowered environmental impact. The project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AH/J002666/1) and forms part of a collaborative project between De Montfort University, Loughborough University and industry partners Camira Fabrics, Speedo and Teresa Green Design Studio.

Jumping Into A New World, 2015 Silk Dress The collection’s theme is Jumping Into A New World. The concept is to lead people to find a new side of themselves when they wear this dress. I have used photographs which I took under the sea for the print design. Diving under the sea always inspires me. I want people to have a similar experience when they wear this dress, to experience the feeling of happiness and joyfulness. In the production process I use 100% acid dye, which creates beautiful vivid colours on the silk. To make the dyes stay on the silk, I combine anti-shabby and shrink process after printing. Although the material is still fragile, I have made the printed silk high enough quality to sell in a department store. kazusatakamura.com

Up, 2015 Jo Gibbs transforms the abandoned to the sublime by etching patterns onto various different objects. Her background in textile design shines through in her work, which tackles her concerns about the lack of sustainability in the creation of new items. She explores the changing fortunes of lace as currency and its ability to express social standing by using ‘upcycling’ and
‘Netching’, a brand new method she has created, which involves transferring lace patterns onto the surfaces of overlooked items. With this process she breathes new life into objects in a completely sustainable way. Her work is aimed at people who want one-off unique items. upcycledbyjogibbs.com

What if sound was space?, 2015 SoundScope is an art installation offering a spatial journey through music. This imaginary space proposes an alternative to conventional configurations of music performances. It translates music into an immersive landscape of lights in motion. Merging sound and space, SoundScope proposes a synaesthetic experience to the audience. The image in this exhibition depicts multiple projections onto translucent material that the art installation uses alongside surround sound technologies to create an augmented
3D environment responding to music. The amplitude, frequency and duration of each note is translated into a unique pattern in motion. The sound, visual and spatial language of SoundScope is inspired by water motions, from rain to storm, agitated to calm seas ‌ This mathematical and emotional translation aims at providing the visitors with an intuitive spatial insight into music. It is set in a reflective environment enhancing the endless nature of this imaginary journey. elynelegarnisson.com

The Views of the Urban Wanderer, 2014 This project departs from the thesis that successful social spaces within a city are created through the ability to wander and encounter different moments of surprise and discovery. Through the analysis of different users and their preferences for engaging urban obstacles, a generative system was designed and used to provoke wandering in between existing destinations around the site. Using the proposed redevelopment of the Shell Centre as a starting
point, a large building mass containing residential and commercial space is carved through with circulation routes. Different viewpoints and placement of intersection points are set up to guide different types of users, allowing them to discover unfamiliar places within an intensifying space. As a result a new form of public space is formed, interlinking programs and users. dlamdesign.weebly.com

By creating a mock-up Likay stage, the audience is able to interact with the piece as the shaped lights and cast upon their

In the case of Designs On Ageing, we were tasked with designing for the growing ageing population. Today home delivery is available for almost everything, but with speed being the top priority, most couriers are paid to drop and go. There’s no time to help you with fiddly packaging, much less chat, or share a cup of tea.
Over delivery provides customers a few minutes of care and conversation, paid for by a mix of recipients, senders, and even local governments. Background-checked and working on behalf of multiple delivery services, our Over deliverers are friendly and familiar, offering help with simple tasks like unpacking heavy boxes or figuring out how a new toaster works. Over time, they can look out for signs of a change in health or capability and suggest other services, so you can maintain your independence.
Holiday Inn Express guest experience design, 2014 In 2014, Intercontinental Hotel Group asked us to revamp its Holiday Inn Express brand in Europe – everything from public spaces, to food and beverage, digital and guest room interiors. In our research, we learned that people staying in limited service hotels are value-conscious and independent but expected more out of the hotel than just a place to rest their head. We created a series of principles that informed every part of the hotel experience. These led to ideas like a to-go breakfast with a more focused menu selection, a continental-style bar in the lobby for a quick perches, a bed with power outlets and a headboard
to support working on a laptop and a smart TV to allow guests to stream their own media – all intended to help guests maintain the flow of their stay. To test our principles, we built a fullsized prototype of the new Holiday Inn Express experience using foamcore and IKEA furniture. Over the course of several weeks, we showed guests and hotel staff through the experience, building and iterating our design with them. This led us to a blueprint for the hotel design which offered a simple, efficient and unfussy experience for the smart traveller. dave-russell.co.uk

Enter Void, 2014 This light box is part of the project Enter Void produced for Baranowska’s graduation show in 2014. Enter Void engages with a personal history of an unreturned library book, Sämtliche Erzählungen by Franz Kafka. A narrative unfolds that is ‘directed’ and ‘animated’ by Baranowska to capture a moment where the private and social overlap. The book was originally taken out of a library in Berlin in 2002; however, when Baronowska tried to return the book in 2005 she found that all traces of the library had been obliterated by a shopping centre. While this project concentrates on ‘returning’ the book it simultaneously ‘unwraps’ a story of its past events. Enter Void explores different ways in which we perceive past time frames and distant experiences, including history, by ‘digesting’ and superimposing these onto the real world, and the present. ambaranowska.com

Constructed, 2015 Constructed is the work of an Artist Collective who’s intention was to develop the film that straddles the boundaries between physical and virtual environments. Fine Artist Luke M. Walker’s paintings are an amalgamation of invention and observation; how a cityscape might be constructed through a series of frames of the sky, how buildings meet, break and contain it. They explore processes of rhythm, composition and transience. The paintings were the scanned as a starting point for the film. Reuben Nanda and Agata Lis are both Artists and Film makers who worked on the translation of the paintings from the analogue to a digital realm to allow the processes of change to be articulated in other, more immediate ways. Musician, Matthew Hardwidge composed and played all the instruments in the accompanying original score. Paintings: Acrylic paint on Canvas, scanned with photoshop. Film: Adobe After Effects. The Animistic Side of Inhabitation, 2014 In her conversation with Janice West, reported in The Uncanny Room, Professor Caroline Evans emphasises her idea about houses (and therefore objects) having a peculiar grain or patina. A house treasures a very strong resonance, a sense of history and the life that people had led in it. Each house generates its own unique situation. ‘To dwell means to leave traces. In the interior, these are accentuated. [...] The traces of the inhabitant are
imprinted in it.’ The Animistic Side of Inhabitation investigates this particular value of a house, it aims to open up to the public this idea of places and objects having a life. Do they live a life of servitude merely dedicated to the satisfaction of human needs and desires, or do we in some sense serve them while leading our own lives? eleonorapolottignutti.com

Mannequin, 2015 This project is meant to challenge the status of makers. It is also meant to challenge designers’ acceptance of tools without questioning the tool’s efficiency or modern relevance. Why is weave subservient to fashion? Why do fashion designers always take the fabric from weavers and cut into it? Why is design separate within itself? Why can’t garments be woven the same way they can be knitted? Mannequin loom is a tool that allows materials to be directly woven onto a form creating a seamless 3-dimensional woven structure whilst simultaneously making a garment. This process leaves behind no waste. The mannequin can be taken apart to store, and would require
minimal packaging for shipping. The form is taken from a 3-D scan of a male mannequin. After designing the structure it was laser cut from wood. The material used to weave directly onto the mannequin loom is an engineered tape yarn that was constructed with CAD software and then laser cut. Not only does this method reduce waste, it also eliminates steps from the supply chain, for example, the sewing process is eliminated. This would also reduce the carbon footprint (garments do not have to be shipped to multiple factories etc). jacquielefferts.weebly.com
