Come along to the City Museum and Westgate and discover Winchester’s fascinating history from its prehistoric past to the present day. Find out the stories behind the museums’ collections of amazing objects. Our exciting displays are all about learning and having fun at the same time. Our City Space gallery in the Discovery Centre shows an exciting programme of

Droxford Country Fair and D-Day Commemoration Winchester Museums will be attending this popular event, taking artefacts and activities out to people in the district. This year the fair commemorates the village’s links to D-Day with displays, re-enactments, competitions, sideshows and a walking trail. Admission charge to show will apply.

Live Work Play: recent work by Hampshire architects
Westgate
A new exhibition of architecture and urban design, staged by RIBA Hampshire, showcasing the rich work of Hampshirebased architects. The exhibition features a mix of elegant and ingenious designs, showing how local architectural practices have responded to the challenge of providing 21st century spaces in which to live, work and play.

of July and August, Monday to Friday 10am – 5pm, in addition to its usual weekend opening hours. This is a great opportunity to visit this fascinating historic monument and museum. Free admission.

History through the Ages Winchester Museums will be taking activities and artefacts out into the Winchester District, attending this multi-period living history event which features the Battle of Cheriton re-created by the Sealed Knot. Admission charge to event.

Putting on a Show This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Theatre Royal, Winchester, and to mark this momentous event we are joining in the party with an exhibition that takes visitors behind the scenes. Experience the magic of theatre from props to makeup, special effects to costume design; curtain–up to curtaincall, there may even be the odd ghost waiting in the wings!
This free family friendly exhibition will have plenty of fun things to try on, colour in, touch and even smell. Free admission.

World War One Day

St George and the Dragon make and take Make your own St George and the Dragon figures from a medieval ‘Mummers’ play, follow the original script or make up you own. Will St George triumph or will the dragon live to fight another day? It’s up to you!
Drop in to the Discovery Centre and get up close and personal with a rare survivor from the First World War; a ‘J’ type Thornycroft lorry first delivered to the War Office on 28 March 1916. Members of the Great War Society will be on hand with a Living History display, sharing their knowledge of the period. On the day, children can make their own First World War postcard to take away at our free drop-in activity, all materials provided. Age 6+. Parental supervision is required at this event.

Winchester Art Club Annual Exhibition The work on display includes sculptures, watercolours, drawings, oil paintings and sketchbooks, offering a stunning and eclectic exhibition with something for everyone. Whether you come to admire the artwork or to buy a work to hang on your own wall you won’t be disappointed. Free admission.

Soldiers’ Journey Exhibition portraying Hampshire’s contribution to the First World War running across ten venues throughout the County. Soldiers’ Journey tells the story of the impact Hampshire had on the war, and the impact the war had on Hampshire. Look out for related events and activities. www.bigtheme.org.uk. Free admission.
