A Storysack (Pakenham literacy story sack) is a library bag containing a picture book with supporting materials to stimulate reading activities. To bring the book to life, soft toys of the main character, props relating to items in the story, a non-fiction book related to the story, a CD and a language game based on the story are included. A guide booklet and tip sheet are included, suggesting ways to develop listening, reading, & writing skills using the contents of the Storysack.*

Cardinia Story Activity Boxes and Story Sacks


What is a Story Activity Box? Our Story Activity Boxes (Pakenham literacy box) have all the resources and information required to make reading fun.

 Australian Animals #1 (Wombat Stew by Marcia K Vaughan)

 Australian Animals #2 (Owl babies by Martin Waddell)

Each box contains  Books to read and enjoy  Supporting materials eg: puppets or puzzles  Reading tips for parents  Music CDs and musical instruments to encourage dance and movement

 Australian Animals #3

Each box  Supports the Victorian Early Years Learning & Development Framework  Has been developed to cater to the needs of 4-6 year olds; younger children will require stricter supervision

 Construction

Borrowing is FREE and available to those working in Cardinia Shire with children aged 0-8yrs. (Includes family day carers and early years professionals)

 Families

REGISTRATION and Casey-Cardinia LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP is essential before borrowing a Story Activity Box or Story Sack. Registration forms can be obtained by contacting Library has Legs at Pakenham Library. Only two resources may be borrowed at the same time. Cardinia Story Activity Boxes are available for loan from Pakenham, Emerald & Cardinia Mobile Libraries for a four week period, and may be placed ‘on hold’ or renewed once, if not on hold. Late returns will incur the standard late fee of 10 cents per box or sack per day overdue. Any lost or damaged items need to be paid for.
